Former Black Isle Studios member Corith states in this thread on No Mutants Allowed some very interesting details about Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart's purchase of all the graphic textures and other art assets on all the original Fallout titles (minus FOBOS) before Interplay was shut down.

Corith writes: To the best of knowledge, they were. Although I believe that Fergus bought the graphic textures (and some other assets) in early June 2004, before Interplay was shut down.

No thanks to anyone for not keeping me in the loop to this development. I had to rip the news off the front page of Duck and Cover. Like a ninja.

That's because no one cares.

And the reason for it is that everyone knows Feargus won't be making Fallout game with it.

That being said, he might be considering developing a post apocalyptic world. Whoah, wait a minute, that would mean an original title from Obsidian, and we all know how likely that is.

Behind you.
I have to agree with Ap on this one. He bought a bunch of textures from Interplay. Who cares? Those textures could have been used in KotOR2 or even NWN2. Just because they were originally made for a certain game doesn't mean they'd have to be used in a similar game with a similar setting.

Well i think this is rather strange. Why get all the art and textures from every BIS game, D&D and Fallout2, and even Fallout1? He`s a businessman, so it can`t be nostalgia.

Major weirdness.

Even more bizarre in my opinion is paying the kind of money he was likely charged for them if he wasn't going to benefit from the purchase. Did he buy them as an individual or as CEO of Obsidian? I'm not sure if it would make a difference, but the distinction seems like it might be significant.

You know I've been giving this a little thought and even though it's not probable that they are making a post apoc or fallout themed game, and that the textures are probably for NWN 2, it could also be possible that they're developing Baldur's Gate 3 based on the Jefferson materials for Atari.

Thoughts?

It could be anything at this point, but why not I suppose. I'd hope he has some plan for it in mind.
