What do you mean, larping? Fuck me, I just described one of the most stereotypical (and personally most enjoyed) types of dwarves in the history of rpgs and that counts as larping?

It counts as fucking LARPing when you assign 15 charisma and 12 intelligence to a Barbarian in a game that will never, ever notice it. 16 Dex and 20 Con would be better to an extreme degree, and the game won't notice any difference (except in an incredibly small number of cases, in which you could just as well use another character).

LARPing = "imagining" something within the game that the game doesn't react to. I.e. Cooking dinner and making your house pretty in Oblivion, or choosing not to wear the better armor because a worse armor looks more cool. Baldur's Gate will not treat your Dwarf differently whether you assign 10 or 15 charisma to him, so if it helps your game to use the 5 points elsewhere, giving him 15 "because it fits the character" is the very definition of LARPing.

Wulfstand said:
Since he's basically the fucking awesome liked by all dwarf, he needs that bit of CHA for his witty sense of humour.

Don't really care myself (I can LARP sometimes, if it doesn't hurt my game, though it's rare), but your lulz-smiley is pretty funny considering how correct the accusation was ;)

Whatever man, if you say so. I thought it'd been a bit more interesting to give him a fast 'description', then to just throw a name, race, class and a few stats. And I also didn't want to make my character a powergamer's wet dream by making his int, wis and cha dump stats, thus the small explanation as to why i gave him 15 cha and 12 int.
I mean seriously, seeing your character giving normal responses to some npc while he's supposed to be mentally retarded (3-4-5 int) just isn't my style of play. :/

I should probably add that Ulminatis religion explicitly forbids memorizing single-target damage spells. Only AoE and buffs, debuffs, hinderances and utility spells for me.

As I said, I don't really care and might do something along those lines myself - just don't go near Mondblut saying you did that.

I'm curious as to your own definition of LARPing by the way. What you did is pretty much the essence of LARPing, so if you don't think so, then what is?

I don't know, I thought larping was imagining dialogues between your characters and everything along that.

Larping is running around in a forest, dressed in faggy robes and throwing bags of salt at people while yelling LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT!

Det gør de kun i USA.

And that's a point of critique for the game; that it doesn't recognize this (like indeed other games do). I feel ya bro! Still LARPing.

Space language aside, a couple of years ago I lived right next to a forest. And about once a month, a bunch of nerds dressed as wizards invaded the place. There were also the obligatory 2-3 jailbait girls in slutty gothwear accompanying them. I distinctly remember taking a shortcut through the forest on my way back from drinking one evening, whereupon I was attacked by one of the nerds that tossed a wad of rolled-up paper at me and yelled "Ice crystals!".

I did what any sane, drunk man would do. Startled, I punched him in the stomach. He crumpled to the ground and I ran off before his friends caught up with me. LARPers are strange people.

You gotta keep up with the times, dude. This is modern danish LARPing:

LARPing in the Codexian slang is doing things that are totally unsupported by game mechanics or that are completely pointless for the game like walking at normal pace instead of running in Morrowind because "a character realistically would never always move around running" among other similar bullshit.

Also, inventing a fanfic shitty story and creating characters over the own game that are totally unsupported by its gameplay mechanics is another example of LARPing, like what is done in many SA LP threads.

Which is why highly moddable and sandboxy/4x strategy games like most Paradox Games, most Civilizations and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri are better if you want to make up a plot in the middle of a LP.

Finally, here is some "incline" of LARPing:

There's nothing wrong about discussing LARPing if you follow it up with pics of hot girls doing it.

So yeah, basically, what the hell bros :rpgcodex:

Lotta violence in the intro. Wonder if that will translate into 10s of thousands of deaths by the end of the game. Anyway watch the intro movie in all it's YouTube glory if you want.

Now for something different.

New start screens for the BGT. Since we have all played the game before (right) I am not going to show character creation. If people whine about it I might think about adding it later but then I won't because I didn't take in screenshots.

So lets get us going:

Road trip. Wonder who is going to get the most tail. Oh yes we will be keeping track of this.

Behold - Paco and his minions in all their unarmed glory!!!
BGMain2010-09-0118-54-39-47.jpg

Awesome - we lost a xp point. Just awesome.

I have a good feeling about today. As a matter of fact I have a good feeling about my life in general. It's like the gods looked down and said 'Paco - you're going places.'

Garion said to come alone but that doesn't seem fair. Who is willing to stand with me and help me achieve all my goals without any consideration for your own personal needs, desires, or safety?

Well.. I guess you lot will do. We should see if there are any pointless tasks to do before we leave.

Next Chapter: SMA proves she all girl and pointless tasks are avoided.

This is eerily similar to every RPG experience I've ever had. My characters always transcend their uselessness and become unstoppable behemots of destruction 5 minutes before the game ends.

But hey! At least I got my sling and awesome Dex of 10

We're keeping tally on how many times he changes gender from wild surges, right? :incline:

So, SMA... When you say 'staff'...

Lovin' it already! Here's hoping my amazing CON will keep me alive for longer than the first Gibberling-attack!

EDIT: Hmm, I have only 8HP. Shouldn't I have 10 following the rules? (8+2)

I'm really rooting for some nasty wild surges.

I heard wild surges go well with an ironman playthrough, spicing up the gameplay a little bit.

You can see it coming from a mile away.

I've got a feeling a certain cursed belt is coming your way. :M

Keep it up! I never managed to finish BG 1 my self, the inane pathfinding in the nashkel mines killed it for me in combination with insane sniper kobolds, and then having the game crash as I finished that part.
