I'd like to remind people that some Tactical JRPGs have good enough C&C to make codexers cum over themselves.

I hate the ultraformulaic artwork of JRPGs. It's like there is only one artist doing the artwork for all the games, with the hero being the same fucking spikey haired kid with a wary face and oversized sword. And all the females look like 12 year olds, with the same face.

Even if jap games had the best gameplay ever I can't play a game when I'm so utterly revolted by the art style.

A lot of people hate Sengoku Rance.

Needless to say they are faggots and undomesticated snowmans.

I'm a simulationfag and JRPGs are too abstract.
Most of them are too linear.
Shitty character/party customization.
There are no RPG mechanics outside of combat.
Combat is not that great either.
Shitty NPC interaction.
Some games require constant grinding.
Lots of turn-based games requiring player dexterity (WTF)
Uninteractive, uncoherent and boring gameworlds.
Cutscenes.
Minigames.
Animu.

Now change that to

"Why would a reasonable adult choose FF 8 over FO2?"

And it will be a real test of taste. I mean, FF8 is great and all but Fallout 2, man. Fallout 2!

My biggest gripe with JRPG's (hell most anime as well for that matter) stems from their writer's inability to express dialog in a concise manner. What could be expressed in two sentences the average video game designer will turn into an hour long diatribe that will make you want to stab yourself with a fork. I swear they must be paid per line or some shit.

Now I am not against verbosity in videogames if it has merit (here's looking at you torment) or at least dialog choices to break up the monotony instead of the atypical jrpg conversations overinflated with fluff and often circular and repetitive content.

The only reason I could see someone choosing FF8 over fallout 1 or 2 (besides being part of the herp-derp crowd) is they have played fallout so many times since its release that they could play the game in their head like most of the codex.

You can play both. Why play only one game when you can play more?

I like Final Fantastic Tactics (story was derp but not offensive).

I don't hate all Japanese anime either, liked Beserk, Ippo, most of Miyazakis stuff, Akira.

On the downside there seems to be stacks of emo trash, repetitive gameplay, derpy cinematic storyline, if I'm going to touch that crap I might as well be playing Mass Effect or Dragon age.

There is something disturbing to me about a dude that looks like a toddler swinging a giant sword, or a girl that looks like a toddler walking around with her panties showing beneath her mini skirt. Sexualized and violent toddlers. Just fuckin' weird, man. But yeah, Japan.

This might be the one thing preventing me from getting Fortune Summoners. I can deal with the obviously sexualized pre-school children. Come at me, lolis!

I never owned a console, and never paid for a game made for consoles. This doesn't mean I wouldn't look at quality console games on emulators. Especially when theirs PC ports are crap, or are console exclusives.

Or I can use some quotes from P3 FES, or Tales of Eternia. Actually look at ToE. Dark matter, talented scientist shooed by his university into observatory far away, also sky was falling. It had quite interesting, and unorthodox, story. Actually the beginning was interesting. He found an unconscious girl and dragged her away just before a massive explosion. Then there was that scene where village elder screamed about a hole in the wall, and what they did few years ago...

They invented whole ecosystem for ToE.

I don't think it's that bad in comparison to best western games. Actually only original version of Planet Alcatraz beats some of them in racism, grittiness, and fun. Lets face facts. Ending of DX:HR was quite bad. I never seen such boring ending in console RPGs (I finished).

The people discussing Fallout 2 like serious business in the west is the same kind of people discussing Final Fantasy 8 as serious business in Japan: The kids, the otakus, and the freaks. No "reasonable adult" would play either of those games, much less discuss them in the detail the geeks and nerds do.

I don't hate all of them but i hate the ones that does not know about world they make.

For example in valkyrie chronicles i don't want to see childish acts or stupid kindness against enemy soldiers after killing 100-200 of the same soldier,i don't want to see a mascot animals in a miltia regiment and i definetly don't want to see my soldier talking about making bread in the middle of the war.

Same for girls or little boys fightning with warhammers or long swords while making kyaa kyaa sounds.

That being said i don't have problems with games that accept these and try childish story,but i don't want to see these tropes in a game about rebellion,wasteland or army where you have to kill lots of people with cold blood everyday.
