<b>JCal</b> of <A href="http://www.homelanfed.com/">HomeLAN Fed</a> has posted his <a href="http://www.homelanfed.com/index.php?id=11051">Fourth Best PC Game of 2002</a>, which happens to be <A href="http://nwn.bioware.com">Neverwinter Nights</a>. Here's what <b>JCal</b> has to say about it:

<blockquote>However, it's Neverwinter Night's Aurora toolset that puts this RPG above the rest. While other PC RPGs released this year also have mod tools (including the great games Dungeon Siege and Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind), the powerful and easy-to-use tool set for BioWare's game has inspired a massive amount of new modules for Neverwinter Nights and made mods and new missions for RPGs as popular as those for first person shooters. All of these reasons make Neverwinter Nights the best PC RPG released this year and my personal pick for the fourth best PC game for 2002. </blockquote>

I don't know, I think what you can do with <a href="http://www.morrowind.com">Morrowind</a>'s editors is a little more impressive.

I'm surprised that NWN's editors are hailed as the shiznit when they actually force Joe Schmoe who knows diddly-squat about programming but wants to make an adventure (i.e., me) to learn a programming language in order to make the scripts that are necessary to make a decent module. Hell, I'll just go back to PnP.

I played around with the editors for a bit, including the "wizards". You're right, you can't just use those wizards to make anything remotely decent. You can make a dungeon crawl, but that's about it.

Compared to them, if DarkEdit was made to support more complex quests, it would blow NWN's editors out of the water in terms of ease of creation. The scripting in DarkEdit was 90% flowchart material.

Hell! Morrowind's TES construction editor puts NWN to complete shame. The fact that Morrowind can run multiple mods (up to 250!) at a time, assuming that the mods don't conflict with each other (i.e. the mod makers work together and decide not to put two houses in the same spot) speaks volumes of what it's capable of, and coupled with the fact that the entire mod community is cooperative means that you've got a ton of potential just waiting to be untapped. The mods that are out now are really sweet, and there's godloads more of them still in development.

With that said, I just don't see how anyone can compare NWN's mod making ability/potential to that of Morrowind's. Shit farmin' peasants, fool! There's even a bunch of excellent mod makers working on a project to convert the original Daggerfall to the Morrowind engine. Talk about awesome.
