The Witcher 2 covers up:

So, the chaps at Cynical Brit brought up some of the concerns around the depiction of a female torture victim in The Witcher 2 directly to CD Projekt Red, which led to a surprising revelation. Based on various comments about said torture victim arguably being presented somewhat… lustily, the developers are having a bit of a rethink about that scene.

“We wanted to show in a mature way that this woman is being tortured. But it’s true that the way you show it, some of the players will think ‘okay so there’s a naked woman, maybe there will be a sex scene.’

Guys, this was not our intention. We’re gonna have to think about it, redo some graphics or redirect the scene. It’s not about that, let’s make it so players don’t want to have sex with her, they really feel for her.”

Trying to avoid being sold under the hentai category at WalMart obviously.

Thanks CrunchyHemorrhoids!

Just like another "Brit" over at RockPaperShotgun talked about how he felt aroused after watching that torture seen? So the problem is that some weirdos are getting aroused from torture scenes because they can't accept the fact that a "curvy" woman can be tortured and tortured naked? I guess only ugly women should be tortured, oh and torturers shouldn't be sexist and keep the girls covered all the time, treat them like a lady.

Yeah, this is censorship, you know who you can thank for this. Developers now "re-direct" the scenes because some people keep getting a hard-on at inappropriate moments. :M

Like mayflies at this place. Bye Ancient.

When this came out I sided with the critic's arguments until I finally watched the clip after many user comments disagreed with him. When released the prisoner half collapses and turns away to cover herself, it's very brief. The original article had made me maybe think the cam was lingering on her nakedness or that Geralt took the opportunity for an 'auto success' seduction roll. But it wasn't at all, reviewer was just acting all Jarlfrank about seeing her tied up.

The scene said what it was supposed to about her treatment whilst imprisoned and wasn't at all arousing, possibly tasteful. Congrats for CD Projekt anyway for taking the issue seriously now that they want to handle sex in the game with more maturity after the sex cards.

oh well..

Developers always have to maintain a perfect balance between censorship and naughty/gory stuff.
Naughty/Gory game's are more fun and most ppl like the extra spice , but developers don't want their games to be censored or worst banned in certain countries.

I hope the 'maturity' and 'grittiness' won't reach Witcher books level.

Where one of the mages performs some really creepy experiments on pregnant women and the fetuses, for example.

I somehow don't think that CDProjekt Red staff could handle something like that.

Aww, why was he banned? Sure, he's a retard, but his constant Witcher fanboyism was like a beacon of hope in this cold, dark place. :(

This may just be a nitpick, but I think it's funny that people associate nudity in video games with darkness/grit/maturity. I don't mean in the obvious "there's nothing mature about staring at boobies" sense, but rather that the two concepts exist separately. Games incorporate arousing images and/or sex whenever they can get away with it for the same reason all other media does: sex sells. Breasts are inherently riveting. I don't think showing off a glorious set of pixel tits has anything to do with enhancing dark and gritty themes, nor does it detract from them. They're just tits, and they're there to help keep people's attention whether the world is anime bright, or bleakest grimdark.

You guys really hate FLCL?

Also yeesh, Yeesh, we're talking about someone being unclothed in the process of being tortured. It isn't sex or nakedness just for the sake of being gritty, she's undressed because it makes sense for her to be undressed. Different choices and it's a guy, I think. Bet he's undressed too.

Blizzard needs to go back and censor Diablo so those succubi don't have bared titties. I had such a raging hardon when fighting them, and I don't think that was their intent.

Maybe we should tell Bioware that we get aroused by all the trash mobs, shitty writing, crappy combat etc. in their games and they'll leave these things out too?

I do not disagree. But let us remember that if a woman has a spectacular set of ta tas, it seldom makes sense for them to be hidden. This is the way of the world.

I'll never forget those. And I think it's safe to say that your hardon and Blizzard's intent were not so far apart. Neither literally nor figuratively.

Just avoid slowly zooming around her T&A. as long as the camera doesn't make it look cinematic and sexual, people won't assume they're supposed to expect sex.

It helps if she actually looks hurt and tired instead of panting after a sweaty jogging session, lips half-parted.

Agreed. I don't know why shoehorning sexual encounters in games qualifies them as mature. Granted I'm not familiar with the Witcher novels but I hardly think Geralt's sexual prowess is wholly integral to the plot line. I can't think of any example of a game that was enhanced -- game play/thematically -- by throwing in a few sex scenes. Excluding games that are actually marketed as interactive porn.
