... or so say EuroGamer:
Atari plans to revisit the likes of Baldur's Gate, Dungeons & Dragons, Neverwinter Nights and Test Drive Unlimited, but not in the next 12 months.
"You will hear more from these but not today, because we're focused on 2009," Infogrames president Phil Harrison told hacks assembled at a press event this afternoon.
Someone's digging out the old Jefferson plans? Hopefully they'll do one of those teaser sites just for good measure.

Baldur's Gate 3 rumoured to be in development ( Game news ) posted by Monolith on Fri 18 January 2008, 00:07:18 More info on Baldur's Gate III
According to a guy calling himself Achilleas there's an article in the latest issue of the PC Gamer UK claiming that Baldur's Gate 3 is in development (again). The good news: it's not developed by Bioware (again/still). The bad news: "it's being made by a company that believes in pushing technology forward."
Here's the excerpt:
"I'll probably get into trouble for telling you this, but hey, I just can't resist. Baulder's Gate III is in the works. I can't really say much more, but a few details to guide your speculation: it's not being done by BioWare, and you won't be playing it for at least two years. You shouldn't expect anything classically isometric either, as it's being made by a company that believes in pushing technology forward."
I don't know who wrote that article as it's hard to get a copy of the PC Gamer UK in these here parts, especially at this hour, but I'd love to either clap him on the shoulder for his biting sarcasm or shoot him in the neck for...just read for yourself.
"All we need now is for someone to pick up the rights to Planescape: Torment and remake it in first-person, and I believe my work here on this earth will be complete."
Thanks, Achilleas! There are 117 comments on this article. Click here to comment.
Baldur's Gate 3 not a BioWare title ( Game news ) posted by Spazmo on Wed 01 September 2004, 20:39:13 More info on Baldur's Gate III - More info on BioWare - More info on Georg Zoeller
According to the daily BioWare forum coverage at Sorcerer's Place, Georg Zoeller, BW designer guy, claims BioWare is not working with Atari on Baldur's Gate 3.
I think Atari announced in some printmag they are doing BG3, but I don't know more than that. I'm sure they'll have an official announcement about it. BioWare, at this time, is not working on a BG game.
So if anyone still thought it was, it isn't. And I doubt there's any kind of J.E. Sawyer-esque "the game is not in production but secretly in pre-production", so that's that.

BG3 info from PC Gamer ( Game news ) posted by Vault Dweller on Sat 21 August 2004, 18:19:32 More info on Baldur's Gate III
I picked up PC Gamer today, and although a lot of people already know what the article says, here are some details:
Though BG3 won't be a direct sequel to the storyline of the first two BG games, Atari intends for the game to have similarly epic scope and feature a large gaming world populated by memorable characters.
It will feature cutting-edge 3D graphics, although the gamemakes haven't decided whether to license an existing engine or develop a new one. Atari ambitious design goal is to make a visually stunning RPG that both lives up to BG's great heritage and evolves the genre.
When asked if the follow-up would stick with isometric perspective, John Hight, Atari Executive Producer, indicated that Atari wasn't "afraid to move the camera for cinematic effect. [Your viewpoint] will be immersive then the traditional isometric perspective and bring you closer to the action. You want to see the fear in the orc's eye as you blast him with a fireball, don't you?"
BG3 will use the DnD 3.5 rules for an authentic roleplaying experience.
While there'll naturally be a lot of combat, Atari plans to include a wide variety of quests and incorporate non-combat-oriented skills to give bloodless solutions to some quests
Hight's bottom-line promise: "It will be epic"
Looks like they have no clue what to do with the game other then to make it visually stunning and epic. And, of course, evolve the genre. Poor genre. Hasn't it been evolved enough already?

New D&D games in Q1 2005? ( Company news ) posted by Ausir on Fri 30 July 2004, 14:44:24 More info on Baldur's Gate III - More info on Atari
According to the latest Atari financial report, the company will release new Dungeons & Dragons game(s) as early as in 2005. It could mean Baldur's Gate 3 or Neverwinter Nights 2. if it's BG3, could it mean that they chose to resurrect Jefferson, given the short development cycle?

BG3 and NWN2 in next PC Gamer ( Game news ) posted by Vault Dweller on Mon 19 July 2004, 14:16:43 More info on Baldur's Gate III - More info on Atari
The rumors about PC Gamer scoring exclusive previews of Baldur's Gate 3 and Neverwinter Nights 2 were just confirmed by this scan. Looks like Grok, the Atari PR rep, was right after all, BG3 and NWN 2 are on the horizon.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, the roleplaying game that made many of us gamers in the first place. To celebrate, we've scored exclusive first looks at NEVERWINTER NIGHTS 2, D&D ONLINE, the D&D RTS, and BALDUR'S GATE 3.
Needless to say, this is the only place you'll find previews of these highly anticipated D&D games plus an in-depth retrospective of D&D on the PC
Well, just about time. We need some new games to bitch about :)
