Seriously though, I think it's a viable candidate. I can't find anything significant to fault; the game almost seems to be built with my, and perhaps even the Codex's conception of the perfect RPG in mind. The combat is not horrid like in Arcanum or a significant detractor from the text bits like Torment and C&C and character building feels more expansive than Fallout. The writing itself seems as competent as any game and more than enough to tie everything together as a compelling experience. The low fantasy, post-apoc pseudo-Roman setting seems ideal as well - allows lore as a gameplay mechanic, conducive to all sorts of depravity and political maneuverings, should allow sensible loot mechanics without ruling out the occasional warranted piece of epic shit. Of course the main strength I think is the choices, which to me felt like a natural and consequential component rather than a superfluous tacked on mechanic more so than any other game, above included.

He's right in a way, though. AoD seems like it should be the perfect Codexian RPG - on paper.

How can there be a perfect codexian RPG when we have threads of "what is an rpg" with so many different opinions all the time¿

TBH, i'd take an urban intrigue over "will thou kill the insert desired level scaled monsters rats in my barn, oh chosen one?!" any day.

Besides the obvious "lol, it's definetely not anything near perfect - a flawed gem tops" I was thinking of Surf Solar's point too.

Turn based combat, plenty of C&C, verisimilitude and good writing. Possibly rape but definitely tits. I was under the impression these were more or less universally accepted criteria.

I wasn't trying to suggest that the game is perfect either.

Good question. Hey guys, but seriously, what is an RPG? I'm sure we can reach a consensus this time, I'm feeling really optimistic!

Don't give up so easily, think big. Think "Fallanum Wizartima : temple of elemental torment".

Wait, this game actually exists? It's not just the Codex's favorite vaporware? Because I've been hearing this for years, and figured it was just the Codexian version of Duke Nukem Forever.

Of course, they actrually did finally bother to make it, and it turned out to suck, so if this is what happened, then it really is the Codexian DNF.

Well, I couldn't include every good RPG, the name is long enough as it is. I had to pick the best, and as much as I love the M&M series...

I guess it's better than Risen 2 so that has to account for something :troll:
