Jonas Hambleton on that throne...is he supposed to look like an old man badly aged to the point of looking like a near corpse, or is he supposed to like a transformed divine creature?

Probably he's supposed to look like an old and twisted by evil powers, man.

This game totally surprised me. On one hand, there is the interesting plot and atmosphere, on the other hand all those frustrating puzzles. Old school shit.

Thanks for the update, waiting for the next one!

That...thing in the catacomb is really creepy. Especially since his physical appearance seems to change from screen to screen.

That just adds to the creep factor. You're being chased by a man who's turned into a monster...that hasn't quite decided yet what it's gonna turn itself into, so it's going through various forms like a teenager in an outlet store.

Parker's expression is so "yeah, my mind's getting assfucked. You wanna make something of it?" Awesome.

Uh, who's Jugg again? Always hard to feel sorry for dead NPCs when you can't remember who they are

Yes? No? Great LP regardless.
There is a resemblance, but in 1993 Dexter was probably still a student at the serial killer college...

That's what I'm asking. I know that you'll meet an old man out in the woods and that to me he looks like Ricardo Montalban.

Let's make the Codexers decide on it when the LP gets there.

CHAPTER 12: FAMILY MATTERS

It seems we've found unexpected help, it's Walter and his mom!
shadow314.jpg

shadowangryparker.jpg
I don't know how to thank you, but I really must go.

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
Such impatience! You must rest a little and tell me of your adventure. Walter hand over the tripod you took from Mr. Parker and leave us, please.

shadowangryparker.jpg
Horrible events are taking place at Illsmouth. If I don't put a stop to them very soon, then even more ghastly things will happen. How lucky I was that you were there...

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
I take care of the graveyard. We heard a noise... It's not the first time folks have taken an interest in that grave... But, we better talk inside.

shadow315.jpg

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
We were newly-weds when Jonas died. John went to the Hambleton house for the wake.

shadowangryparker.jpg
Do they still live there?

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
No. After the fishery went bust and Jonas died, they moved closer to the harbor.Jonas body was laid out on the floor of the house.

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
At that time there was a window in the wall. John looked through... And what he saw was a desert with giant steels. And strange creatures.

shadowangryparker.jpg
My god !

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
John was frightened. He lowered his eyes... On the ground was the sign ! Wilbur, who was standing over his father's body covered the sign with a sheet...

shadow316.jpg

shadow317.jpg

shadowangryparker.jpg
There are in Illsmouth four families who are trying to help some unspeakably evil gods to return to this world.

shadowangryparker.jpg
To destroy these families, I must place these four statuettes on their houses.

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
WHo are these families?

shadowangryparker.jpg
Arlington, Hambleton, Coldstone and Tyler.

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
You know my husband could get that sign out of his mind. I believe he made a drawing of it... Ah yes, here it is.

shadowangryparker.jpg
Mmm, It's the drawing of a star. Or should I say a pentagram? I must leave, time is of the essence.

shadowmomofwaltery.jpg
Be careful. They're most likely expecting you.

shadow318.jpg

It's about time we kicked some cultist ass! But as you have probably guessed there are plenty of ways to screw this up and end up dead. If we do things the wrong way...

Tyler will fireball your ass.
shadow319.jpg

Arlington will turn into a dragon-creature and devour you.
shadow320.jpg

Coldstone will empty a good old-fashioned shotgun on your face.
shadow321.jpg

The Hambletons will smash your head with a stick and then throw you to Jonas.
shadow322.jpg

So what is the right way to do things? Each statue has an invocation engraved on the base. When we face one of the cultists, we should have the statue ready and speak the corresponding invocation. If we say the right thing then the family sign will be revealed. By placing the statue on the sign, we destroy the cultists.
shadow323.jpg

Let's deal with the mayor first. Parker speaks the invocation and...
shadow324.jpg

shadow325.jpg

shadow326.jpg

shadow327.jpg

It's time Tyler paid for all the Carters he murdered...
shadow328.jpg

shadow329.jpg

shadow330.jpg

shadow331.jpg

Coldstone will molest little boys, no more.
shadow332.jpg

shadow333.jpg

shadow334.jpg

Ahh, that felt good.

And now for the hard part, the Hambletons. Their sign, as we know, is somewhere inside their old house. But if we go there, they'll be waiting for us and we can't handle all of them together. How about creating a diversion?.

