A source of mine (who shall remain anonymous) sent me this concept art of Fallout 3/Van Buren depicting what Black Isle Studios' ill-fated game during its concept stages.

Duck & Cover has also received an image of some concept art for junktown's buildings, and No Mutants Allowed have received 2 images of their own(an in-game screenshot and some PA-51 power armor model renders) of their own, in addition to a small movie.

but it's the 3D!

lThe look reminds me of one of those sterile russian/bioware games where they make s 3D engine some shitty skins, and then forget to add the fun.

DrattedTin, what's your take on this issue?

Junktown was my favorite city in all of the Fallouts. It just had such an awesome patchwork feel to it. The concept art for Junktown is very chic.

I do like the concept art, nice find. It'd have been good if the game was ever finished and we had more than this to look at.

The ingame shot is probably early stuff, or at least I'd hope it would be. Although far from vital to the game, a little eye candy is nice. I did notice it looks like it is using a clone of FOT's interface at the bottom, but I don't see anything wrong with it really. I see they seem to have gone for a tile based map system too.

I remember reading somewhere that the textures were either non-existant or unfinished in the screenshots.

Oh, and I can't seem to open the concept art that you linked to.

Behind you.
I think you're remembering where they were talking about how the lighting wasn't done for the screenshots we'd seen, and that's why the textures looked washed out. The lighting effects were supposed to make the game look really good, but turns out, it didn't.

That said, Exitium, next time you get a picture or two of some game that's been dead for over a year, perhaps it'd be better to give that picture to DAC or NMA where it's more relevent.

Looks awsome.

Anyone know who owns the source to the engine, did Bethesda get that when they licensed?

That's probably it. Seems strange to see Fallout in 3D... I wonder what it'll be like to see it in first-person :P

It has been a slow news day. Regardless, if I had read the topic on DAC before posting it, I'd have probably given the screenshot to Teatime.

Yeah, they have everything. The interface was a temp thing Sawyer did with FOT stuff, just for the techdemo, and that pic of Junktown reminds me of the entrance to the Reservation.

Weird, since the lighting wasn`t really set up in the vault section, so i don`t see how you know that. There are more pics that show that the place was exctly like the vault, with the floor still needing a better texture. The eyebot is cool.

Fallout was never about the graphics though. I doesn't need to look awesome, it just has to represent a respectable face, for the game depth.

Fallout looked awesome for its time. Still does. I don't know any other game with the amount of realistic detail Fallout put into its gore or overall setting. Gibbing people in SOF doesn't count, either.

Unfortunately no publisher wants a 2d game anymore, despite how much more warmth can be conveyed through this medium. In contrast, though, looking at Oblivion's screenshots it seems they're approaching that level of detail and almost lived-in feeling. Of course, if all that stuff is interactive you've got to ask yourself why.

Crusader games still have nice graphics and lotsa spiffy gore and good level design.

Saint wouldnt suck Sawyers dick for the picture, so he gave the job to exitium with his experience in those situations.

The Fallout games did impress me as far as looks go, when I first played them, so I can see where Ex is coming from. They still look nice, getting on a bit though. The artists clearly did a good job. The art in BG2 was damn good though, maybe not on the gore front, but the scenes were great. BG1 had some nice work, but you can see how much they refined it in the sequel.

I do like to see some good art in games, SoE has some pretty scences too. It'll be a shame if that all dries up and it all goes 3D.

Yeah right. It has good artwork, but it was always primitive looking.

Crusader: no remorse was done in 91 I think and it looked much much better as far as raw quality goes.

No way. According to Mobygames it was 1995.

Thanks for the correction. It must have been the very last of the dos games.

Oh, and I realized my previous post sounds different than I meant it to. I actually like the artwork in fallout better, but the overally production value in crusader and basic image quality seems quite a bit better.

There was a DOS version of Fallout and that came out in 1997.
