<a href="http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com">Spiderweb Software</a>, the developer of such retro-RPGs as Geneforge, and the Avernum series, have released the third game of this series, the creatively named <a href="http://www.avernum.com/avernum3/index.html">Avernum 3.</a>

<br>
Avernum 3 claims to be, like its predecessors, a massive, and completely open ended single-player RPG for those longing for the golden years of PC role playing, due to its classical, non-linear gameplay.

A 12 megabyte demo is also on offer at <a href="http://www.avernum.com/avernum3/index.html">their site</a>.

It actually will not be the final game in the series - Blades of Avernum is pretty much a certainity.

Behind you.
I've been playing this for a couple of days now. Once you get passed the idea that the mouse is pretty much useless in the game, it's not bad at all. At least Avernum 3 mages start off as something to be feared as opposed to most CRPGs where Mages start off utterly pathetic and end up UBERGODLIKE. I'd much rather have steady, progessive curves than the kind most CRPGs have for mages.
