They just revamped their 'Scroll of Resurrection' promotion such that if someone currently playing sends you one (they can send as many as two a day) they'll get some crappy mount (if you pay for at least a month) but you (as the returning player) get:

One character boosted to level 80
    FREE upgrade to Cataclysm
7 FREE days of game time
FREE character move to your realm and faction so you can play together

Okay, who still plays WoW -- I'll take a free expansion~

Don't they still have enough subscribers to classify WoW as a nation?

If any EU players want this shit, give a holla. I have, for some reason, an active sub.

Got some random dude on WoW forums to send me one of these -- I'll play the 7 days just out of boredom (and yay free expansion). If anyone on the U.S. realms wants one, send me a PM or just post here with their realm and character name (note the boost to 80 can only be applied to that character -- I think -- and the free transfer is only to my realm -- if you want to use it).

Seriously? A free character boost to level 80?

That really does reek of desperation.

I'd be complaining about the damage to the integrity of the game, if I hadn't quit after the first expansion ruined dueling.

Does that mean that all the 1-80 content (gameworld zones especially) is pretty much obsolete now? I mean, given that it's a themepark, I guess most of the gameworld will be completely empty now (if it isn't already, I have no idea what the recent population/server stats are)? Any current players who could elaborate a bit on the issues of player distribution across the gameworld, the usage of hubs, interaction between the players (outside of guilds) and similar?

A lvl 80 char really means free gold since if you hit level cap earlier, most EXP rewards turn to gold. But I'm not really desperate to return. I don't even remember my account name and details.

Sorry, totally forgot to check this thread -- sent it out today.

Well, not really. Remember the cap in Cata is 85 so you're just starting out where everyone who played Wrath starts out -- unless you mean going back and doing all of the old expansion quests for gold... which is a pretty tedious way to make gold.

I can also send out invites using people's battle.net e-mail if you want to PM that to me. Don't worry I won't put you on the Rick Santorum mailing list. But, again, I can only do it for the US region.

Last couple of days I've been playing on a medium population server. I rarely see anyone outside of the capital cities but, that said, I'm mostly doing dungeons. I'm not really doing it to level a character just having fun healing in lowbie instances.

Huh. Even though I just picked up TOR, I guess maybe I should use a scroll of resurrection even if I don't intend to play a week, just so WotLK and Cataclysm get added to my account if I ever feel the urge to come back. I assume I don't have to actually install the game or anything? Just activate the scroll via email to get the expansions added and call that good enough?

Yeah, you don't have to bother installing it.

So sue me: I had the urge to play a dedicated healer and you can't really do that in single player games.

I really don't have any skin in this game, and who is to say for sure what's going on, but keep in mind that WoW has a new expansion not so far in the future. The more people they have playing when it hits, the better for them. Desperation or regular old opportunism?

Cool, thanks for the scroll Metro. Not sure I'll ever come back to WoW, but I certainly won't scoff at getting WotLK and Cataclysm for free just in case.

Hahaha, this is awesome. Imagine having played this shit game populated by 12 year old retards for months trying to get to level 80 and then having some shit-stinking newbie with a five year old account gets handed a free max level character.

Illustrates beautifully the frailty of success.

Months? It takes less than a single month to get level capped on wow. And 80 isn't even the current cap, it's 85.

Musta been playing like shit back in the day, then. I played WoW for 2-3 months maybe 6-7 years back and I only got 1 character to 40 before giving in to the mind-wracking tedium. Maybe having absolutely no life is a requirement for WoW progress?

Things changed a lot since those times. Reduced xp and level requirements, better quests, redesigned classes, equipment that scale with level, flying mounts and other stuff made leveling a lot faster.

I vaguely remember getting a free WoW account for some reason but never actually playing it. I still have no inclination to try it but the fact that I could be given all expansions for free along with an instant max level character (or near-enough) is hilarious. Does actually playing a low level character suck that badly? What is there even left to do in an MMO when at max level other than grind equipment runs while being completely unchallenged by the 99.9% of areas that are vaguely plot-relevant?

Yeah, I heard leveling was super fast now. I played off an on for quite a few months and managed to get one character to 70 (Had quit and come back a few times pre-first expansion, then came back for a few months after the first expansion).

And equipment grinding and PVP is basically it for WoW. That was the biggest part of me quitting since I didn't give much of a shit for the PVP (The battlegrounds anyway, I had some fun moments of world PVP. And world PVP before battlegrounds was added was vicious as shit) and I wasn't enough of a nerd to raid. Basically left me with doing the max level 5 man dungeons which were fun for a while since they required teamwork but got old quick. Though I've heard 5 man dungeons now are super easy, and even the "Heroic" versions which are harder and have better loot apparently aren't as tough as the dungeons in the base game were.
I guess there was also hitting max level and then sitting in Orgrimmar all day selling enchantments and chatting just to PISS MULTIHEADED COWS OFF EVERY GODDAMN TIME I HEAD BACK TO TOWN TO SELL SHIT OR REPAIR SHIT THERE YOU ARE GOD DAMN IT I HATE YOU LOCKWAR STOP MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT INCLUDING AN ICECREAM WITH AN ENCHANT I HATE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU

When I was leveling up a warrior and rogue (on a rp-pvp server) I had more fun casually doing quests and getting distracted every half hour to fuck with alliance than doing any level 80 end game raiding or battleground pvp. But, given that world pvp was all but dead even then being low level sucks ass, possibly even more so now (I quit around the time icecrown citadel came out). I didn't really have a point saying this but I like to be nostalgic about shit. Especially when said shit sucked six years of my life away.

WoW affects everyone differently it seems.
