Sounds like you weren't so lucky with the winterwolf pelt biz :(. I hope your income will increase now that magic items will become rather common. I would hate if the pace slowed down coz of lacking supplies. I would consider gearing up a tank character with as low AC as you can reach at this point (this should be around -5 without buffing) and clearing out the ankheg infested farms north from FAI and sell the heads. IIRC the beregost smith gave like 500gp/head (you just had to made sure to have one head at a time and drop the rest otherwise the bastard would steal them all hah). Altho, even this probably wouldn't get you out of the gutter if i think about it. Friends+algernons+human influnce when shopping is probably something you are doing already, but who knows.

So? As long as you don't mess with basilisks

Basilisks are like the main exploit of Baldur's Gate. The 1st level spell "Protection from Petrification" will render you invulnerable to them, since they only have a gaze attack. So once you have wizard with 1st level spells 3/day you can equip him with Ring of Wizardry and then it's free XP :)

or just drink a potion of mirrored eyes, or use that korak dude. The point is, stone statues don't drop their equipment like civilized fodders.

Only have gotten a few wolf pelts and the smith does not buy the shells. As a matter of fact he won't even make the armor. Not sure if that is a bug or a 'feature' of this install.

Also I got the cavalier down to -5 now (full plate, +2 shield, ring of protection +1, and bracers of dex). Hope he lives for a bit.

This is where I ran into the Skeleton Warrior that almost raped us. Damn him and his magic resistance!!

Stone to flesh scrolls are only a few hundred GP. I picked some up just in case. But like I said I didn't want to deal with the random spawns.

And another thing - Web in this build completely incapacitates you. No drinking potions, no shooting missile weapons, no casting smells. Is that how it was in the original game or is this another 'feature'.

Not 100% sure. Web is one of those spells that acted differently in every version of D&D. Pen & Paper AD&D 2nd ed Web spells required people to succeed on strength checks to move. Some DMs interpreted it as actual movement in 5ft sq on the battlemap, while others interpreted it as anything that involved moving the body, including casting spells with somatic components, attacking or drinking a potion.

I'm not sure which school of thought vanilla BG follows. The little 2nd ed I played before my group switched to 3rd ed, we never actually had a wizard along all that often. (Mostly played dark sun).

But if a mod has changed the web spell, does this mean you can ignite it with fireball/burning hands/flaming arrow now?

Web = Held (Paralyzed) in vanilla BG. So it works the same as vanilla, Paco.

1) Go to Cloakwood

2) Get the Spider Sword-thingy for Teh Barbarian

3) ???????

4) Profit!

Web in BG has the same effect as Hold person. You are fucked if you get trapped with enemies nearby. period. That's why it's a so freakin powerful spell when you have several mages and a free action ring (pick pocket it from the halfling right at the start of the town added in totsc).
The problem with petrify is that they like to chunk you once you are turned to stone. No coming back from that one.

I guess this means no more crying about web then. Need to find some 'free action' items. Our party lacks a thief so we may need to murder that Halfling guy. There is a ‘Ring of Free Action’ for sale but it's 30K. Just about 25k over what we can afford.

Killing the halfling might have bigger consequences. You don't wanna fuck up that whole town. You could also boot a char only for the time it takes to get the ring (bards have flat PP based solely on level and dex, too bad you met both of them already :(), you said you would sometimes switch to original chars for a short duration anyway.
But here's the backup plan:
Step 1: have a party member die in an "accident"
Step 2: recruit a thief
Step 3: pickpocket ring
Step 4: have the thief die in an "accident"
And life goes on. :smug:
edit: also spiders bane (2h sword with free action) is available in cloakwood 3, from the fat spider lady.

2h swords won't do much good for mages though. we'd have to give that to the archer.

Mages are level 5 now, so otherwise it's just another 2 levels until minor spell trigger. If memory serves, spells stored in that can be cast as a free action.

Mages don't need free action, melee guys do. And once the enemy is held, it really doesn't matter if you have proficiency or not, since you can only miss with a 1 roll. Mages/shooters stay outside and pick whom they need to.

Alright people. Here is what we are going to do.
HMW2_S.jpg
We are going to Larswood then head north until we find that bandit camp.
fengS.jpg
Will there be death and dying this time?
HMW2_S.jpg
Absolutely not. We have a much better crew for this trip.
EMW_S.jpg
Thanks chief!
HMW2_S.jpg
Who are you again?

Is it just me or are there a lot of bandits, hobgoblins, worgs, and wolves around?
AjS.jpg
Fear not my little mongrel friend. Our cause is just so we will not fail!
HFW_S.jpg
You might die though. You don't seem to have a lot of staying power.
HMW2_S.jpg
Think of all the practice we are getting with our weapons and spells! I love the fact that every 20 feet we need to fight a horde of monsters or bandits.
fengS.jpg
Sometimes I miss my temple. It was nice and relaxing.
HMF5_S.jpg
The Barbarian wonders why you left?
fengS.jpg
Well in the end we all follow someone's direction.
HMF5_S.jpg
The Barbarian walks his own path.
fengS.jpg
I guess we are not all as lucky as you.
HMW2_S.jpg
What are you two talking about? Destiny directs our journey. Let's go.

