Heavy helmet style

Normally, I would just consider this as an unimportant element of the game, which can be easily overcome by just not equipping this item.
But since most of the soldiers and guards of the pictures you have released so far, are wearing the heavy armor helmet, it is something that bothers me.
Elements that are used predominantly throughout the game, have a certain influence on the overall atmosphere that is created by the game.
Therefore, if it can be quickly fixed, I'd like to hear your opinion on that.

When looking at these pictures, I think that the helmet is somewhat too clunky, although that is probably the direction you were aiming at, in comparison to the light helmet.
Still, I think that it would improve the look, if you considered to smoothen the somehwat rough edges and hence giving it a slicker appearance.
Maybe it would be worth considering to take some of those elements for a heavy helmet (probably without the fancy head):

Furthermore I don't think that the helmet's two hair pieces look all that appealing. Personally I'd say that a long compound piece with a tail would look better.
(On top of that, maybe you should consider using different hair colours for the different armors. The brass armor could probably work with a black and white pattern , while the red one fits more to the silver/ chainmail one. This would create diversity among the guards and therefore improve the atmosphere)

Don't get me wrong: I know that this isn't an important feature and therefore issues like the lighting etc. should be your main focus, but still, if changes like that can be made quickly, they are probably worth considering.

We'd consider that, thanks.

Definitely.

Well, looking at the helmet selection there's really nothing left to say. At least from my point of view, every helmet style from that time period that I could think of is included (even the one that I was talking about).
Nicely done.

Looking at that selection VD, the screens you release in future may do well to have figures wearing the more commonly seen styles. The one on the top left seems to be everywhere and might look a bit goofy to prospective punters when you get to that stage... as the OP proves.

I agree Hazelnut.
but this brings up another quite delicate topic:
Finding the balance between a wide spread usage of items by npcs (and hence creating variety) and the players wish to stand out.
Personally, I think that once again Fallout is a perfect role model in this case.
Nearly all items were common and thus the game world looked quite diverse, only a few armours (Power armor) was really rare and made you feel "special".
So probably the same would work for guards either...

The screens posted earlier showed the barracks of the Imperial Guards, which explains the uniformal armor/helmet style (including PC's armor).

Just to clarify what I meant in case you misunderstood (I'm not sure) - I meant commonly seen styles in most peoples' life experience. In museums, books, films etc etc

I've been trying to recall what the heavy helmet remined me off. Well, I saw it on TV today. It looks like a Samurai helmet. A Roman-style Samurai helmet. I like it. ;)

Personally VD I like the helmets alot. Quick question: Do some allow for some sort of reaction bonus when with a certain group? (IE a helmet with officer's markings or something giving you a bonus when dealing with the Guards)

You can disguise yourself as an Imperial Guard without being one.

Cool. What about stuff similar to the SMoking Jacket in Arcanum? (It's expensive and maybe looks like you've got cash, so everyone is nicer to you)

Clothes & armor have a hidden "rank" value, so if you decide to pretend to be a nobleman, you better be wearing decent stuff. Similarly, if you wear expensive armor, that would be noticed too. Also, there is Prestige reputation trait. Being one of the top guys in your guild, especially in a Noble House; doing certain quests certain way; and sporting diamond rings and rare stuff contributes to it. The higher the trait is, the easier it is to have things done your way.

I agree and was thinking the same thing. No one wears a helmet if they can help it! Let alone a heavy battle helmet - that would only be worn during actual battles, for the msot part.