Remember that rotten fish we're carrying around? Now is the time to use it so we can lure a little cat.
shadow335.jpg

Then we'll release the cat in front of the Hambleton house, and the dog will start barking.
shadow336.jpg

Time to circle around the Hambletons and get in the deserted house!
shadow337.jpg

shadow338.jpg

Hmmm, not so deserted after all. Let's take the compass and the lamp. This is one of those old houses that were built without any safety procedures in mind. These houses are full of death traps... If you're not careful you can:

Get caught in a net:
shadow339.jpg

Fall through a crack on the floor:
shadow340.jpg

Get decapitated if you stick your head in the fireplace (my favorite so far...)
shadow341.jpg

Die by some kind of corrosive acid:
shadow342.jpg

Get burned:
shadow343.jpg

So we'd better be careful. As we'll find out this place is all about secret doors and levers. Using the compass with the ship-wheel opens a secret door that leads to another room. Here, if we place the lamp in the right place on the fireplace , yet another secret door will open!
shadow344.jpg

Mmm, seems like we're getting somewhere. There is an interesting book on the bookshelf.
shadow345.jpg

Let's take a look:

" Page 111 :

The worshipers of He-Who-Howls-In-The-Night. Oh! His symbol
is the butterfly Hannibalus... More commonly referred to as
the Comet butterfly !

Four stigmas of different hues, red, white blue and green,
punctuate it's wings. These wings are so fine that with the
help of a "camera obscura" equipped with a lantern, you can
project these colors onto different materials.

Thus the operator could easily locate on sacred monoliths,
the positions where certain ritual talismans were placed.
Once these talismans where in place and the ritual formula
had been spoken, the "operator" could call upon or chase
from the celestial sphere He-who-Howls-in-the-Night. "

Hmmm, can't use this knowledge now, maybe later.

Now it's time to... PLAY WITH LEVERS! We take the handle from the drawer, use it on the telescope, and reveal... more levers !
shadow346.jpg

If we push the middle lever a ball falls from the ceiling lamp.
shadow347.jpg

We use that ball on the painting and... the inconceivable happens ! Another sicrit door opens !!
shadow348.jpg

Finally. We've reached the place with the sign. No more doors and levers, I promise. Let's say the mantra and be done with it...
shadow349.jpg

Ooops !
shadow350.jpg

shadow351.jpg

shadow352.jpg

Goddamit Parker , use the statue !
shadow353.jpg

shadow354.jpg

shadow355.jpg

shadow356.jpg

And get the hell out of here!
shadow357.jpg

Hey, isn't one of those evil Hambletons, still alive?

shadow358.jpg

shadow359.jpg

shadow360.jpg

I guess not.

Parker collapsed outside the Hambleton mansion, but once again the good doctor took him in...
shadow361.jpg

shadowdrcobble.jpg
Mr. Parker, could you tell me what you were doing last night in Jonas Hambleton's house?

shadowangryparker.jpg
No, I'm afraid I couldn't tell you.

shadowdrcobble.jpg
That's all very well but...

We should convince Cobble of our good intentions.
shadow362.jpg

shadowdrcobble.jpg
Yes, I think I would believe you. I have lived in Illsmouth too long not to know of some terrible things.

shadowangryparker.jpg
Doctor, if everything goes to plan, the evil shadow that hangs over Illsmouth will soon be a mere memory.

shadowdrcobble.jpg
I pray you are right. These... things have something to do with the comet, don't they?

shadowangryparker.jpg
Yes, tonight's the night.

shadowdrcobble.jpg
Then there is precious little time to lost. Last night's events caused quite a stir.

shadow363.jpg

shadowangryparker.jpg
And what about sergeant Baggs ?

shadowdrcobble.jpg
He understands nothing. But you should be careful... He's looking for you.

shadowangryparker.jpg
I had gathered that much.

shadowdrcobble.jpg
I must leave you now. Ah... Miss Guildchrist gave me this for you.

shadowangryparker.jpg
Thank you, doctor.

shadow364.jpg

Haven't we all, Mr. Underhouse, haven't we all...

CHAPTER 13 : THE HANGED MAN'S SMILE

We've finally reached DAY 3 ! The day the comet passes. It's going to be one HARD day.

What did I tell you, the moment we step out of the house we have to deal with miss Picott.

shadow365.jpg

shadowangryparker.jpg
Dr. Cobble told me all about it this morning.

shadowmisspicott.jpg
I'm still under shock! Such screams! I don't suppose you've seen my niece?

shadowangryparker.jpg
I'm afraid I haven't, no.

shadowmisspicott.jpg
That little flibbertigibbet is up to Lord only knows what kind of mischief! I'm so worried. Anyway, you really should be pay us a visit. Gloria would be most touched.

