Uses for fate points in Arcanum

OK, serious thread time. I've never used fate points before but I've found out that you can use a fate point to pickpocket sammy for a hand cannon in tarant.

I think my next character may be a gunslinger.

What other neat stuff can you do with them?

I don't think I've ever used them.

I guess you can use them for fun or something. Or maybe just collect them so you can load up a savegame in front of your friends and blind them with your fate point awesomesaucyness or something. I don't really know. Do people still play Arcanum? Isn't that almost like still playing Quake? Don't people move on? What is going on? Why didn't you do this stuff when it was relevant, baronjohn?

4/10 because it was in the form of a reply instead of a new thread (otherwise it would have been a 1/10).

Typical 2010er. You talk big but when it's time to advance the PC Gaming Master Race you bring out the condoms.

You can steal peoples clothes with them. Such seems impossible otherwise, even a master thief with more than max agility against the lightest clothes always fails.

donno if the point of this thread is serious or not but I have found a few legitimate uses for them.

use it to critical succeed at convincing Lukan to gtfo the way to get over the bridge (this one is theoretical, I can't remember if you can even earn a fate point by this time)

use it to pick the lock of the safe that otherwise requires the heart-stone key to open (in Tarant museum)

used it once out of desperation when caught in some terrible long dungeon crawl with too many enemies and no healing items left to heal up (melee technofuck, no magic)

might be worth it to risk on gambling for big stuff too

I steal that sword of the chick who is the daughter of this knight who lives in that town that is shit and use it to terribly unbalance the game and cut a swath of destruction through the entire game with the fate points.

You are horse... Drunken horse is cute, when he has long teeth, is drinking blood from others, and is climbing on buildings nearby.

Well, fuck. I used them to score critical hits only.. :?

These fate points were the only part of game not explained well enough. On the side note, I have always played the pro-science freak (I just like those spider bots) and haven't found the dungeons hard at all (not with me being a walking "bullet factory"). As for Lukan & group, I would use the three nades you find to stun and burn them all. shoot from a distance. It would end up being Benny Hillsque fights with only me and one of his guards alive.. running all over the place stopping every now and then to take few shots at him. :M

I will now have to ditch the current game and restart so that I can use the fate points properly this time.
:x

Pickpocketing and lockpicking (guess persuading too, but never done that iirc) stuff without having the skill seems like the best use by far. Getting hand cannon or looking glass rifle right off the bat after getting out of Shrouded Hills makes gunman much more on par with magic and melee.

I know it is a bit offtopic, but is there any way of editing the damage and range of firearms? I believe the only way of making a firearms specialist not frustrating is to balance ranged weapons on my own. I'd see if I could do a cheap and quick rebalance and specially make close quarters firearms like the shotgun useful for a change.

Maybe I could just edit custom schematics with weapons that at least make firearms slightly better than bows and boomerangs. There is a tutorial in GameFags for that.
