Old design is last-gen and must die painful death.
When new design will overtook the site completely?

Now that the design is done, that's the next part. The Codex wasn't built very well initially (given it was 8 years ago) so it'll be a matter of gradually bringing the rest of it in and updating as I go. Then once all of the front page is done, the forums will get upgraded to SMF.

I'm not interested in paying for a vBulletin license when there are decent free options and phpBB (even the latest one) needs a lot of mods to get basic functionality in. You also have to fight phpBB to make it do what you want where-as I've found SMF a lot less of a pain to work with (including the SSI features, a nicer admin control panel and neat things like auto-update). It took until phpBB3 to match SMF functionality and they're still missing the bleeding obvious (really blatantly obvious things like quick reply which the design committee at phpBB seem to think is unnecessary).

As end-users, you shouldn't notice much difference between the two.

Were the pages besides the front page intentionally left in the old, ugly format? (Click content from front page...etc.)

Content items have now been brought in (with big ad up the top because it doesn't fit anywhere else nicely). Not the actual content list itself though, still have to do that.

Content list now in. Search function appears to be mostly working correctly despite some quirks with the full text option I may look at later.
