Well, in the world of The Witcher, the Elves are now all dead and the remnants consist of refugees, which is pretty cool. The Witcher is set in like a post-apocalyptic fantasy world.

u have no idea what u are talking about - there can be elves, but world of the witcher is much more like real world then classic tolkien-like fantasy world. e.g. racism is big issue in this world - from all sides

Well, the Elven kingdom is just a puppet country created by Nilfgaard in exchange for their help during the War, and still very much dependant on the Empire. And yes, there was an apocalypse in that world - the Conjunction of Planes, when the Humans came into that world. It took place 500 years before the events of the main storyline, so there are no really ancient human kingdoms like in most fantasy books.

yeah, but it was so long ago, that u cannt say it is post-apocalyptic world - it would be imho same as if u would say earth is postapocalyptic world cause of ice age

Benedikt, I know the Witcher is more or less non-standard fantasy, but having elves and having these same elves be the remnant of a once great huge elven empire is pretty goddamn cliche.

Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of the Wiedzmin books wanted the word to be translated as Hexer but CD Projekt chose to come up with their own version...

Well, I guess Hexer sounds a little like Hexxen. Might be a reason?
