So, yeah, it's out. Has anyone played it yet? There's much positive reactions on official CD-Project forums but I don't trust people who consider Oblivion great rpg. There's also something about great reviews but then again, reviews in magazines that claimed that Fallout was supposed to be a FPS, kekekek.
And the fact that there isn't (AFAIK) demo version doesn't speak too well either, eh?

I didin't like prologue that is supposed to be tutorial. It's too long and boring. It's just bad and uninspired. Thank god first act shows that it can be a great game, everything starting to get better. I'm impressed, especially with a storytelling and very dark atmosphere. As I'm playing, dialogs starts to get better and better and a game still suprise me. There is a large dose of dark humor, for example - when you are fucking a girl in the old mill, there is a cutscene where two guys are talking on the other side of the river. They are looking at the mill and hear some voices. One say to another " Something hounts an old mill" - "yeah, we should call the witcher" -"Where is one when he is nedded"). Biggest problem I have with this game are the loading times, thay can terribly long. An inventory can be pain in the ass too, everything is very small so you cant tell wtf is the thing you are looking at.

Overall, after dissapointing begining, it's a hell of a ride at this point. Most suprising thing is that The Witcher is not combat oriented game.Besides prologue, it's just nice addition.

Best humor ever.

EDIT: Forgot about "stupid git." Second best.

Okay... I'm in the first village after the tutorial so I didn't see much. The game seems to be a mix between Gothic and NWN2 (but with better combat and dialogues)

Technical shit: game runs rather good (1280x1024@max_details) on my XP3000+, 1GB, GF7600. The problem are the loading times - I hope it'll be fixed with the first patch. Now it's good to have a book near you.

Combat: really nice. The click system (you have to click in the right time) is really fun and if you do it right you get really violent. If you manage to trip opponent or stun him you can perform a mercy blow. On hard difficulty it's obligatory to use this as normally you won't bypass the defences of the opponent.

Dialogue: It's supposed to be ARPG, but you don't mow through hordes of baddies - most of the time you're talking with NPCs. Dialogues are... normal. Except the standard questions (quest related and gathering information) you can talk about spcecific for this NPC things. This way you can unlock sidequests and get some bonus shit. Interesting thing happened when I asked dwarven blacksmith about scoia'tael - he told me to fuck off and never said a word to me.

Shit! I'm off to work...

Loading times @ 1gb ram can be pain in the ass, another gb is really recommended. Apart from this, game runs maxed on the specs, that are significantly below optimal req.

So far so good, game is really atmospheric, nice dialogue options (no skill checks on them, though). C&C appear one by one, still I'm not sure of their significance. Probably some consequences will be seen much later.

Fuck, for some time there was no such a game, that got so much attention from me. Rather absorbing for now.

Can anybody explain the character creation/development system? I have no idea whats it like. The only thing which I understand is that apparently you have no choise but to be a fighter but you can choose mage skills(dont know about thieves).

Also, do you get any new weapons at all? I got the impression that you have your weapons from the start and anything you may pick up, like axes and other swords, are inferior.

This game will phail to sell because you don't have teh charecter customization opshuns... Oblivious set a high standard! I mean, how can you not be able to modify essential stuff like facial and pubic hair???!!!11! So not next-gen. On the serious side: I can't wait for reviews to emerge. I'm so curious to see how many points they knock-off just because you can't customize your character's appearance.

Char system: yes you have to be a fighter (a witcher exactly). Your character "brain" stats are set - you're Geralt (like you know him from the books). You can alter your skills though.
Each attribute (strength, dexterity, endurance, intelligence), sign (spell) and fighting style (fast, powerful, group) has its own "dna-tree" of bonuses you add after level-up. So in Endurance tree you have lots of resistance bonuses, in intelligence you have alchemy, lore and spell bonuses etc. Fighting styles for each type of weapon (steel or silver) also differ. Some of them can't be unlocked the normal way.

Weapons: from what I've seen you can have at least 3 weapons with you. Swords on the back, axe or other blunt weapon attached to the belt and a dagger to the leg. The inventory slots for equipped items depend on the armour you're wearing. You can also make some kind of grenades for which you also have slots on the armour. Fighting styles are applicable only for swords. You start with a leather jacket and a regular steel sword so finding/making equipment is necessary.

EDIT: of course you can't access inventory during the fight so preparing your potions/grenades and weapons before the fight is a must.

there is no need for a skill check on dialogue cause we all know next gen means 'reload on failure' then next-next-gen means 'there is no failure'
