The BethBlog has released salacious details of the bad guy in Fallout 3:

“You’ll also come across the Enclave; the remains of the US government who have access to incredible technology and broadcast patriotic marching band music. Their President is voiced by Malcolm “A Clockwork Orange” McDowell. He’s a major villain.”

For those of you who don't recognise the name, it's this guy, you know, from that movie you saw that one time and damn, what was it he played again?

Are there any other famous actors in FO3? I only know about Liam Neeson and the guy above. I think Bethcrap is trying to hide the awful writting by hiring famous actors. They probably think if Liam Neeson says some crappy line it will sound better. Wouldn't it be cheeper just to hire a better writter?

Please don't give me any hope regarding this game. It'll only make it worse in the end.

Well, his portrayal of Alex in A Clockwork Orange was genius. Not that I can recall any other movie he played in...

You're probably right, but if I recall correctly Fallout 1 and 2 also featured a few 'famous' actors, like Ron Pearlman and that guy from MacGyver. I'm sure they can make a difference if the casting is right, I just wish Bethesda/the gaming press would hype more important stuff, like character development, the world, quest design, etc.

He was the baddy in that seminal piece of epoch defining cinema Star Trek Generations, wasn't he?

WHO COULD FORGET THAT?!

oh Beth, thank you, thank you for telling us who the main villain in your game is! now that you did that - you can scratch the storyline totally, as we already know everything.
also it is nice to see that Enclave survived... the fucking nuclear explosion. and now even has its own radioshow.

Great. Cartoony "Patriots is dum an bad!" villains taken directly from Fallout 2, without even the slightest attempt at establishing some sort of logical continuity to explain why they're still around.

ermmm there was no "Patriots is dum and bad!" in Fallout 2. if you remember Enclave just went mad and thought that all people from the outside world are now mutants. and so by killing them they really believed they are doing the good thing.
if you want to pour shit on Fallout 2 at least know where you should do it.

Why exactly would an organization that obviously has higher goals of domination in mind reveals itself to everyone? Every such surviving government from other nations will now be aware of the Enclave and the danger it poses.

Plus, patriotic music? WTF? I doubt any survivor gives a shit about his great America when there haven't been a country around since he was born. Every city is self governed, too. Why would anyone own allegiance to some mythical country that doesn't even exist?

I'd also like to take a moment to say that I'm looking forward to FO 3 more than Alpha "Mission Impossible" Protocol or Diablo 3.

Maybe now they changed their plans and want to rule over wastelanders instead of exterminating them?

We're only certain that Oil Rig was destroyed. Navarro could've survived and some people probably were able to evacuate Oil Rig in vertibirds before its destruction.

I thought Bethesda said that they were going to be following the original Fallout more closely than the sequel. They didn't even manage to get that one right!

I have a question. What sort of inhuman, spongefucking idiot doesn't know the name of Malcolm mcfucking McDowell? Fucking hell, the guy was in Caligula! And Lexx! He's brilliant! Awesome. I have two of my favorite actors in the game. I'm so gonna pirate this sucker!

(The last part, with the piracy, was a joke.)

(No, really.)

Christopher Walken
Yes. And he should play Iguana Bob Sr.

Piracy is not wrong because nothing physical is being taken from an inventory.

You know, despite all the abundant evidence to the contrary, that they had full access to.

I remember Fallout 2 quite well. I felt that the Enclave was a pack of cartoonish morons, and it figures that Bethesda would choose to adopt such a 2-dimensional pack of villainous imbeciles for their "take" on the series. It's trendy these days, so I'm sure it'll appeal to their target audience of mouthbreathing teenage counterculture commandos. Maybe while Bethesda's at it, they can throw in an evil corporation that kills trees and pollutes oceans for the lulz, straight out of "Captain Planet", too.

You liked the Enclave, I thought they were the nadir of FO2's writing, which wasn't all that hot to begin with. We're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one, I'm afraid.

I suppose it's possible... We'll see if Beth decides to offer an explanation in the game.

Who wants to bet the main villain's name will be something liek Weorge B. Gush?

Because you know... being anti-government is liek so cool and stuff, no doubt even more rebellous 12 year-olds will run to the stores to buy the new revolutionary experience!
