Kalypso has announced a game by the name of Rise of Venice. The game is focused on trading, but also offers naval battles. Interestingly, it is mentioned that the game has a family tree, though it is not mentioned the full extent of which it effects the game.

It is due for release on Q3 of this year.

Sounds like it could be fun. I've spent a lot of quality time with Patrician 3 and Port Royale.

It's a shame. Tropico 3 was great, even though it was basically Tropico 3D with cars. Everything else they'd made is unremarkable, including Tropico 4.

I love Venice and would buy this game for the setting alone, but I was disappointed in Tropico 4 even though I don't really play a lot of strategy games these days. So I dunno.

I'll keep my hopes. With PR3, they mostly fixed the awful combat of Pat4, almost bringing it back to the level of PR1 (the highest point for combat in the entire Pat/PR metaseries as far as I am concerned). Returning the PR3 gameplay back to medieval Europe would be rad.

Now i'm kinda wondering if the venice is so small because you're supposed to be the doge/member of the signora/council of ten/supreme tribunal, including visits to the appropriate buildings, state visits, court trials, battles and stuff, like that republic: the revolution + The Guild game. A game like that that followed a bit historically the (de)evolution of the Most Serene Republic could be interesting.

Tropico 3 was badly made and comically easy. Blood Bowl was excellently made but far too easy against the AI. This will be no less shallow.

Kalypso really is a poor developer.

What does Kalypso have to do with Blood Bowl?
