Hannibal at the Gates has been released as DLC for Total War: Rome II. A new campaign map focusing on the 2nd Punic War, with a new unit for each of Rome II's factions.

Also released is the free Seasons and Wonders update, which adds more units for Carthage, new wonders, and new seasons for the campaign map.

DLC that holds nothing but a few new units and a different map. What happened to the CA of old that gave us massive expansions that introduced tons of new feautures? Fuck this.

CA screwed the pooch on this one. There's nice little moments within the game, but I've not even managed to finish a full campaign of it. Run out of desire once the civil war starts. I guess there's enough people who'll pay for the DLC but it's thin gruel they're providing with DLC - do wonder whether they spread themselves too thin and would have been better off adding additional map areas as DLC whilst making the campaign side of things a little more involving. The flipside to that is that they're desperately trying to make some amends to their players with the free updates they've done. There is a good game in there, but it's buried under way too many poor design decisions.

I've tried every mod out there and the only way anyone is going to enjoy Rome II at this point is to lock themselves in a room for six months with nothing but Rome II for entertainment and wait until their brain develops some form of Stockholm syndrome.
