EDIT: I should have thought of this before. To help put you in the mood, some Ultima tunes.

http://www.moongates.com/Music.asp?midi=U7-Stones

http://www.joxter.net/stones/ultima9stones.mp3

Long ago ran the sun on a folk who had a dream
And the heart and the will and the power:
They moved the earth; they carved the stone; moulded hill and channeled stream
That we might stand on the wide plains of Wiltshire

Now men asked who they were, how they built and wonder why
That they wrought standing stones of such size
What was done 'neath our shade? What was pray'ed 'neath our skies
As we stood on the wyrd plains of Wiltshire

Oh what secrets we could tell if you'd listen and be still
Rid the stink and the noise from our skirts
But you haven't got the clue and perhaps you never will
Mute we stand on the cold plains of Wiltshire

Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away
And we say of our folk, "they are here!"
That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why
Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire

http://www.joxter.net/stones/stonesacoustic.mp3

Yes, I know overkill on the Stones.

=================================================================================

[Startup screen loads with original Ultima music. Then segues into a short chase by the Shadowlords with Benny Hill theme music.]

[Ahh, the classic midi tunes from Ultima play in the background.]

[Mondain, Minax, and Exodus have somehow come to Earth and are on Jerry Springer.]

[The phone rings and The Gypsy is on the other end. She pleads for the Avatar's help.]

[Of course the Avatar gladly offers his assistance and answers her questions.]

[The Avatar grabs his shotgun and The Gypsy transports him to Britannia.]

Hail Lord British, my old friend!

[Curses! Oldschool copy protection!]

[Whew!]

[Lord British has locked himself in his room and will not leave. He explains that Mondain, Minax, and Exodus have corrupted the virtues. Mondain has taken over the Lycaeum. Minax is running Empath Abbey. Exodus has taken over Serpent's Hold. LB tasks the Avatar with setting the world right once more.]

[LB graciously offered the Avatar his supplies.]

[I found a tome of knowledge!]

[And I am restored to my former glory!]

[The guards are nicer than I remember.]

[LB has been renovating.]

[A Seer, perhaps he can offer assistance.]

[A Hawkwind tune plays in the background. Time to seek out an old friend.]

[The infirmary. Wonder if anyone I know is here.]

[I feel his pain.]

[Off to find my good friend Iolo in Britain.]

[It was gracious of LB to provide me with a map and sextant.]

[Perhaps one of these tavern patrons can assist me.]

[Hmm, maybe she would like to “join”. Nudge-nudge, wink-wink, say no more!]

[Nice song, but not of Iolo's calibre.]

[Maybe LB is wrong about the recent changes. What could be wrong with passion?]

[Things are looking up for me.]

[Bom chicka wow wow.]

[WTF?!]

[Bitch. I never liked Katrina. I'm glad I killed her in UIX.]

Maybe some other time, Pepper. <sigh>

My old friend, Gwenno!

[Iolo is nearby it seems.]

The joy of seeing an old friend warms my heart.

[The Fitzowens are having some marital difficulty.]
I will speak to Gwenno about this.

[A corset is to blame? I must ask Iolo about this mysterious corset.]

[My first fedex.]

[Obtained corset.]

[This sigil may play an important role in my quest!]

[My path is clear. My cause is just.]

[The pieces of the puzzle start to come together.]

[Fate is kind enough to allow me to see my friends and save Britannia simultaneously.]

[Find another set of runes? FFFFUUUUUTHARK!]

[Sweet!]

[Let's see what the other options are...]

[What the hell, let's check out the Den.]

[Add “obtain swamp boots” to the to-do list.]

[Strangely familiar, yet foreign.]

[Let's check out the tavern.]

[Maybe later guys. Let's see what the Guv'na has to offer.]

I have more pressing matters to attend to, sir...

But then again. Greetings, dear lady. Will you marry me?

[Win some, lose some. No action here. Let's head to Yew quicklike via the OoC.]

[OoC FTW!]

[I am liking the new Britannia more and more.]

I will seek out this judge.

[Not bad for his first attempt.]

[Maybe one day grasshopper.]

A pleasure to see thee, Jaana!
Do you know of a sigil perchance?

[Always with the quid pro quo.]

[I always knew she wanted me.]

Please, continue.

[Good think I picked up some reagents.]

Hmm, I never really thought about it that way.

[Enzyte theme plays in the background.]

[Hells yeah!]

Of course Jaana, I am not too proud to use enhancement products.

[Golden Age porn music plays in the background. Let's get it on!]

