MOAR!!! By the way, I think that labyrinths suck too in jrpgs/rpgs with high enemy encounter rating, the only thing worse than a long maze is a long maze filled with deadly enemies every 3 steps.

So, you've been playing SMT games...

So, here we are, at the ancient Labyrinth of Knossos. According to the legend, Daedalus the Athenian craftsman, was the architect and inventor who designed --for King Minos of Crete-- the labyrinth in which was imprisoned the Minotaur, a man-eating monster that was half man and half bull.

2ed5yc8.jpg

The labyrinth was so skillfully designed that no one could escape from the maze or the Minotaur. Daedalus revealed the secret of the labyrinth only to Ariadne, daughter of Minos, and she aided her lover, the Athenian hero Theseus, to slay the monster and escape.

oj3vq9.jpg

In anger at the escape, Minos imprisoned Daedalus and his son Icarus in the labyrinth. Although the prisoners could not find the exit, Daedalus made wax wings so that they could both fly out of the maze. Icarus, however, flew too near the sun; his wings melted, and he fell into the sea.

wsjq6a.jpg

Stone tablets found at Knossos also speak of a Lady who presided over the Labyrinth. The Lady of the Labyrinth was considered to be as powerful as all the other gods together...
So, now you know where the Planescape universe creators got their idea for the Lady of Pain ;)

24wah6r.jpg

Modern archaeologists believe that the Labyrinth might have actually been King Minos Palace itself, since it was a massive maze-like structure.

Hey, how did that Boris Valejo pic ended up here ? Eh, you can't go wrong with chainmail bikini-thongs :smug:

Searching for Ariadne's Thread.

Now, let's take a look at this shelf here.

ve7z82.jpg

30ww307.jpg
There are three statue heads here. One of Zeus one of Apollo and one of Ares.

Of course we decide to take them with us for "archaeological research".

wugyue.jpg

Sheeeeeet. The moment we picked up all the heads, the door shut down.

24mudn7.jpg

28hg00n.jpg

2ufu936.jpg
We're not dating, Jones. This is NOT a date.

4t96bc.jpg
look, I-

33bo7l3.jpg
If this WAS a date, I would have stood you up.

She shouldn't talk like that when there's a huge bottomless chasm behind her...
Anyway, we have to put at least one head on the pedestal in order to get the door open. Let's move on.

qn2uso.jpg

This place is filled with dead ends.

majaxh.jpg

2hq84ea.jpg

30ww307.jpg
Sophia, do you think we're lost ?

2ufu936.jpg
Who knows ? I'm too lost to think.

Eventually we reach this place. There's another door and another pedestal here.

ornkgp.jpg

Of course we decide to place the two heads on the pedestal and see what happens.

ezq23c.jpg

The door moves a bit, but it doesn't open. It may need three heads to be opened... Bah, let's search the other entrances.

fcs5g9.jpg

wi6lo1.jpg

2ufu936.jpg
Aaaaaaaah !

t8t36o.jpg

2dvjqlg.jpg

Great, now we're back at the start. Hmmm... it seems the third statue head is in our line of sight.

2eku26o.jpg

That's what whips are for, dude !

34dhlxj.jpg

:whip!:

r6yf45.jpg

12163pv.jpg

clap.gif

Whips are certainly underrated. So, now we have the third head.
Let's look around a bit more. After further investigation we come to this interesting room :

2ia33x1.jpg

30ww307.jpg
I used to wonder why the Minoans were so obsessed with bull-headed figures. Come to think of it, I still wonder.

Hmmm... this room sure looks import-

dqrlt2.jpg

Crap ! The moment we stepped both on that plate, it started descending fast !

2ufu936.jpg
What's going on, Indy ?

30ww307.jpg
It must be a primitive elevator of some sort.

Well, hello.

5ej248.jpg

2ufu936.jpg
I always thought Mr. Otis invented the elevator.

30ww307.jpg
Yeah, well, this is our floor.

But the moment we step away...

33bo7l3.jpg
Watch out !

30mtwlf.jpg

This gets better and better. I wonder who's that guy here...

el5grc.jpg

30ww307.jpg
Looks like he starved to death.

2ufu936.jpg
How awful.

4t96bc.jpg
I guess he knew a LOT more than he let on...

2ufu936.jpg
But not quite enough, apparently.

30ww307.jpg
Yeah... We'll starve too if we don't find a way out of here.

