Well, yes and no. We're not investors, but he did promise that he would listen to what the fans have to say on many issues and that nothing was set in stone. People donated with that in mind. If he ignored the people crying the loudest, then he would effectively be breaking his word, if nothing else. And I, for one, do think he'll listen. Probably in terms of a compromise, but that's bad enough I'd say.

You are wrong because many people who had pledged don't want him to implement those fans suggestions, why would they opinion be more important then opinions of others who had pledged? This could only be the case if there would be a really significant % among people who had pledged for some particular derp but that is doubtful.
That's kinda the point though. The only way he knows not to implement all that shit is if we speak against it, i.e. speak louder than the other side.

honestly I think the best thing to do would be to reply to other, actually decent ideas or make your own thread and take screen space away

anything except give these people the encouragement of thinking they're fighting for some kind of cause here instead of diluting a product with manipulative fan service of zero gameplay worth

engaging them however cordially makes them think they're fighting the good fight with their posts so to speak

build a relationship with that character

I have a dream that someday rpg gamers will treat characters as a force for impacting the gameworld instead of someone to print on their bolster covers and write in their diaries about

hut, hut, hut, hut!

I mean, of course we wont just sit back and we will smack down most of them but... bumping up good threads will work as well as tearing down bad ones.
And its weird but we are actually within majority there.... its totally surreal!

Still I make a "turn based combat" thread and where is it? Fucking 4 answers and one from someone who has lost it somewhere on the way. Gone from the whole first page in mechanics.
Fuck "my" thread but... dang it.

A simple official announcement saying that all romances are off will get rid of most of the stupidity in a short timeframe.

If the nouveau inclusive LGBT-content requirement crowd complains after that we can simply say straight people aren't complaining about that now so why should you be treated different and be entitled to crossdressing options and the cosmetic conversation option to lightly run your character's hands through your husband's soft downy backhair and nom his head

if not stringing these people out could work for the project funding sure but if some kind of bandwagon effect happens and they rally from pretty much all the stupid fucking game forum communities that I need not mention against the hateful nonprogressiveness of 'gamers who are ironically stuck in the past as well' oh boy well not so good times I tell you

then again I'm a pessimist and these are the early days where you get the most people thinking they can influence a game's direction so in the words of some fat man let vigilance be your watchword

Yeah, I think Fargo made it quite clear that the game will have TB combat.

dammit... why does it always have to be me who must mention AoD around here?

Are you guys not aware how IT handled this issue? I can understand some of you are worried or frightened that suddenly Fargo will do a crazy turn and start fulfilling every deranged request out there but that doenst mean thats the actual truth.
Youre fucking getting boring with that shit.

it is very possible to have interaction with "fans" and still lead the game where you want it too for christ sake...

Dudebro. Calm the feck down.

TBH, if it'd be handled the way FNV handled it, I wouldn't mind that much, and plus it would be like throwing them a bone so they can finally shut the fuck up about it

YEAH? precisely my good man, precisely.

What kind of turn based? Thats crucial.
Or are you just satisfied with any at all?

And if you want to answer that go into that thread and bump it up! Dont do it here where it doesnt matter and then waste time bumping up gay romance thread over there.

This would actually be a bad idea. Take Ass Erect as an example. A vocal minority of faggots got the devs to make their (admittedly crap) game into a queer eye for the interspecies transvestite happy groupsex time. Now, emboldened by their success, they're trying to push for an even more prominent presence everywhere.

This is an idea that needs to be shot down. It must be shot down early; it must be shot down hard. If it gains traction here, they'll just establish an even stronger precedence, and all of a sudden we'll have transsexual flight sims, where we need to make sure to eat our hormone suppressors as part of the checklist. We will have homosexual zombie shooters, in which hordes of undead monsters wish to devour our dongs. We'll have war on terrorism RTS games in which our squads only lose morale if the token bisexual marine dies.

They like shagging weird shit. Fine. Good for them. I hope it brings them hours upon hours of entertainment in the privacy of their own home. I don't throw my desire for vagina in their face, they should have the decency not to throw their desire for cock in mine.

What they want is not characters who happen to desire to stick their genitals into unusual orifices. They desire spotlight on characters WHOSE MAIN DEFINING CHARACTERISTIC is what they sleep with. This has no place in my RPG. Take it to the hentai rape-novels where the shit is appropriate and leave wasteland to focus on post-nuclear survival.

I still can't believe how fucking ridiculous this is. A new Wasteland game. A new turn based, top down/isometric RPG no less. And half the discussion is about romances and gays. What must Fargo be thinking now? How fucking disappointed is he?

And yet you seem the only one whose arsehole is clenched so tight the turds are coming out your mouth. Nobody here is actually losing their shit, we're just in a stir. And rightfully so.

That's what you get when a generation of gamers grew up knowing no RPGs other than what bioware spews out.

Tim Cain is gay, and he never let it get in the way of his game-making or used his games to start preaching LGBT equality to us. Just focused on making great games. Why can't the gay community be more like him and not let their gender preference dictate their entire character?
You're forgetting the gay marriage in ToEE. I was also disappointed in the complete lack of gay male dialogue lines in the first Fallout and Arcanum considering there are lesbian options in both. If you're going to include flirtatious dialogue/sexable characters, you might as well include them for everybody. The reaction doesn't have to be positive.

No, half the discussion *here* is about romances and gays, for some reason of another. There's two threads about it on the official forum, which are mostly being kept afloat by angry Codexers.

If you would just shut the hell about about it, it would go away and people could move on to discussing actual relevant things like game mechanics, setting, etc.

sgc_meltdown: Nice to see you back bro, your pics were always disturbingly hilarious when I used to lurk here (before I registered an account).

Also, let the :x flow through you:

I'd really appreciate and love to see such diversity (People of color, LGBTQ, more women that aren't [dead] girlfriends or damsels). It is something sorely lacking within our games industry. Sure, we can point to recent games -- mostly BioWare -- that includes non-hetero characters and romances, but out of the hundreds of games that get made per year, a handful of titles in the last several years is not that diverse at all.

As a roleplayer, I prefer to have options. The more options there are to facilitate choice in who my hero/heroine is, and the world they live in, the better. There is nothing more disappointing in this current gaming landscape than to continue seeing straight white brunette playboys as main characters, or defaults, that continue their male gaze power fantasies. And only those points of view. Or a world that lacks diversity in race, sexuality, gender (in positions of power and class and roles and with actual clothes/armor on), and yet houses a cast of half a dozen or more straight white men.

"But that's how they're written. That is who they are." Or, "That is how the world IS (usually in defense of European medieval fantasy games)." No. It's really not. It is up to the WRITERS. They create the theme, the characters, the world. It doesn't magically appear out of thin air; they create it. And inclusivity is a very easy thing to enrich a setting, because not every person playing games is a straight white dude, or wants to play as a straight white dude. Garrus would still be Garrus if he were gay, Alistair would still be Alistair if he were bi, Samus would still be Samus if she were lesbian, and so on. Besides, sexuality is not so fundamental to a character that it somehow changes everything about a person's character and characterization. I like games where I'm given choices and diversity, it's the kind of world I live in.
