Why do people watch only new movies?

British Tourist's Wife: Darling, tell him we'll pay for it.
British Tourist: We can pay for it, you know.
Ben Bowman: Get out of here. Either of you friggin' vampires ever touch this telescope, you're gonna need surgery to get it out of your ass!

Yes, I also really like that one, because Eastwood and Kennedy were genuinely climbing mountains. A camera man was even killed when they filmed in the Eiger Norwand.

Unfortunately I can find no single scene on youtube to show that great piece of (realistic) film making.

Besides, McQueen was also a real race driver, though he wrecked his cars often.

:bro: for mentioning The Lion In Winter. One of my favourite movies, infinitely quotable, everyone should see it.

Hey, Burning Bridges, you should try to watch more B&W films. There are magnificent films filmed in the 40s and 50s. Many of them make excellent use of the B&W medium and frankly they would loose much of the atmosphere in color. If you're worried about image quality, mostof them have gotten good dvd and even HD re-releases. There's a thread about the films of that era : http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/40s-and-50s-movies.54290/

And, despite that, there'll still be people like my grandmother that go 'Oh, but that's so old."

I think this is true. Unlike books and music, movies age less well.
Personally I find lots of newer movies uninteresting due to too much emphasis on CGI, and I prefer movies from about 1970 to 2005.
Movies become more like video games, video games become more like movies and I find myself reading more books than I've done the past 20 years...

I sometimes do, just not very systematically. I had a look at that thread and I already knew quite a few of the movies.

Ugh, there are loads of good movies still being produced nowadays, and frankly those are the ones I like to watch the most. Here are a few examples:

There will be blood's ending is one of the best endings I've seen in a looong time in a movie, amazing acting. Both movies are some of my favorites, and some of the best I've ever seen.

    Here's another good one:

Nobody should diss today's media/art, there are still great examples nowadays. Not to mention this puppy, who's class beats most of what you see on tv:

EDIT: Fucking [media] bullshit, why can't I embed all of my clips? :x

2005? I can't really place any great change to around that time. There's still some good movies coming out, even out of Hollywood. Not quite as much as even in the 90's, yeah probably, but on a quick glance early 2000's doesn't seem any worse than today.

What you say might be true for blockbuster action films, but movies with CGI are, still today, a minority I think - most movies just don't have anything they'd need big speshul effects for. Just avoid the Harry Potters, Transformers, Twilights, etc.