Things don't look good... Let's see what is that note he's holding.

10f6v47.jpg

Sternhart's Note said:

I am convinced the Map Room lies beyond the next chamber.

Alas, I cannot get past the gate.

I need that orichalcum detector.

Map Room, eh ?

30ww307.jpg
Too bad for Sternhart. He came a long way.

Since we're in a deadly situation, it's okay to steal from the dead. This staff sure looks sturdy :

2yl4g7t.jpg

And what's that near his feet ?

t7k6lj.jpg

ALLRIGHT ! Things are starting to look better. Let's see what's in the next room.

23ubdwl.jpg

It seems that George Lucas desecrated these ancient ruins too. The door isn't budging, but we spot a pulley on the other side. Let's try to pull it...

j133nt.jpg

I know, let's use the staff !

2exubtc.jpg

DAMN, nothing works ! I hope Sophia has some useful input...

24oy1b5.jpg

:(

The note said something about an orichalcum detector. We try to use the bronze fish, but it just points at Sophia's necklace.

Another dead end.

Dead, like Sternhart's eyes that seem to be staring at our two heroes. Will Indy and Sophia find a way out of this dreadful Labyrinth, or will they meet the same end he did --a slow, agonizing death from starvation ?

...Or something even more sinister awaits them ?

nqwqr6.jpg

All will be revealed in the next chapter :smug:

It begs the question -- Why did stenheart place his moonstone and sunstone under the lift to get crushed? You can see the in the first screenshot where the lift is descending, and afterwards it's just rubble.

You could argue that a dying starving man couldn't care less about where he placed the stones, but obviously it's the best way to leave only one remaining triplet of key-stones. Now these stones Indy has, are even more important.

Look up how the Minotaur came into being for the lulziest piece of Greek mythology ever.
Yeah, Zeus fucking around and Hera getting revenge on him has created many lulzy Greek myths. Of course it was always the humans that took the heat.

Zeus did many hilarious things concerning mortal women. Back then, gods behaved much like mortals, just without the same consequences.

We're in a hot-spot people. Trapped starved and desperate. Since the "We'll soon die, let's have sex" argument doesn't work with Sophia, we better find a way out of here...

Another rotting corpse on the road to glory.

Let's have a look at that waterfall.

2v2z81j.jpg

Snap out of it, Jones ! Have a closer look.

30ww307.jpg
...wait, there's a chain running up behind the waterfall ! It must be holding the elevator's counterweight !

Now we're talking ! We better climb that chain.

25u6rvb.jpg

2ufu936.jpg
Where do you think you're going ?

30ww307.jpg
I'm climbing this chain.

2ufu936.jpg
You'd better come back.

4t96bc.jpg
Trust me.
2mr9tg1.jpg
(I just had to make one those)

So, our hero valiantly climbs up the chain...

6pnq14.jpg

292xixt.jpg

30ww307.jpg
I hate getting wet.

Hurray ! We're free. And as you may remember we also have the trird statue head, so let's go and use it.

24dftsp.jpg

We find another set of chambers. One of them piques our curiosity, it has a big stone shaft :

t6thsn.jpg

Also, a closer look at the statue head reveals that...

ot3wr8.jpg

When Indy finds "clefts", he always tries to put his "stick" in.
Very subtle, I know

20h280i.jpg

30ww307.jpg
It didn't seem to do anything.

Damn. I hope he doesn't hear that very ofter.

Ok let's take another passage that leads upwards and try to find where that shaft leads to... Aha !

x1yqu8.jpg

Another ancient elevator... and a shiny gold box !

eprnyg.jpg

Must... have... gold... box...
Hmmm, what's that thing under the counterweight ?

30ww307.jpg
It's a wedge that keeps the counterweight from sinking.

Hey, that's what keeps the elevator from working ! Indy will have to use his stick again.

rr7h49.jpg

2qtvcar.jpg

All right ! Now back to rape the statue's mouth.

2j1q4cn.jpg

Ancient Elevator said:

30ww307.jpg
Going up ?

5xvomd.jpg

And the gold is ours !

10nawdx.jpg

30ww307.jpg
There are two orichalcum beads underneath it ! I'll take them too.

Good man. Let's examine the box.

6fbotu.jpg

Okay, a gold box and two orichalcum beads, not bad ! But there's is nothing more of importance in this part of the Labyrinth. We'll need to find a way to reach Sophia again.

