Don't you know cool codex kids hate on everything that seems to be popular so when good but not perfect RPG is released they will concentrate on hating it for every smallest difference to the norm.

If Divinity II sold 5 milions copies instead instead of maybe 500k then we would be having "lol Divinity II i want to be a dragon" thread every two weeks.

QTEs in DMC? Lolwut? DMCs main strenght its that you get to fight regularly all the time, no bullshit QTEs. Just old console school hyperactive button weaving where you get cramps in your fingers after 10 minutes and 250 different combos done. DMC is as console as Super Maria, but it still hasn't been declined (even though "automatic" mode has been added for the Kwons).

Compared to DA2 combat any DMC is pinnacle of complexity, challenge and difficulty.

I am thinking only why do people decline the game from one QTE, we do not know yet how the system mechanic will work etc.
-TW1 wasn't brilliant game, however the scenery of the world was sth new; I've typed fanboys [maybe it was wrong.sry] because when DA is actually 'kill the dragon!' and it seems ok, a dragon in TW is sth awful - even with the fact that the game is based on novel where there was a dragon... so sb could tell that whole novel is shit due to dragon existence :)

The Witcher 2 will have minigames. That summones fond memories of planet scanning in ME2 or hacking computers in Alpha Protolol. Thanks god for minigames. Praise Jesus.

Some mini-games are kinda fun. I found myself playing too much Yahtzee Poker Dice just 'cause it passed the time. Mini-games that are actually games aren't bad. It's just when gameplay elements, like lock picking or persuasion, are done as mini-games, that sucks.

I have fond memories of being doped up on percocet after hernia surgery and playing pool in GTA4 for hours at a time. To this day, Chuck Fenda's "All About Da Weed" remains on my MP3 rotation.

I think there's also another factor at play here: people just can't make their own fun anymore. One characteristic of today's game design is that the player ends up watching all the cool stuff happen in a cutscene, instead of doing them himself, because in most cases he will not be creative or imaginative enough to come up with interesting ways to play a game.

In my opinion, QTEs are simply a way of making the average (dumb as fuck) person think that he's actually participating in the game and doing cool stuff, effectively shielding him from the truth: that the developers think he's too dumb to find ways to have fun unless someone "stages" the fun for him.

Yes, this dice poker thing is not what I mean. It was optional and actually a good way to make some orens.

How about this: In a RPG, I expect multiple methods of defeating/bypassing an opponent, not just "press a button when we tell you." This particular scene sounds as railroaded as it gets.

I don't think all QTE are necessarily bad. It depends on its implementation.

One good example are the Yakuza games.

You forgot to mention, that Bioware is a giant company with plenty of money and resources and supposedly good reputation from the past, while Larian Studios is young and virtually unknown on the gaming scene.

Bioware deserves all the shit flinging that goes on, for using their reputation to sell garbage and make garbage. If a small developer shows a sign of making an attempt to create a game, and even if it's kinda sucks, positive encouragement helps.

If you got an student, who received straight A-s for years, and then suddenly a C-, tells me this student is slacking off and a lazy bastard, and spends its time now jerking off under the desk, while you got a new student with no record gets B- at first attempt and shows signs of wanting to better himself, guess who is gonna get more criticism?

The C&C in TW1 was boring, so why expect anything better from TW2 especially when all the info we're getting is coming from the devs? Maybe the game will prove us wrong, maybe not, but the main concern I have is the amount of combat in TW1 and my opinion that TW1 combat was some of the most boring and tedious shit I've ever played.

    How does it help exactly?

Besides, half of the Codex have already (fake-)preordered it on GOG and secretely hope for the game not to suck. That does not mean that QTE is not a fucking :decline: decision and should be commended just because the developer is relatively new.

*sigh* The translation of the Q&A that I have posted comes not from the devs, but from the journalist that have played the prologue and first act and then answered questions from the gamers.

Forgot to mention the "journalists" are nearly as bad as the marketing departments. Just look at all the "hands on" previews they had with DA2 and how awesome it supposedly was.

Sorry, I really wanted to like TW1. I mean, I really REALLY gave that game a chance. I'll just wait for TW2 to come out and see what the Codex has to say about it.

I think the main reason is that it's easier for the devs to make "boss" battles based on QTEs than actually having to code combat AI within the engine. With set scripts, you have less to worry about in terms of things that can go wrong, which means less time spent coding and bug testing.

In ME2 conversations, the QTEs work well because they're not taking anything away, only adding to the experience. Using QTEs as a substitute for in-engine combat/gameplay is a different story.

At least a game like Indigo Prophecy is consistent. It's nothing but QTEs, so you know exactly what you're getting.

Good luck. The Codex will probably say that it is "shit" and "the shit", at the same time.

    UltraNewfag here.

Anyway, I don't get the butthurt over this. The OVERALL quality of the game is irrelevant to the fact that the QTE aspect of it will be utter crap. Because QTE are utter crap.

If the game turns out to be great then you can say: "This shit is great !" but don't forget to add "The QTE component however, minor as it may be, is utter crap." Truth is truth, no argument.

Also, when a developer advertises an upcoming game with an utter crap component there is a high probability that other crap components will also be present. They may not, but they PROBABLY will.

1.) ALL Fights in TW1 were quicktimish. Only instead of pressing XAQW you had to click the LMB at the right moment.

2.) TW1 failed to capture the Geralt of the books. Instead CDP made some sort of promiscous Steven Seagal of him.

3.) TW1 tried way to hard for sex, violence and foulmouth. Seemed like fantasies of 12-year-olds.

I seriosly don't see how anyone not into arcady action-adventures could have hopes for TW2 in the first place. Mature my ass.

And I wonder how often you will have to reload when fighting that giant squid. Propably only once, if at all. When, in all that "excitement", you fail to see which button to press next.
