For those of you who don't follow CRPG news religiously, Elwro compiled a short piece on what to expect from 2008. As 2007 was received with less negativity than usual by the hivemind, there's reason to be (cautiously) optimistic - provided we leave The Sequel That Shall Not Be Named out of it:

With Mask of the Betrayer, Eschalon: Book One, Depths of Peril and The Witcher (among others), 2007 was a good year for cRPGs - especially if you consider the modest crop of decent titles offered in previous years and the fact that three of those games were prepared by new studios. Let's see what we can expect in 2008.

Last year was indeed the best one for rpg's in ages. Rather surprisingly so, since the good rpg's really didn't seem that interesting on paper. To me it looked like another diablo clone in the form of the witcher and an expansion to the decidedly uninspiring gameplay and story of nwn2. I was really glad to beproven wrong.

Next year again looks like there will be some at least decent offerings. A nice change from almost a decade of rpg drought. Still, I don't see anything stellar. Lets hope we'll be surprised again.

Hm, it seems 2008 will be at least a good year for indie RPGs and Mod projects. Maybe Team Gizka will even release the KotOR 2 Restoration Project. Finally.

One thread is an article comment, while the other is a news comment.

And hopefully after 6 years The Nameless Mod will be finished.