3494cr8.jpg

Hmm, let's have a look at that Minotaur's head...

30ww307.jpg
It looks a bit wobbly.

Wobbly ? Nothing our whip can't cure.

2m7xok7.jpg

j6r15l.jpg
Now we have appropriate weight to go down...

25termr.jpg

Unfortunately for Indy, if he wants to go back up, he'll have to do some more water-chain climbing...

mwe8at.jpg

Ok we have a box , some orichalcum, but how is that's going to help us, gotdamit ?! Bah, let's see if we can use that orichalcum-detector-fish we have...

v80tgm.jpg

No shit, it's pointing at the biggest concentration of Orichalcum. Dead end.

OMG, WE'RE GONNA DIE IN HERE !!!

hwh18x.jpg
Not yet Junior. Use your eyes, boy !

Hmm ? what ?

ay0hvl.jpg

We found a possible exit !

hwh18x.jpg
Hmph, It was about time.

But it's probably too narrow for Indy, we should try to get Sophia to go up there...

bdo089.jpg

A little sweet talk never hurt.

30ww307.jpg
You look great in this light.

33bo7l3.jpg
What's that supposed to mean ? It's almost pitch dark !

4t96bc.jpg
Uh, yeah.

Nice going there, Henry Jones Jr.

30ww307.jpg
Sophia, let me boost you through that hole.

More sweet talk, I see.

33bo7l3.jpg
What ? I'm not climbing through there. I'll bet it's full of spiders, or rats, or snakes !

Dammit, we'll have to use some rat diplomacy.

6y1b49.jpg

2ufu936.jpg
I'm not worried, you'll think of something.

AARRRGHHH

30ww307.jpg
Alright, boost ME through the hole.

2ufu936.jpg
Boost you ? Ha ha ha !

30ww307.jpg
What's so darned funny ?

33bo7l3.jpg
I couldn't BOOST you as far as I TRUST you... let alone up there.

I wish i could use the FISTS path here.

242dgd5.jpg

2ufu936.jpg
I'd rather not.

4t96bc.jpg
You probably couldn't fit anyway.

33bo7l3.jpg
Was that a crack about my weight ? Are you saying I won't fit ?

z8pqv.jpg

2mr9tg1.jpg

33bo7l3.jpg
Ohh, you are so insulting !

Ok, now she's really mad.

2hggv2p.jpg

Let's get on her good side.

30ww307.jpg
Sophia, I'm sorry I was rude.

2ufu936.jpg
You're just trying to get on my good side, but I forgive you anyway.

30ww307.jpg
Thanks. Now let me boost you up there.

2ufu936.jpg
I already told you I don't want to !

4t96bc.jpg
What's the matter... scared of a few bugs ?

33bo7l3.jpg
You don't fool me, Jones. You're the one who's scared of snakes !

30ww307.jpg
So what if I am ?

2ufu936.jpg
So you admit it... *sigh*

i6m8ow.jpg

Praise the gods, she finally got it !

30ww307.jpg
Afraid not.

2ufu936.jpg
Okay, boost me up.

It's boostin' time.

2j2x81w.jpg

iz589i.jpg

mazdcz.jpg

30ww307.jpg
Well, use it !

2ufu936.jpg
Okay, hang on.

2d0m70m.jpg

Happiness is overrated.

30ww307.jpg
We're not out of the woods yet, but nice going.

This new complex of chambers definitely tells us we're still in the woods.

b6sj04.jpg

Dammit, there's nothing here we can interact with.

2qusms2.jpg

Awesome, we're back at the start. What now ?

14bqrlc.jpg

hwh18x.jpg
Think, Junior ! The note said something about detecting Orichalcum nearby !

Ok, let's use the fish.

2wfs11h.jpg

Naturally, but what if we put the orichalcum in the gold box ?

1077vnp.jpg

Hah ! The box conceals Orichalcum's presence ! Now all we have to do is put Sophia's necklace in.

30ww307.jpg
Sophia, can I borrow that necklace of yours for a while ?

2ufu936.jpg
Why ?

2aij33s.jpg

We could have some fun with the various responses, but let's cut to the chase.

30ww307.jpg
I think it's throwing off the orichalcum detector.

2ufu936.jpg
So ?

4t96bc.jpg
So I want to put Nur-Ab-Sal in a box.

33bo7l3.jpg
Ha ! Boxes can't hold him.

