"baldurs gate is not an rpg

its a choose your own adventure book from the 80s"

this fag has failed on level that cannot be defined or explained using language or words alone

i swear he has got to be a troll, no one can spew the shit that comes out of his/its mouth without being full of fail

I don't think he's trolling, i think he's just autistic and ridiculously obsessed with Japan.

Does anyone have a link to that old rant that explained how jRPGs and wRPGs differ? It had a part where it explained that wRPGs are (or were) trying to bring more role-playing to PC because they were based off of table-top games, where-as jRPGs took their inspiration from the first cRPGs and just took the number-crunching further and leaving choices and characters in the dust.

It was an interesting article, with some good point but I'll be damned if I know where it was.

everyone already knows this but anyway- here it is condensed

in the 70s fags got all gay over Lord of the rings, and fags enjoyed playing monopoly

they put the 2 together and created a rule set for playing LoTR (ok technically it isnt exactly lotr but you get the idea)

obviously pc games werent exactly around- the first commercially available computer- the apple 2 (ok again, technically not true- this was the 2nd computer, but the first was a fail from a fag who ended up making nothing from the computer boom anyways) wasnt up to task so dice playing was where it was at

richard garriot (a fucking child genius who basically raised the rpg genre from its infancy and created so many of the conventions and ideas we still use today its not even funny) was one of the first to create rpgs on computers based on D&D

that was late 70s

then he made ultima around 1980-

richard continued to basically push the rpg forward, untill the early 90s when EA fucked him over so bad, ruined ultima by forcing out of the door early and sent him into early retirement and killed his creative spirit

the japs werent really ready for rpgs because they are too complicated for them- so one jap- yuji horri- decided to dumb down ultima 4, and steal the battle ideas from wizardry (no thats not a lie- he admits it himself from interviews)

japan went all hard over this new game- and the jrpg was born

america never really got into rpgs- even its own because...... you know, americans are dumb fucks and all that- anyway, in europe rpgs boomed

in the late 90s, sony put 100 million into advertising and sold final fantasy in america, 10 milion worldwide sales later and america embraced JRPG

pissed that the japs were stealing all the loot, the west decided to make good games (although you know- fallout came out the same year as FF7 and only sold 100,000)

enter- mr todd howard- he loved rpgs, but what is crucial is he KNEW HOW TO SELL RPGs TO AMERICA

morrowind sells 3 million
wRPGs take the lead over japan
WoW rapes everyone even though its not really an rpg
oblivion destroys jrpgs for good

sakaguchi (the creator of final fantasy) leaves square- all future final fantasies after this point are SHIT

thats basically where we are today