Mmmm, I'm sure Parker would like to touch her, but without miss Picott present...

shadow366.jpg

shadowmisspicott.jpg
Well, you should stop worrying about stars and come back down to reality. Well, no matter. Goodbye, Mr. Parker.

Let's see how the other local beauty is doing... :Gulp: where are those heart pills?

shadow367.jpg

shadowangryparker.jpg
Good day, Miss Mathews.

shadowmary.jpg
Hello, Mr. Parker did you hear?

shadowangryparker.jpg
Just this morning...

shadowmary.jpg
Well, you must be a very heavy sleeper! What can I do for you?

shadow368.jpg

shadow369.jpg

shadow370.jpg

Parker, is such a pussy. He probably needs a drink to loosen that tongue... Hey, what's with that bastard, Zeke?

shadow371.jpg

shadowjeddonahue.jpg
That's how it looks.

shadowangryparker.jpg
What are you insinuating, Mr. Zeke?

shadowbarmanzeke.jpg
Just my way of talking, forget that I said anything.

shadowangryparker.jpg
You claim that you saw me do something?

shadowbarmanzeke.jpg
No... I was just talking to pass the time of day. Here, have a drink on me.

shadowangryparker.jpg
I don't wish to drink with you. You're a fool, Zeke.

shadowjeddonahue.jpg
Can't argue with that !

Zeke must be spreading rumors about Parker. Things don't look safe. If we wander around the town we'll eventually bump on Sergeant Baggs...And without an alibi, it's goodbye Carter. So we better get quickly to Underhouse. Baggs will find us there, too.

shadow372.jpg

shadowangryparker.jpg
I'm all yours. If you'd care to come to Mr. Underhouse's apartment, we'll be able to talk.

shadowsergeantbaggs.jpg
Let's go.

shadow373.jpg

shadowunderhouse.jpg
Be my guests, gentlemen.

shadowsergeantbaggs.jpg
Okay. Now, where were you last night, Parker?

"In bed" will sign our death warrant. What we need is an alibi. And with "well..." we'll give Underhouse a chance to help.

shadow374.jpg

shadowunderhouse.jpg
Sergeant, we spent the evening together. We were talking about Indians.

shadowsergeantbaggs.jpg
You're sure about that, Mr. Underhouse?

shadowunderhouse.jpg
Yesterday, I gave my key to Mr. Parker. We talked until 3 o'clock in the morning. By the way, we noticed something unusual. We saw Mr. Zeke hanging round Coldstone's place about midnight.

Ha! two birds with one stone!

shadow375.jpg

shadow376.jpg

shadowangryparker.jpg
You did me a very great favor.

shadowunderhouse.jpg
You must act quickly. Tonight is the night of the comet! Narackamous must not be allowed to intervene.

shadowangryparker.jpg
What can be done?

shadowunderhouse.jpg
An old friend of mine lives in the forest. He's an Indian called Natawanga. He sent me this message, when I was trying to stop them myself... That was before my accident.

" To fight the sorcerer,
you will need to find the sacred bow and arrow.
They belong to the youngest.
His accursed family lives from the sea.
The bow is hidden where the fire lives.
The feather on the wood will fly towards me. "

shadowangryparker.jpg
I don't understand.

shadowunderhouse.jpg
This feather belongs to Indian tradition. I'm not really sure how it works. Natawanga is a shaman with mysterious powers and you can't find his house, without him guiding you in some way. As for the bow and arrow, it's up to you to find them.

shadowangryparker.jpg
Well, I'll do my best. Where does this Narackamous live?

shadowunderhouse.jpg
Nawatanga should know. Be on your way. And don't forget my photo of the stone circle !

All clues about the bow and arrow point to Curtis... Outside his shack we find Bishop. He was trying to reach Curtis too, but he found the shack locked from the inside...

shadow377n.jpg

Hmm, there's a stick on the ground, Let's pick it up and try to open the door:

shadow378.jpg

shadow379.jpg

There is also a padlock. Remember that brooch we bought from the store? We can use it's pin to lockpick the door.

shadow380.jpg

Dear God !

shadow381.jpg

shadow382.jpg

shadow383.jpg

Moccasin tracks? Smells like Narackamous. Remember the loose floor planks, where Curtis probably hid moonshine whiskey? Well, he also hides the arrow there. As for the bow, it's cleverly hidden in the fireplace. It's a good thing Narackamous was unaware of their existence.

shadow384.jpg

shadow385.jpg

With bow and arrow at hand, we can now play the role of both Cupid and Mars... I think we'll deal with war, first.

Narackamous will pay...
