Per this news item on Sorcerer's Place, it appears that Neverwinter Nights is dead as far as Atari is concerned. So, here's the first quote of the IRC crap:
May 26 02:55:16 <[DLA]Steel_Wind> Atari called to tell BioWare they were stopping the premium mod program and not authorizing any further patches for NWN1
May 26 02:55:22 Ouch.
May 26 02:55:23 * Cygnata points to Lisa. Is.
May 26 02:55:24 <[DLA]Steel_Wind> They did not want any talk of free horses at E3
May 26 02:55:25 Yikes!
May 26 02:55:33 <[DLA]Steel_Wind> NWN1 is dead. Atari killed it.
May 26 02:55:35 lol
May 26 02:55:37 SW: WHY?
May 26 02:55:42 <[DLA]Lisa> the live team was disbanded
There's also some clarafication that the live team hasn't been disbanded in this thread on the subject.
So, finally, it's DOOMED! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED! Mwuhahahahahha! DOOM!
Thanks, Taluntain!

New NWN premium module availible for purchase ( Game news ) posted by Spazmo on Thu 18 May 2006, 18:20:52 More info on Neverwinter Nights - More info on BioWare
BioWare have just revealed the latest in their series of Neverwinter Nights premium modules: Infinite Dungeons. You can go and buy it at the BioWare store on the 24th. You've journeyed to Waterdeep to explore Undermountain, the most famous dungeon in all of the Forgotten Realms. According to the legends, there's treasure to be won, puzzles to be solved, and a mystery that will lead you ever deeper… But the legends never told you how deep it truly went.
Infinite Dungeons provides randomly generated adventures for characters of every level. Play with your friends or compete against your adversaries. If you dare, you can play alone. In the end, it all comes down to one question: Are you brave enough? As a corollary to that infinite monkeys on infinite typewriters yeilding the complete works of Shakespeare idea, could an infinite amount of NWN eventually produce an actual good RPG? Someone fire up the supercomputer so we can find out.

NWN premium modules review at GamerDad ( Review ) posted by Saint_Proverbius on Wed 19 October 2005, 19:22:02 More info on Neverwinter Nights
GamerDad has a review of all the premium modules released for Neverwinter Nights. Those would be the little mini-modules that you get to pay to play. While the author liked most of the modules with the exception of one, here's something I thought was kind of off:
One bad thing that "Premium" currently means is that you have to stay connected to the internet so the module can verify ownership every time you start the module or load a saved game.
That's uberlame.

Yet another CRPG genre editorial at GameSpot ( Editorial ) posted by Saint_Proverbius on Tue 02 August 2005, 07:34:07 More info on Neverwinter Nights
Yup, there's another editorial about how the CRPG genre is kind of going piffle. Here's a little bit on one of my favorite subjects:
I'm not going to claim that Neverwinter Nights is unpopular or anything--with the burgeoning modding community that surrounds it and its strong performance at retail, it would be silly to do so. As for me, however, I never found NWN to be the second coming that many claimed it would be, especially since BioWare was attempting to follow up on a string of truly stellar Dungeons & Dragons RPGs that it and Black Isle had created, such as Baldur's Gate II, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale II. It had a pretty stunning legacy of gaming goodness behind it, and in the end, the shadows of that legacy were too long for Neverwinter Nights to escape. It committed some nasty sins in the pursuit of easy modification (replacing the insane detail of the 2D backgrounds of the earlier games with 3D models and somewhat generic tilesets) and online multiplayer (which apparently forced the developers to constrict the single-player game so that you could control only a single character at a time). While Neverwinter Nights is obviously a wonderful platform for third-party mods, if you're into that sort of thing, speaking as someone who primarily looks to RPGs as single-player experiences, NWN was a short, disappointing game that always felt more bland and sterile than its predecessors.
I wonder if he would have said this shortly after Neverwinter Nights came out. I even wonder if GameSpot would have published it if he did. It's all good and well to point out the game was pretty lackluster years after it's released, but I'd say one problem with the genre is bigger sites tend to over-hype mediocre games because of who the developers are, slap CRPG OF THE YEAR awards all over them, and then years later confess they weren't really that good in the areas that actually matter to many people.

NWN Premium Module: Pirates of the Sword Coast Interview ( Interview ) posted by Sol Invictus on Wed 15 June 2005, 16:27:33 More info on Neverwinter Nights - More info on BioWare
NWVault has set up a short interview with BioWare's Rob Bartel on the subject of their newly announced NWN premium module, Pirates of the Sword Coast, as the title above clearly shows. Here's a snippet from the aforementioned interview:
4) What will be its main features? Will there be voice overs? Any custom content?
[Rob Bartel] The extensive new art content is definitely going to steal the limelight this time around as there's literally scads and scads of it. The new module will, as with our previous Premium Neverwinter Nights Modules, contain professional voice-over. Another important feature to mention is that this module is being designed and tested to be multiplayer friendly, something that we hadn't been able to effectively support with our previous premium modules.
Scads. On another note, Deadwood is the best show on cable television. God bless HBO for ordering a third season. There are 45 comments on this article. Click here to comment.
