Sup, fags?

:smug:

Configuration options are plentiful, as usual in case of Xseed ports:

Which is good...

:incline:

Because game looks like fucking shit with HDR enabled:

:decline:

Who needs this shit, really?
After disabling HDR I got a 20 FPS boost and game looks much better:

Still, massive incline when compared to Ys 8 launch.

So this one is a continuation of the Ys SEVEN formula, right? Can't say that gets me very excited, but might get it just for the XSEED support and banger tunes.

Alright. First off- Play Ys 1+2 Chronicles, to get you started on the series. Simple, relatively short, and fun.
If the gameplay doesn't do it for you , try Felghana. It dropped the 'bump' system combat and goes for something a bit more familiar. Lots of fun as an introductory adventure.

Then, there are 2 "trilogies".
Trilogy 1: Napishtim - Felghana - Origin. (Solo character adventure. Generally shorter.)
Trilogy 2: 7 - Celceta - 8. (Party system adventures. Some more JRPG elements. A bit longer than games of the previous trilogy.)

This is pretty much the "Release order". Play the games by order of release, and watch the gameplay mechanics change and evolve as you go.

Keep in mind that all the stories are pretty much self-contained, so there's really no problem with playing in release order.

ALSO, IMPORTANT: Most of the games are much more fun on the harder difficulties- they give the bosses new attacks, make enemies more agressive, etc. Highly recommended to start on HARD!

Here's one of my absolute fave tracks (if not THE absolute one), this is the theme of the optional but story significant dungeon when you're playing as Dana in the past.

Oh and Dana herself is

Celceta is eh. Memories could have been so much more. Genki-girl is ok.
Recommended difficulty - Nightmare+ only.

I guess it's for the better that they are trying to mix the new features of their games in Ys8, since by abandoning the hardcore formula since Napishtim the series stagnated badly.

Since AFAIK nobody was nice enough to create an undub patch for Celceta PC, I had to do it myself...

http://www.mediafire.com/?w6w0ihkxo933vx4/

Not tested, but the number of voice files in both English GoG and Chinese version from NicoBlog matches (no dummy files necessary). AFAIK only "voice" folder contains voices, "se" folder has only "environmental sounds" (it was different in case of SEVEN). CRCs for files in "se" folder from both versions generally match, except 3 files, but those are only "remixed" sounds of wind and rain (noise reduced / volume level changed). So, this undub should be complete.

OFC, without subtitles / moonspeak knowledge, you won't get what characters are talking about. :obviously:

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
Ah, Ys series. Adventure of Grind and Generic.
The older games were generic fantasy for their time, but nowadays almost refreshing compared to the deluge of anime tropes and otaku pandering teeming in the modern Ys games and modern Jap games in general.

You, we can say that about anime too.

Though, my point is different. Western games are experiences - walking simulators and press "X" to Jason. Asian game are more like puzzle. If you want to solve jigsaw, you must learn their rules. In video games that means grind.

"Ys" is typical asian series. Many other series take core of asian gaming and try do something with that. "Ys" stay by the core. It's more than generic - it's stereotypical.

That's why I don't a big fan of "Ys". But I also understand, that this series can be attractive for people whom need that "ultimate generic asian game".

Dude. I don't play on Nightmare, yet I'm pretty sure no amount of grinding will help you beat boss battles in "classic" Ys games (before 7).

Plus there are no "asian" or "western" games. Game is either good or bad, I don't give two shits about the country it was made in.

OFC, if you're just retarded and don't have a slightest clue what you're posting about, disregard my post and contact a specialist.

Is he even talking about Ys or is he confusing it with some other series? I haven't played 7&8 yet but earlier Ys/Trails games discourage grinding by giving you more xp if your level is low compared to the enemies and less xp if it's higher.

Pretty much any Falcom RPG or ARPG I've played has discouraged grinding by presenting skill/mechanics based challenges to the player regularly. Part of the reason why they're some of the best JRPGs around.

I think he is talking about Japanese games like Planescape Torment where it had shitty 130 hour grindy combat and a child molesting anime story.

Was playing through chapter 5 of Ys 8 and thought the game was super long. Then I checked my time played and it was only 25 hours. Feel every minute of that length.

Now I'm on chapter 6 and really ready for it to be done. Doesn't help that everything before you crest the mountain is filler. I actually enjoyed the Dana solo dungeons more than anything else in the game, only boss fights that felt close to classic Ys.
