Rock, Paper, Shotgun has an interview with Johann Andersson about the development of Europa Universalis IV: Conquest of Paradise.

RPS: Can you go into some detail as to how the generation works and how much variety is possible?

Andersson: It’s a bunch of techie stuff and I’m not the programmer who made it…but here goes. The variation is enormous because it’s all using an integer as a seed. There are billions of them and I’ve seen so many different worlds. There can be a group of continents or a bunch of islands – it’s all completely different every time.

I think there’s a way you can actually share the seed because it’s in the save game, so you could pass that seed to somebody else and share the world. If I recall correctly.

That's soooo cuuuute

But seriously, shouldn't everyone involved in game development who is not an artist have at least a very basic understanding of how a random number generator works? I mean, "each number in a row gets mangled through a sequence of predefined mathematical operations influenced by the seed. The result is then as random as PCs can get." is not that hard to remember.
That one sounds like he doesn't even know what an integer is.

Johann Andersson doesn't know what an integer is? You must be joking.

Integer is also a synonymum for int, which in all modern language mans 32 bit number. Words store random seed proves they didn't meant it as a mathematical concept. On the other hand words billions of them proves he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Everyone from EU knows that billion is million^2.

There are several countries in EU, that use short scare. Also he speaks on English and all English speaking countries use word billion as 10^9, so it makes sence for him to use it in that way.

Exactly. When you speak English it's safer to say billion instead of milliard. And Johann Andersson had been a lead programmer at Paradox since the first EU, so I think that he knows what he is talking about.

The sons of Lusitania kind of conquered the Internet the moment people realized trolling people as a brazillian is really fun. I used to pretend I was a corean before our laugh got so popular. Even russians like to huehuehue.

But really, there's not a single spanish speaker here? Or are they just not outspoken? What are the odds.