HMW2_S.jpg
You question my leadership every chance you get!
fengS.jpg
But maybe we should pretend to want to join with the bandits.
AjS.jpg
What!? I would never debase my self by 'pretending' to be a bandit.
HFW_S.jpg
Bandit's are pretty dirty as well. I don't like being dirty.
fengS.jpg
We can be clean bandits. I'm sure there are some.
HMW2_S.jpg
Nope, that plan sounds to risky. Lets stick to the killing everyone theme.

Holy shit - what were those?
HFW_S.jpg
What, never seen a shadow before?
AjS.jpg
And have you consorted with these foul creatures of death before?
HFW_S.jpg
Well no. But you need to be careful of they will suck all of you strength leaving you as helpless as a little girl.
EMW_S.jpg
Aren't these guys a little out of our league?
HMF5_S.jpg
The Barbarian wonders if perhaps you have been unmanned by fear?
EMW_S.jpg
No it's just.. never-mind.

BGMain2010-09-1218-02-49-02.jpg

EMW_S.jpg
And now there are werewolves!
HMW2_S.jpg
Excellent - I have never killed a werewolf before.

HMW2_S.jpg
That ship has sailed. Time to move on.

BGMain2010-09-1218-22-14-61.jpg

HMW2_S.jpg
Alright we are one step away from the bandit camp. I think the question on everyone's mind is: What is that smell?
HMF5_S.jpg
The Barbarian has collected a few scalps.
BGMain2010-09-1218-22-21-84.jpg

HMW2_S.jpg
Right. First back to Beregost to sell the scalps then on to the bandit camp.

Do we have any sort of strategy?
AjS.jpg
My faith is my shield! Behind it's radiance we shall overcome this plague on the people!
fengS.jpg
OK. Hope that works out for you. But do we have a strategy that will work?
HMW2_S.jpg
I thought we would go into the camp and eliminate the outside guards. Then we would enter each hut and kill the defenders and leaders one by one.
fengS.jpg
That's you plan? No misdirection? No flanking operations? Just walk in and kill the people outside then kill the people in the huts.
HMW2_S.jpg
You worry to much. This is going to go fine.

BGMain2010-09-1218-42-02-95.jpg

HMW2_S.jpg
Good work people. We are right at the edge of camp now. Lets try to keep this quite to begin with.

BGMain2010-09-1219-27-33-88.jpg

HMW2_S.jpg
Hmm. Tap use that wand to summon some monsters.

We got this Grunker, we got this!
BGMain2010-09-1219-28-45-66.jpg

HMW2_S.jpg
Not good. Someone heal Grunker.
HFW_S.jpg
Doesn't look like we have a backup cleric hiding in the bushes chief.
fengS.jpg
Burn in hell Paco!!!!
BGMain2010-09-1219-29-02-12.jpg

HMW2_S.jpg
OK that was not a good thing.

BGMain2010-09-1219-31-56-23.jpg

BGMain2010-09-1219-32-05-27.jpg

This was the first of several failed attempts to take the bandit camp. We came close a few time with multiple causalities before Paco went down but never quite made it.
I considered reverting to an earlier save and trying to join up with the bandits until this attempt:

fengS.jpg
Do we have any sort of strategy?
AjS.jpg
My faith is my shield! Behind it's radiance we shall overcome this plague on the people!
fengS.jpg
OK. Hope that works out for you. But do we have a strategy that will work?
HMW2_S.jpg
OK first off lets assume that some sort of alarm is going to be set off that will call all the bandits to where we attack.
fengS.jpg
That makes sense.
HMW2_S.jpg
So here is what I want you all to do:
HMW2_S.jpg
Tap - Use your wand to summon as many yau-ti as you can. If they fall summon more. Concentrate you arrow fire on the mage.
EMW_S.jpg
How do you know there is a mage?
HMW2_S.jpg
There is always a mage. SMA you need to keep the reinforcements sleeping until we can finish off the first batch. Concentrate you magic missiles on the leaders.
HFW_S.jpg
Will do.
HMW2_S.jpg
Barbarian, Wulf - you two concentrate on the leaders. Kill them quick as you can.
AjS.jpg
Understtod.
HMF5_S.jpg
The Barbarian strikes whomever stands before him.
HMW2_S.jpg
And Grunker - your job is to stay alive. If you go down we are royally screwed.
fengS.jpg
I'll try to keep in mind the inconvenience my death would bring to the rest of you.
HMW2_S.jpg
Alright - lets go.

fengS.jpg

HMW2_S.jpg
I have one word for you: Destiny!

BGMain2010-09-1219-42-27-44.jpg

I updated the reserve list. If anyone wants in they may want to submit a healer class (not that Grunker dies or anything).

Also there have been deaths. Stay tuned.

Job well done on not dying at the bandit camp, although I wonder if you've yet to face Tazok? I do recall fighting him in the camp, and then, in the tradition of all great villains everywhere, he buggered off.

Didn't see him at the camp. And we did die at the bandit camp.. many times. Just that the last time we all survived (I have no idea how).

You have to join the bandits to meet him, where you can fight him, and kill him if you are fast enough for 4000xp and a nice gauntlet.

Whoa, bandit camp sure benefited from taking the leaders out from the tent. Where will we go next?
