The zone is all underwater if I didn't make that clear. The seahorse is fast too -- 450% travel speed.

81 happens a lot quicker than subsequent levels. 5.2 million xp to hit 84, for example.

Euro servers are pretty empty compared to that pic you posted SMA. You have to look hard to find that ammount of people in Orgrimmar.
In a zone there are usualy 5-6 people and if i meet someone during a quest it happens like every 1.5 hour.
I did start from scratch with a tauren paladin on a recommended 'new players' server which is from vanilla WoW.

I'm still "only" level 35, but I think that's rather good for two days work...

I'm on a high pop server, and I've yet to see much activity... but then I entered Stranglethorn vale and christ all mighty every asshat came out of the woodwork to gank my ass. The high level kind of asshat. I got the last laugh though since I went on a solo killing spree in the entire zone, exterminating anybody close to my own level.

    Fucking horde.

Did you have Mini Diablo teabag them? STV is the only place I truly enjoyed in WoW, only playing on PvP server I cannot fathom how boring STV would be on a PvE realm.

The real craziness is in the 80-85 zones, where any given quest will have at least a dozen players working on it and often several times that many. It's calmed down considerably since launch night, but I still haven't seen this many players since the launch of vanilla WoW -- the only other launch I've been present for. I am playing on a high pop server tho.

    Yes, and yes.

STV is pretty much the best zone ever, and I have so many fun memories from that place ranging from leveling my Alliance Warlock and later my Horde Warlock and re-visiting STV at later levels to chill and kill in Booty Bay.

E'T is a fairly low pop server. I've only been competing with a significant number of players during prime time.

The crazy rush of humanity in the leveling zones is why I'm waiting a couple of months to play. Should be enough as apparently it only takes about fifteen hours of game time to go 80-85.

Hit 85 today, and also got Cataclysm Loremaster, i.e. I did nearly all of the quests in the new zones. The quest content in the new zones is quite good, with extensive storytelling, cutscenes, zone phasing, and quest variety. Uldum in particular is a standout for the Harrison Jones questline, whose lighthearted silliness kept a grin stuck on my face all afternoon. The two intro dungeons aside -- Blackrock Caverns and Thrones of the Tides -- the new dungeons are substantially harder than Wrath dungeons. Massive chain pulls are out, and careful crowd control and focused fire are in. Bosses generally have a unique mechanic or two, requiring a bit more coordination and tactics than tanking and spanking. I haven't tried heroic yet -- my gear level is too low -- but my guildies are saying it's as hard as Icecrown Citadel hardmode, which suggests that endgame content as a whole in Cata is far less casual than Wrath. Of course, the linearity of Wrath dungeons is still there in full force, but at least instances are a bit of a challenge again.

    Overall, I'm really enjoying Cata.

Mm, yes. Though Vortex Pinnacle is really odd - trash is often very hard, but bosses were all hilariously easy.

Or 5 hours if you are ATHENE! xD

I kind of doubt that dungeons are much harder than in Wrath. Those weren't aoe fests for the average pug at the start of the xpack either, only gradually with time as gear improved. If they really made them brutal like Outland heroics were it's only a matter of time until the first round of nerfs because Blizzard doesn't want to alienate the casual crowd.

I agree - the instances are perhaps a little bit harder than those in Wrath, but they're nowhere near the Outland-level of insanity. I'm yet to see the final dungeons though, but so far, it's only very occasional wipes - most instances we've done from first try and either without any wipes and deaths or with something that's only there due to unknown mechanics - and those aren't that many.

Just checking the stuff they changed. Wow, what the fuck did they do to the talent tree? Its butchered down in size and now you can't put points in other trees until you max one of them? There goes any possibility for customization or experimental builds. Good grief the dumping down just never stops.

Yeah, this in particular has been rather rage-worthy for quite a few classes. In a way, there's less and less of customization in WoW with every expansion, soon they'll just get to the point you pick a role and get the skills without picking talents. Not that it's even very necessary right now, anyway.

I've been checking it out, the new HCs are seriously hard, but some of the encounters are slightly retarded, like Throne of the Tides instance's endboss. The fight itself is challenging, but the fucking room design makes it borderline impossible unless everyone's geared and the healer is an AoE spammer with full mana. Why? Well, first, the design of the room unintentionally cuts off line of sight too much, the room itself is too big, and some of the decor either screws things up for honest players, or makes exploiting possible for cheatery ranged ones as jumping on top of those things allows to escape the most annoying fight mechanic.

And then there's the squid that you have to target ASAP and nuke down before it kills the group with AoE. Fuck. Whose idea was it to put his hitbox someplace in the ceiling where you can't even tab-target? That's a horribly designed encounter.

Weapon skill was pretty moot anyway, I agree. What they should've done was develop it into something where it would affect more than hit/exp/whatever ratings, but what can you do.

The removal makes no difference either way - there were piss-easy ways of farming weapon skill while being afk before. It's the talent trees that piss me off, and, well... The fact that I've already basically seen everything save for raiding. That's it, all the content's done. Two weeks into launch? Whoa there.

Pretty easily, I imagine. Emerald Dream would be one and meh, I dunno, go off world to the Burning Legion home land or something for another. Metzen just needs to drop a few hits of acid and whip out a storyline over the course of a weekend. After you have that and some concept art the programming is pretty formulaic.

They probably did that because a lot of people complained about leveling (leveling in an MMORPG?!?! Madness!) -- some people just wanted the level cap to remain the same.

That's what some people always want though, I remember when BC was just announced, a mass of people were terrified of levelling again. I guess part of the reason is the revamp of the Vanilla content, but really, the expansion for existing players ends up falling short on content even compared to Wrath.

Oh well, will get raiding after new year, then we'll see what it's really like and whether the mini-raids are anything like what they've been claimed to be design-wise.

Haven't tried Cata yet, myself, although the raid content does look nice. However, I just don't have the will to dedicate the time required... and I don't really enjoying farming the same thing over and over.
