Thanks to our recent fundraiser, we have officially raised an incredible $4,602.42 for hookers the Codex server! Thank you to all those who donated, your rewards will be coming shortly¹. Our downtime which you may have noticed recently was to move to the new server which is a lovely:

Intel Xeon E3-1230V2 (4-Core, 3.3GHZ 8MB Cache, HT)
16GB DDR3 ECC
Primary Disk: 120GB Intel 330 SSD
Database Drive: 120GB Intel 330 SSD
Backup Disk: 1000GB 7.2k RPM HDD
Control Panel: cPanel / WHM
Public Port Speed: 1000Mbs Public
Private Port Speed: 1000Mbs Private
Route Optimized Bandwidth: 10TB Premium Transfer
Softaculous
Chassis: Hot-Swappable SuperMicro Rackmount
Software Upgrades: LiteSpeed Web Serrver [2 CPU License]
8 IP Addresses

Hopefully things are a little faster now and won't get sluggish whenever > 400 people are mooching the forums at one time - because this will be our new home for the time being. Any further upgrades are going to most likely be into something like the Amazon cloud (assuming we figure out how that stuff works and can find one that will take us).

Now, the Wasteland 2 NPC raffle will be conducted this coming weekend on the 5th / 6th January (Australia time). Names will be printed onto paper and put into a hat. The winner will then be drawn entirely at random.

To ensure legitimacy, the whole thing may and / or may not be filmed.

There are currently 61 people with 152 raffle tickets vying for the NPC. If your name is not on the list at the bottom of this page, now is your last chance. I will technically accept donations until the raffle is drawn (again, because we're greedy).

For now though, thank you to all those who have donated. The funds raised will keep the Codex open for many years, months or days depending on how long we keep growing and assuming we ever get rid of the malware warnings.

¹I wonder how long I can keep saying that.

This is great news. Someday I am going to make a substantial donation to the Dex when my life is less crazy. For the amount of entertainment this place has given me over the years, I probably will owe you bros a server someday.

Thanks to the people that donated so us plebs can keep shit-posting

Could you tell us which kind of hat will be used for the raffle? Or even better yet post pictures of it?
I'm asking because the type of hat and especially it's condition play a huge factor in the decision whether to up my personal donation or not.

The specs of that server don't look all that impressive, but whatever. The Codex is not mainstream enough to need anything more, right?
Anyway, happy 2013 everyone.

4600 dollars for a PC with those specs? I assume the other half of the money was spent on hookers.

Servers are rented by the month, not paid for out-right. The money we've raised should be enough to run it for a year or two - or take other options if it still can't handle the load before then.

I have two hat options. A hat or a fruit bowl.

hatoptions.JPG

The hat is a XX Large "foldable hat" from Red Rock (barmahhats.com.au) measuring an impressive 376 mm from edge to edge (lengthways) it has an interior space of 235 mm and a depth of 80mm.

The fruit bowl is a round bamboo fruit bowl, made in China. It's an impressive 135 mm deep with an internal diameter of 275 mm.

I will likely be using the fruit bowl.

Names will be printed on standard A4 paper which is made from trees, which means it's natural. I'll probably use one of the label sheet settings and cut them out.

Ok, that is a mildly disturbing coincidence. Here, lemme take the hat I'm wearing off my head and grab my cellphone to snap a pic...

Huh, it's enough just for one or two years? What happens after that?

We have a very lucrative sponsorship deal with doritos and mountain dew. Inside every bag of doritos and bottle of mountain dew will be a Brofist code.

This, I now sheepishly realize, makes a lot more sense than what I'd been picturing. So the server... Is not just sitting in Taluntain's house somewhere?

How quickly people forget...

I only got that cloudflare page like once in total. Even then, shit felt more real, down to earth y'know? A server needs to show that it's under heavy load, it needs to crash and burn occasionally to make the users feel alive.

Also,

No.

You should put the names in the hat and draw one while shitting in the bucket and streamlining the whole thing on the main page of the dex.
