Meh. Most of the people voting have donated. A few haven't but their votes are spread around all the options.

Shouldn't the title say "What to do if we raise more than $10k?" I am confused.
Well, there's the issue as to whether we pick "the party option" or not. But I'll let this sit for a few days and see what everyone else says.

Okay, then it should say "What to do if we raise $10k or more?" :P As it is, people might think they're voting on what to do with the money past the $5 threshold when in fact it's all about the $10k threshold.

Whatever, though.

Tangentially related question: do you guys get a good cut from the Cafe Press merchandise or do they screw you on that? If I bought a $25 t-shirt how much of that winds up in the Codex's hands?

All out on the Party option - but provide a MAX of $3,000 on travel expenses.

[Beyond $12k] - All funds raised above $12k should go directly to the Codex! Shit's getting slow.

For 12K Codex sends an ambassador with 2K travel expenses (max 3K if he is really fucked up) and the rest should go to the servers. The party guy should of course provide the prestigious magazin some insights in his escapades with drugs and trannies the meeting with inXile (and charles is there, too I heard) . How's that?

Confusing poll is confusing.

Anyway, I don't mind spending a few more bux on sending someone who deserves (i.e. not you, you douche) it to the party, assuming that they also go through the tranny escort path for the maximum lulz impact.

After $10K though, I don't really think Wasteland needs more of our monies (plx donate to my Kickstarter instead). Better use it on the server upgrade so we can survive the extra traffic that comes from the all the positive press well get once we send DU to the party with the trannies.

This actually looks pretty decent. And it seems they ship worldwide. Will probably buy this soon. What is the Codex' cut in terms of profits for merchandise sales?

Two to five bucks in most instances IIRC.

I think attending the party would be a good idea if somebody were to be close there.
As much as I like the idea of having a Codexer *inside* a party such as this, I suppose is fair to say that bettering the server would be a good idea.
I'm only concerned about riding-the-hype method, I don't really like those kind of things, although I do understand that this kickstarter project has somewhat shook the Codex from torpor so the momentum wouldn;t go to waste.

I support the capping 10.000 k drive and anything else would either go to the server or as base funds to support other projects like this, should the possibility arise.
I don't think having two statues would be in any way good for the Codex. We are already in and Fargo seems like he is very supportive of our presence inside the game.

There's no reason to be ashamed of using this fundraiser to benefit the Codex. Kickstarter take a cut off of each pledge, don't they? Server upgrade ftw.

Max $1000 on travel expenses seems fair. I do think the party is a great idea if we can pull it off.

Voted, I'm glad that most here see the urge to upgrayedd the Codex, I would like to hear more about the Amazon Cloud option, is it on a VPS or do you need to buy new hardware either way ? Are hosting costs manageable for the coming 5 years ?

As to the party, this is a great opportunity for those that are interested in the industry and I'm sure that there are some here that would love the opportunity to go. We will have 10k, why forfeit this option for some second statue ? Does not seem pro(s)per. But paying for travel expenses seems too much of a good thing, also I do not think that the party option should be restricted to the Codex staff, especially if there is no one on it that would like to actually go and pay for travel.

Beyond 12k should at least partly go towards Codex but I hope this does not rub people the wrong way that already donated.

Anyway, donating 10$ today, after already donating to Kickstarter for my boxed set. Hence, will not require a digital copy. (But the whole digital copy thing should be sorted afterwards, either way I am fairly positive that everyone will eventually be able to have a copy)

Second statue is just a joke, or trolling. Just so everyone is clear.
You get one statue for 5K and thats it. For 10K you get a shrine.
It isnt clear can you get a statue and a shrine together, let alone two statues which would be so extremely silly it cant be properly described.

There is no denying that you guys have been upfront with the whole deal so far. And if there is no further complaints by people who actually donated the money then its all clear.

Stellar move to let the whole forum vote on the money that isnt theirs, though. And answering "meh" at that issue.
Simply... stellar, old chaps.

I 've got a few questions

1 Wasn't the point of the whole Codex 2.0 upgrade to decrease the server load and avoid upgrades for a significant amount of time?didn't that help as much as was expected or did the influx of new users ate that up in a couple of months?

2 How much do you esxpect these 2k upgrades to last? How many users will we be able to handle if the current configuration seems to have problems handling above 700

3 Were are all the new unwashed masses coming from? The BSN after the late shitstorm?

I dunno, it seems like devs are making interesting games again or something.

Well, I think there are two aspects here:
1) if we hit $10k, who goes to the party?
2) what do we do with anything over the $10k threshold?

1) I think that the Codex shouldn't waste money on travel expenses, because anything spent on travel expenses could be used either for upgrading the server or starting a fund for other worthy future projects (on Kickstarter). That means that we sould either delegate a Codex staff member living in California or one that that could cover his/her travel expenses to California (I think Jaesun was living in Cali, so he may be an option) or ask MCA if he wants to become the RPG Codex official representative to the party. If none of that works, we may try negociating for getting those extra digital copies instead of the party invite.
2) First and foremost, we should get the server upgrade. If there's anything left after the upgrade, we should create some kind of fund (Kickstarter fund) for other worthy projects. For example, The Banner Saga Kickstarter just started, Obsidian may start their own Kickstarter project during the next couple of years etc. If we'll want to contribute to these projects too, it would be nice to not have to start from scratch every time.

MCA is there anyway I believe (he spent 10k?). And if we make a lottery or something poor people couldn't afford the travel expenses especially if the person isn't :patriot:. I'm for providing the person with travel money to give equal chances. But another thing we should keep in mind is the language. Someone who can't speak english very well is at an disadvantage to enjoy the meeting as much as a fluent speaker. I wouldn't make the trip and would give another one the chance because my english is rather poor.

Previous reward + COME TO AN EXCLUSIVE PRIVATE PARTY hosted by Brian Fargo, Alan Pavlish and other key members of the Wasteland team (must be able to travel to Newport Beach, CA). Talk design, previous works or anything else you’d like to discuss.
Why the fuck would we pay to go to a press event? Plus, I'm in California (was just in Newport a few days ago) so if there's some urgent need to send someone to meet InExile later on I probably would be able to do it, no jewgold required.

baby arm is going to the party.

We'll end this at $10k.

We've reached (beyond) what we were aiming for. $10k is the maximum reward and it's only appropriate that the Codex proudly proclaim that we bought one of the largest packages available after raising the money in as little as a week.

I will consider starting a new fund for $2,500 for the Banner Saga (Codex Viking GOD - let us spread our name far and wide and into as many orifices of the internet world as possible!)

We will have a specific drive for Codex Server Upgrades at some later date.

To answer someone's question earlier, we get like $3 bucks from the merchandise (which is why all the prices are so expensive otherwise it's not worth it).

:bro:

I also approve of the CODEX VIKING GOD in The Banner Saga. I already donated $250 to them, but speading the Codexinan word as much as possible is worth another fundrasing effort.

Cant have a man doin` all that mingling and old school brofisting and interviews thirsty... why he is likely to collapse even before he scores something.