30ww307.jpg
Sophia, we need to hide it !

2ufu936.jpg
You think so ? Then say : "Nur-Ab-Sal is a mighty King, and his Eyes See Through."

Give me a fucking break.

2gtp4qx.jpg

2ufu936.jpg
It's a chant, just say it !

30ww307.jpg
Are you crazy ?

33bo7l3.jpg
So that's what you think !

Goddammit. She really has an unhealthy obsession with that Sal guy.

5a5i5i.jpg

2ufu936.jpg
Alright. I can't give you my necklace, but tell me your plan, and I'll try to help.

vfb88n.jpg

33bo7l3.jpg
Don't be ridiculous !

Let me tell you, I'd really like to drop that fucking necklace in one of these pits.

30ww307.jpg
I want to drop it in this gold box.

2ufu936.jpg
Okay, give me the box, and I'll put it inside.

2itq8us.jpg

Great. It's time to use the detector.

2yv9jcl.jpg

Okay, what about here ?

30dgs9c.jpg

BINGO !

30ww307.jpg
The wall seems to be crumbling a bit...

You know what that means... it's ship-rib time.

25z2jdj.jpg

2vltpwn.jpg

A hidden passage !

20qmflf.jpg

30ww307.jpg
This must have been the bead that attracted the orichalcum detector.

2ufu936.jpg
Great, now take the gold box. I want to wear my necklace again.

Ok, let's go through that door to the right... WHOA !

28aus1u.jpg

30ww307.jpg
Either Atlantis is a lot smaller than we thought, or we've found some kind of map or scale model !

2ufu936.jpg
Laid out just as plato described it, in three concentric circles !

We're getting close ! If that isn't a spindle in the middle, I don't know what it is.

2dpdoo.jpg

Then it's about time we used our three key-stones. Let's remember Plato's writings...

Plato said:

To approach Atlantis itself
a Worldstone was required as well,
with darkness ruling the old city
without challenge.

Right on.

1253pds.jpg

Hey, a statue started moving in circles !

2d27mg9.jpg

This it people. Let's take our stones and find out what wonders await us beyond this door !

2ccmmmv.jpg

Crap, another dead end ?

23ivtbp.jpg

30ww307.jpg
Where are you ?

rrqrnb.jpg

Uh, oh.

23mwoc9.jpg

otgmlz.jpg

Sophia may be an annoying bitch, but she's *our* annoying bitch.

iliuso.jpg
Leave the girl out of this, colonel.

2i0y0x.jpg
Why ? She's perfectly happy to join the winning team. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee her safety unless you hand over the stones... NOW !

2096nuo.jpg

NO retreat, NO surrender, for Xtreme Indy !

2i0y0x.jpg
Don't tempt me ! This is your ONLY chance. Hand over the stones or I'll be forced to KILL YOU.

iliuso.jpg
You're bluffing.

2i0y0x.jpg
I never bluff !

14y1umr.jpg

mah1dl.jpg

2hf3zfs.jpg

:rage:

I guess you *can* die in this game after all. Let's try this again.

303lod0.jpg

2i0y0x.jpg
You're in no position to bargain, doctor. Hand over the stones, or you'll never see Miss Hapgood again.

30ww307.jpg
Okay, take the stones, just don't hurt Sophia.

2n68dmw.jpg

2i0y0x.jpg
...in my custody !

5uh1cm.jpg

What the hell ?

35nbslx.jpg

We're dead meat.

2h4eyvq.jpg

2i0y0x.jpg
You MUST board the U-boat !

2ufu936.jpg
I'm not going anywhere ! What have you done to Indy, you creep ?

2i0y0x.jpg
Forget about Jones ! How can you expect a man to lead you through Atlantis, when he can't even find a way out of the Labyrinth ?

33bo7l3.jpg
And YOU'RE practically an Atlantis TOUR GUIDE, I suppose.

2i0y0x.jpg
We have charted an underwater entrance to the Lost City. TOGETHER we will discover its secrets !

33bo7l3.jpg
Good luck.

r1a5b5.jpg

2i0y0x.jpg
Join us and fulfill your life's ambition, or join your friend, another rotting corpse on the road to glory.

2ufu936.jpg
Well, how can I refuse hospitality like that ?

Things don't look good, folks. The Nazis have all the goodies and we're trapped in a room inside the Labyrinth.

Nope, things don't look good at all.
