XU4, an engine remake for Ultima 4, has updated their FAQ to include a hint at what they're aiming for in the future.

Q: What (if anything) do you guys plan to work on after the 1.0 release?
A: Well, we're still figuring out the exact details, but mainly we're trying to make xu4 a game engine that will ultimately run Ultima 1 through 4 and possibly Ultima 5 as well. In this process, we're extrapolating different commonalities between the games into our engine.
This includes:

sound

tilesets

animations

combat styles

conversations

vendors

That's the direction we're headed at least.

Five Ultimas, one engine. That'd be swanky, wouldn't it?
