Oblivion has finally gone gold and should be in stores on March 21. Here is the Pete Hines' message to the community, followed by the typical press-release bullshit.

Here you go, what you've all been waiting to hear and have suspected for a while now. Expect the game in stores in the US as early as the 21st. The date in Europe may be a few days after, but it should be that week pretty much everywhere. As always, please check with your local retail store as the retailers themselves decide how fast to ship it to their outlets. I can't tell you when it will be in your specific city/country, so please don't ask.

“Our most ambitious project ever is finally done,” said Todd Howard, executive producer of Oblivion. “We’re excited to get the game into everyone’s hands and let them experience it for themselves. We hope they enjoy it. I think it’s our best game yet.”

Oblivion is an epic, open-ended single-player RPG for the next generation providing gamers with one of the most life-like gaming experiences to date. The powerful combination of unprecedented graphics and freeform gameplay allows gamers to unravel the main quest or explore the vast world at their own pace. Oblivion is the fourth chapter in the award-winning Elder Scrolls series that includes Morrowind® (2002 RPG of the year – Computer Gaming World), Daggerfall™ (1996 RPG of the year -- PC Gamer), and Arena (1994 RPG of the year – Computer Player).

“Oblivion will set the new standard for next generation gaming and change the way role-playing games are viewed forever,” said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. “We set very high goals and ensure they are reached because that is what our fans deserve and have come to expect from Bethesda Softworks. We are very proud of our team’s accomplishments with respect to Oblivion.”

“Oblivion is one of the most anticipated video games of 2006 and its release will be a milestone for the Xbox 360 and PC,” said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director, 2K Games. “A shining example of next-generation role-playing, Oblivion breaks new ground in the genre with unparalleled graphics, revolutionary gameplay and an expansive RPG world.”

The level of ADHD at the TES Forum has just raised about 439.982%.

Another Bethesda lie, they always claimed the game comes with the CS, now it is a download. Notice they didn't say free download yet MWUAHAHAHAHA.

considering that the pc and xbox 360 are made to link together, I think the download is just one less thing pc users can gloat like spoiled children about. If its a download, then 360 users can get the same content, for a much lower base cost.

@ Lumpy:
It was not directed at you, obviously, but at the announcement.

I won't. I'll buy the collector's edition, if I'll be able to find it.

Well, first, downloading the CS is an unnecessary pain, second, it fucks up people on dial-up, especially those who pay per time used.

Many CSs are downloaded. Maybe they wanted to work on it a little more. It will probably be small, since MW's was 5 MB.

Like crippling it or leaving some extra time to float out their own mods... I seriously doubt it has do to anything with user friendliness, more like DRM.

True, but then again, didn't Interplay do this with Fallout's editor too?

Yes, I knew you are going to pull Fallout in.
Hey, it's only fair :D.
Fair what? They didn't promise to release a "FOCS" at all, yet alone to include it with game and then silently update the FAQ later.

I don't have sekret inside information. But the most likely reason is they aren't ready to release the tools (for good or evil), but can't justify sitting on the game.

Doesn't seem like a bad choice to me.
