When he snatched the lyrium idol in the Derp Roads expedition. Technically, he wasn't possessed. This kind of ancient evil is different from your usual demons. It will play a major role in the storyline further.

I still can't grow accustomed to how creepy Merrill's face is.

Her tattoos seem to have come from the the bottom of the deepest chasms of the uncanny valley and that's coming from a guy who finds facial tattoos to be pretty cool (if obviously cheap) way to style characters in fantasy.