Not again! How does she keep finding me?!

I swear on the Codex – Katrina will die by my hand!

[Perhaps this fellow has information to help me.]

[What manner of Britannian is this?]

[It is nice to have someone ask how I feel for a change.]

[Ahh, the courthouse. The judge must be in here.]

[The People's Court theme plays in the background. It looks like court is in session.]

[Well, the bailiff was friendly but not very helpful.]

[Everyone always wants something from me.]

Of course Your Honor. I will put saving the world on hold.
[I will talk to the plaintiff first.]

[Now for the defendant.]

[Now to render my verdict.]

It was a difficult decision but I rule in favor of Sir Magnum, P.I.

[One down, seven to go. Back to Britain for the mantra.]

[Ahh, Pepper knows it.]

[I should have known.]

[Another relationship saved. It's all in a day's work for Bicycle Repairman.]

IV is actually the only Ultima I played the beginning of...

Could you make the images a little smaller? Get one of those shareware auto-resize programs. It is a DosBox game. I have my resolution at 1024 wide and your screenshots stretch the screen about another half page.

The guy looking for "short round" is Indiana Jones. The little picture that comes up is actually straight out of the Atari 2600 game "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". I haven't seen that since I played it as a kid.

Hilarious game, keep going.

Yes, Dosbox has pretty nice upscaling filters.
But then you have to use a separate snapshot program because shots done within Dosbox are not upscaled/filtered.

[Moonglow.]

[Infinite Keg? Kids today have it easy. In my day, I walked 15 miles to the liquor store. Carrying the keg. Uphill both ways.]

[Now to find Mesron for the mantra.]

[Tough break.]

[I am sensing a pattern here. Onward to Skara Brae.]

Shamino, it is good to see thee!

[How will I convince him to strip?]

[Poor Shamino.]

[Wonder if I can use the Keg?]

[Huzzah!]

[Sorry to have to do that to an old friend but it is for the greater good.]

[“I'm too sexy” plays in the background.]

[You get what you pay for.]

[Ok, one last try.]

[Three strikes. On to Jhelom.]

[Fair enough.]

[Robots?]

Hail, Geoffrey!

Indeed, the best woodcraft does come from Yew.
[OoC to Yew.]

[Back to Jhelom.]

[He's asleep. Let's camp out of town as I am a cheap bastard.]

[A hostile in city limits?]

[woot. Wonder if I am equipped for Destard. Let's give it a go.]

[Knobgoblin!]

[phat lewt.]

[Related to the Chupacabra?]

[A secret door due north.]

[Ladder down.]

[Let's see what is available.]

[Pricey.]

[nasty.]

[Robots! Clips like “Stay awhile...stay forever!” play in the background.]

[More Robots!]

[12345]

[2 Beer Golems and a Hind Flayer! And a secret door due West.]

[Back in Jhelom. Another mantra obtained. Now for Trinsic.]

[AC/DC midi plays in the background.]
Dupre, old friend!

[ET music plays in the background.]

[An impossible task considering that abysmal game.]

[Truth or myth?]

I have seen some conflicting claims about it being ET specifically. I played it when it came out and if it wasn't buried, it sure should have been.

http://www.toplessrobot.com/2008/02/was_et_buried_in_a_landfill_in_new_mexico.php

http://www.auburn.edu/~clontsc/etmarch/about/

Claim: Atari buried millions of unsold "E.T." cartridges in a New Mexico desert landfill.
Status: True.
http://www.snopes.com/business/market/atari.asp

The story of the buried cartridges has become a popular urban legend, which in turn has led some people to believe that the story is not true. As recently as October 2004, the E.T. author Howard Scott Warshaw himself expressed doubts that the destruction of millions of copies of the game ever took place, citing his belief that Atari would have recycled the parts instead in order to save money.[6]

[A dungeon inside the city?]

[Of course, the metal mine.]

[No Daemon anywhere. Back to Dupre. Need to ask him about the mantra.]

[Let's OoC to Vesper. I have a hunch that a “Daemon” might be there.]

[Vesper.]

[“Daemon”]

[He is hiding something.]

[Does he fear the shrine?]

[Too heavy to carry. OoC to Sacrifice.]

[Back to Vesper.]

[We'll foot it to Minoc and kill on the way.]

[Minoc.]

[No one here. Closed at night?]

[Just what I needed.]

[Maybe he is just having a bad day.]

Ok, ok, I'm sorry.

[Stripclub sounds and music playing. Popular place.]

Julia, it is a real pleasure to see thee <snicker>.

