BioWare went official today with the first DA expansion pack, Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening

Designed and written by the same team that brought you Dragon Age: Origins, the Awakening expansion pack offers a brand new area of the world to explore known as Amaranthine, featuring an epic story that will allow players to unravel the secrets of the darkspawn - and their true motivations! Players will face a range of horrific and terrifying creatures including an evolved, intelligent breed of darkspawn and other menacing creatures such as the Inferno Golem and Spectral Dragon. Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening provides exciting new ways for players to customize their heroes and party, including the ability to re-spec their character attributes, allowing even greater customization and replayability. Featuring an increased level cap, new spells, abilities, specializations and items, plus five all-new party members, players can continue their adventures from Dragon Age, or begin with a brand new party.

My cousin and I have been using "The Awakening" as a joke cliche subtitle. Adding "The Awakening" at the end of anything has been making us laugh for about a year now.

Having both "Origins" and "Awakening" in a subtitle is absolutely hilarious.

So once they're done with the darkspawn they'll hand it over to Obsidian to do something creative with it?

I would love a sequel in the vein of KotOR2.

+1. +1 more if they polish the game before release and, you know, add an ending and all that tedious stuff.

An emotionally broken former Grey Warden commander, haunted by the memories of atrocities that have been carried out under his orders during the Blight, travels the war-torn lands of Ferelden, met only with scorn and fear of common folk who know all too well that wherever a Warden goes, trouble follows.

I would love an unfinished, 50$ expansion pack with no notable gameplay enhancements.

Amaranthine? That's a small town in Ferelden, a backwater of a backwater, boring as fuck. At least let us go to the Tevinter Imperium or the place Zevran is from (the Spanish/Mexican archetype).

Been done before. Too Twitchery. If Bioware pulled that, ripping off even the Poles I think it would be a step too far.

Yeah, I admit, it is very creative to keep getting hand me downs for your games. L0LZ

Has Bioware fun out of ideas? It seems this expasnion is just a rehash of the old game's plot? (re)Build the Wardens Grey where in the original game you'd build an army to defeat to Darkspawn.

So it's DA: Origins - now with Talking Darkspawn. And apparently the player will discover the secret reason/plot? behind the darkspawns actions? e.g. their true motivations. And here I thought that the Darkspawns true motivations were just to say 'me smash' or just smash, kick and throw, stab and kill things around (in the game that is) ?

Maybe I was wrong...

But again. Bioware seem to have lost the ability to think creatively, the expansion for both BG1 and BG2 were both unique and creative, offering a chance to go to an island in the first game (SoTC for BG1, the expansion that is).

And yes, I too, would like to see something like 15-20 years has passed. A formert Grey Warden is being haunted by memories of the gruesome things he, in the name of the Grey Wardens have. He sets out to make amense - being feared by the people that he comes across.

Or maybe this:

A Grey Warden meets 10 years with other Grey Wardens. They get into a fight and then...

But hey, there's a toolset out there. Some modders could make this....

Peragus alone packs more atmosphere than all of Bioware's games put together noobl3t.

I was actually thinking more on the lines of TEH BABBY. I mean, that's a starting point right in Obsidian's ballpark to cook something awesome with.

Why couldn't they just make it Dragon Age: Awakening? Do they need a colon after every single word?

edit - my bad, or a dash. too many colons and dashes. Dashing Colon is a great gay porn name, btw.

Fuck your stupidity. Both were fun but how were they 'unique' and 'creative' in the way thatn you claim? Because TOTSC lets you go to an island? Really? FFS Is that really whjat passes for unique?

Sorry; but any little atmopshere it had was ruined by the stupid bitch who was obviously an evil villain being forced on you.

Volowned.

TotSC, while I enjoyed it, was not that creative. If you're going to complain about DA, don't cite "going 2 an island" as the fucking zenith of creativity in expansion packs. You don't hate it for a good reason, you hate it because it's new. That's all there is to it.

You want more Gray Wardens? That Gray Warden shit... is just a boring concept to start with.

Here's an idea to you:

It was mentioned that Wardens die after a 20 years or some such. Have your char be in that situation where everything is falling apart, he's having nightmares, the shakes etc. Obviously he needs to do something important before his death or even save himself. It would be MotBish.
