RimWorld Alpha 9 has been released. It adds booze, drunkeness, brewing, and other moral debauchery.

Sculptures have also have been revamped, they now come in multiple sizes and will depict events that have occurred, similar to the engravings in Dwarf Fortress.

Also, the usual guns and equipment updates. Most notably, energy shields.

Nothing quite like a key colonist coming down with food poisoning and vomiting everywhere, before losing his mind, during a fire fight.

I bought the game couple of days ago. It was a bad idea. It's still too soon to buy this game. I fucking quit yesterday, when a giant fire started in my base and I'm like "Okay... there's water nearby... how the fuck do you put out the fire?" and they're putting it out with their fists. Wtf? This is fucking fundamental. It's like having a firefight, but not letting your colonists have weapons.

Such arguments like "They're putting out fire without water" has swayed me.

The game truly is shit.

You have got to be kidding, this is the best sim game currently on the market. Top points, watch an LP if you want confirmation.

No. Play Factorio. Play Darkest Dungeon. Play Prison Architect. PLAY FUCKING DWARF FORTRESS. Don't waste time on this bare bone game. The only new thing I saw, that was interesting, since their first demo was the temperature management.

:necro:

I guess there's no "main thread" for this game? :(

They're up to Alpha 13 now.

I've spent about 30 of the past 48 hours playing it. Every new game, my colony dies in a new horrible way and I adjust my approach for the next one accordingly. I'm still learning new things about the gameplay on a regular basis.

My favorite things about it:
* Complex but very straightforward AI management system for automated behavior
* Super robust zoning system for organizing supplies, livestock, etc.
* Small scale and strong characterization make each colonist a recognizable individual

I figured it out yesterday after having a herd of muffalo stomping through my corridors for several days. Was gonna complain on the forums until I decided to crack the case myself.

I think on the zoning menu it's called a "permission zone", something like that. So set up one of those, then go to the Animals tab at the bottom. It will show all your tamed and owned animals individually, and you can click for each one to set which permission zone applies to each one (click and drag down the list to quickly set them all to the same one). I like to have a big barn where most of my livestock lives, but let cats and dogs etc. still able to come in the house by setting them to "Home Area".
