Call me a masochist. I kind of liked the game. It was VERY rough around the edges, but I could see the potential in there. Not an amazing RPG, but not 35% bad. I'd give it a 6.5. I'll have to reinstall it with the new patches.
More Impressions please.

They actually released another patch today that fixed fov. Anyway, when you ignore some strange design choices (i still didn't figure out how to open chests), Legends of Dawn is a good game. And I agree with the guy from their studio. Reviews have been pretty unfair to them. The game isn't THAT bad. I played much worse.

Ah, fuck it, I'll back this, it has intro video with a girl at multiple angles, and even wearing glasses at one point, how can I resist.

But seriously, backed it, it's not their first game, so I'm expecting it might be possibly decent.

one of the most prominent gaming websites in the world reviewed LoD as one of the worst titles in the history of the universe. What people don't know, is that before the review they asked us to pay for the banner, but we refused. It was a ridiculous price which we couldn't afford The rest is history.

Dorito a day keeps the bad reviews away.

Hi all. We've passed 50%, and we've upgraded Chest Unlock System.

LvRI8iG.jpg

Chests, boxes, crates and other objects that hold items that are locked can be unlocked using two methods.

The first method is using the Runes. So in order to unlock the locked object, you will have to use special Runes. These Runes are found in many places but cannot be bought. Using Runes you will be able to unlock chests (and other locked objects) and loot them. There are three sets of unlocking Runes, one set for each god. Locked chests usually have more items than regular itemholders, so it's a good idea not to throw Runes away.

The second method is using the keys. In order to see which key unlocks certain chest, it is shown in the middle unlocking field. When we drag and drop the key from the inventory to the unlocking field, the chest is unlocked. The key can't be reused anymore.

Hello y'all,

Well, Wave of Darkness is just 3 more days on Kickstarter, and conveniently we published a new update with some cool stuff you guys might be interested in.

Anyway, the update:

Wave of Darkness OST & Area Effectors

Area Effectors are entities that can affect area around them. We added them to simulate vapors, poisonous area, areas with extreme cold or heat etc. they greatly affect the way player approaches combat since some creatures reside in such areas. In the screenshot below you can see a plant that removes player disease resistance.

7e3c0163ddd8a8dc49ce4180421b52d7_original.jpg

The situation becomes worse when we know that the swamp is full of these plants, as well as Nekrachs who has a strong attack that produces disease damage. The best strategy is to avoid this plant.

Wave of Darkness official soundtrack

We are very passionate about the music we make for our games and soundtrack for the Legends of Dawn was received really well. Wave of Darkness soundtrack is continuation of the LoD soundtrack as is the Ancients the 3rd soundtrack. All three sprout from the same seed and are connected through melodies, style and instrument pallets. Wave of Darkness soundtrack, 2nd in series, is a part of all tiers from $30 up.

Some compositions from soundtrack album that you will get with corresponding rewards may in actual game be segmented, shortened and in other ways adapted to better fit different purposes of the game. Legends of Dawn backers of higher tiers who got physical CD soundtrack got deluxe version, expanded and all tracks connected into one gapless whole. They liked it. We plan to do the same for the WoD soundtrack.

In future updates we will feature Soundtrack „Ancients“ and Legends of Dawn Soundtrack „Thunders of Dawn“ which are part of all tiers from $50 and higher.

Also, a small plea

We sincerely ask each and every one of you to share our Kickstarter campaign everywhere you can and with anyone you know.

We also sincerely ask you to - if you are financially capable - to pledge and if you already pledged, to increase your pledges. As we proved with our previous successful campaign for Legends of Dawn, we fulfilled every reward.

Once again - huge, humongous thank you to each and every one of you.

Thank you for your support!

Hi all,

I have pretty good news regarding Wave of Darkness. With 26 hours to go and counting and 97% funded we are incredibly close, but... not there, yet.

I'm aware it's not always pretty to ask for assistance, but, even one pledge from you guys can really help, a lot.

We believe we offer really cool rewards in each reward tier, so I hope you guys will at least consider it.

Also, we published a "world flythrough" video with some gameplay, so check it out.

Thanks for your support.

Thanks. I believe WoD has pretty cool features that might intrigue many RPG fans out there.

Some of them:
  • Streaming technology enables playing without any loading screens. All data seamlessly loads in background;
  • Explore hundreds of unique locations (dungeons, forts, camps, cemeteries, docks, mountains, canyons, flying islands, swamps, temples, shrines etc.);
  • A complex crafting system with over 25.000 usable items, allows you to make everything from food, metal, wood, stone, leather to weapons and fashion armors;
  • Powerful spell creation system gives unlimited possibilities and easy use;
  • System of sacrifices: The 3 gods; Perun, Veles and Svarog each have their own shrines throughout the continent. Activating a shrine opens the sacrifice panel with options to sacrifice items and gain divine favors;
  • And much, much more.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Chest opening wankery is unwanted in ARPGs. Even the simple key/locked chest shit in diablo made me rage.

We worked on the chest opening mechanics. It was generally imagined as a mini-game, but we decided to "simplify" it a bit.

My problem is with the idea of having to run around for keys to open a chest. Just let me open the chest. People play ARPGs to kill shit. Any interlude from that should be brief, necessary and meaningful. Lockpicking minigames are even worse than key drops and both detract from the core gameplay. This is particularly true for an indie who should be spending every development dollar and minute making sure the core gameplay is as polished and fulfilling as possible.

edit: since you have a ton of key graphics maybe you could use them for end-game content (like the map room in torchlight 2, only instead of maps you gather keys to open dimension doors or something)

Thanks for your insight. The game will go to Early Access, so a lot of stuff may still change. We'll see how will people react to each gameplay element.

You guys should've had a $40 tier of some sort, way I see it is most people will stop at $30, and, if they'd feel like upgrading, next tier is $50, which's a fairly big jump.

Anyway, glad this gets funded, you guys are getting my money too.

I am not much convinced by the 25 000 items stuff. At some point, numbers get so high it only confuse.

PS: They reached their funding goal, with still 13 hours to go.

Wasn't Legends of Dawn that game that overheated people's GPUs?
