Dumb scoring systems in FPS games usually bother me (see: Necrovision) but I hardly even notice it in Wrack. Of course, this raises the question of why the game has a scoring system in the first place. Linking combos together by blowing up corpses is cool and all but if you're going for that style of play why would you limit yourself to the standard, Doom-style weaponset? Just go full ham and give players lightsabers and electric shuriken launchers

On a related note: In a discussion with the leader developer, I suggested the hyperblade would be more useful and fun if it had no ready animation. As it stands, you need to pull the sword out, wait for the ready animation to complete, start swinging, then finally hit something at the end of the swing animation. This takes about a second, maybe more, and feels clunky as shit. As a result I hardly ever use the sword.

The developer responded he would not make this change because the sword would become overpowered, and he was striving for proper weapon balance.

Yeah, it would be better to make the sword give some sort of "debuff" instead to encourage caution and reward skilled play (you take more damage while wielding it, enemies killed with sword asplode so hard they don't drop items, only really powerful at full health, starts weak when you pull it out but grows stronger the more enemies you kill with it until you put it away, etc). A great player would be able to speed through levels with it, turning into a whirlwind of death, at the risk of fucking up his score if he makes mistakes. Making it weak or annoying to use is the worst way to balance things.

They are doing KS campaign for sequel https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2134746636/wrack-starfall-fps-video-game
They dropped all pretenses of being "old school shooter" (which original sucked at anyway) and decided to incorporate as much of popular indie game fads as possible
Wrack: Starfall is a tower defense FPS with procedurally generated levels, unlockable items, and permanent death - also known as rogue-like elements. What makes that great is that it's new every time you play - the fun never has to end!

  • Defend procedurally generated worlds! It's a new world every time you play Starfall. Construct a deadly maze for your enemies and see what awaits you in the item room before each wave.
  • Choose your character! When starting a new game, play as either Kain, Fabian, Starlyn, Vance, or Exo*. Each character has their own unique starting weapon, tower, and upgradeable attributes.
  • Assemble your inventory! Collect consumables, runes, and artifacts with game-changing properties. These spawn in before waves, are dropped by champion monsters, and can be bought.
  • Unlock new weapons, areas, and items! As you progress through the game, unlock bigger, badder, deadlier weapons and other items to aid you along the way.
  • Unleash power shots! Every time you damage an enemy, you build up your power shot gauge. Once it's full, fire a deadly power shot to wipe out enemies, shatter shields, and earn a ton of money through power combos!
  • Shop until you drop! Each new world starts at The Focus - a central base and shop. Use the money you've earned throughout the game to buy new weapons, items, towers, and even gamble!
  • Earn rewards for feats! Get money from kills, streaks, combos, headshots, and so on. Spend that money on towers, upgrades, the shop, or pocket it to increase your final score