[Conundrum.]

[Well, she is an old friend after all.]

[Guess I'll just have to force myself to watch the show and wait a while.]

If I pay for your tuition, will the pole be all you give me?

[I don't have that much gold dammit.]
Sure, baby, but I cannot afford that much at the moment.

[1,000 short. Maybe the dungeons will have that much. For now, let's OoC to New Magincia.]

[New Magincia.]

[Should I kill her now or later?]

[After cockblocking me twice, she has the gall to demand quid pro quo?]

[meh]

There is wisdom in this, Elvira.

[James is cured so he must be the one.]

[Maxtor is the worst so far.]

[He looks very familiar.]

[Back to Katrina.]

James, of course.

[What the hell? Ok, let's run through the list then.]

[Maxtor?! He was the worst.]
OK, Katrina, number 3.

[Let's dungeon dive for some coin.]

[Deceit.]

[ouch]

[woot]

[U sure gots a purty mouth.]

[Giant Leech!]

[1,558. Back to Minoc for the sigil.]

[No kiss : (]

[8/8 so let's OoC to Sacrifice and see if anything happens.]

[Let's kill stuff while I determine my next move.]

[Despise]

[Corpsers!]

[Voyeur and Daddy Longlegs!]

[Kraken!]

[Pac Man. He's hurt.]

Thank you, Pac-Man, but hero worship is enough reward for The Avatar.

[Ladder up and secret door.]

[Wrong]

[Hmmm, suspicious.]

[The olde get-the-phat-lewt-and-release-the-Daemons trap! Time to pull out Ol' Reliable.]

[Misplacer Beast!]

[Cheese Golem! Hidden switch on floor. Getting dull in my old age. Just came to me to talk to Hawkwind.]

[wutyoutalkinaboutwillis?]

[Great. Just great.]

Hawkwind, perhaps we should think more upon this course of action.

Hawkwind, I fear thou hast made a grave error.

Very well. To Minoc.

[And quite knowledgeable she was. < . < > . > ]

[Where would I find it? Let's check out the places I have not been.]

[Cove]

[Dueling Banjoes plays in the background.]

[Hunter!]

[rowr]

[Classic Rosco P. Coltrane.]

[It's been 30 years but when I saw this yellow bastard my heart skipped.]

[Honesty]

[Compassion]

[Valor]

[Justice]

[Honor]

[Sacrifice]

[More of an assman myself.]

[Humility]

[Back in Cove.]

[Mystic Staff!]

[I hear that a lot.]

[To the Isle of the Avatar!]

[uh oh]

[BEHOLD!]

[The Lycaeum]

[Unable to enter. Let's see what Hawkwind has to say regarding the pure symbol.]

[Back to The Lycaeum.]

[Meth Addicts!]

[What perchance wouldst they be growing?]

[Dorito Golem!]

[Mondain!]

[Unable to attack him. Let's check the side room for his bong.]

[Now to get the bong and OoC to Hythloth.]

[Hythloth]

[Flushed Goldfish!]

[Space Invaders!]

[ding]

[Empath Abbey]

[Safety word. Hmmm, this might be fun.]

How convenient. For I AM The Avatar!

[A rocket!]

[An imposter or a usurper! LB is back on Britannia.]

You speaketh a strange tongue, sir.

[He is clearly a madman.]

Evil empire?

Aye, tales of their destructive powers reach across many worlds.

[Very helpful folks on this planet.]

[No jester on any world can match the talent of the one and only Chuckles.]

[Back to Britannia.]

[Watch that smart mouth of yours, Beav, or I'll let Eddie have his way with you again.]

<coughcough>

[What the hell. Here goes nuthin.]

[Now to Hawkwind.]

[To Serpent's Hold.]

[Serpent's Hold]

[Sea Serpent and Kraken!]

[Daemon Guards!]

[Dragon Guard!]

[“You can't kill THE METAL
THE METAL will live on
Punk-Rock tried to kill THE METAL
But they failed, as they were smite to the ground
New-wave tried to kill THE METAL
But they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill THE METAL Hahahahahaha
They failed, as they were thrown to the ground
Aaaaaaaargh! Yaaaaooow!”]

\m/ ^^ \m/

[Back to Hawkwind for advice.]

[Paws]

[There is no such thing as a free lunch.]

[I should clear out the loot first.]

Just wanted to say: whoever uses the graphics filters in DOSBox, like our friend here, is a cocksucking graphics whore.

Just play the games the way they were meant... old games look like shit with forced antialiasing on them anyway.
