Game News Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Released on GOG

Bloodlines' Steam numbers may have been hurt by Activision's tendency not to discount their games frequently. And Square Enix have the opposite tendency.

Hasn't Bloodlines been on sale a few times? I certainty wouldn't have bought it on Steam unless it was heavily discounted (I own a retail copy from way back when).

It's often 75% off on Steam.

I can remember only a handful of times where Bloodlines has been discounted on recent years. Often it wasn't even discounted during Activision sales or even Summer/Winter sales. Actually, I bought the game a year or two ago because it was the first time I actually saw it discounted.
The thing about licenses and property is another discussion though. Instead of complaining about gays maybe people should complain about basic property and work rights for game devs hmmmm?

Maybe Troika made some missteps, but you're exaggerating. Bloodlines was plagued by the ins-and-outs of the Source engine development. You can find the specifics on Wikipedia and other sources, but there was a point about halfway through development when details of the engine were leaked to the public that led to Valve doing some crazy refactoring for security reasons. That would have been a clusterfuck for any studio.

What the fuck? You're saying Valve literally rewrote the engine because they were afraid people might know part of how it worked before release? That's literally full retard development if true.

Source?

I think that's about HL2 getting leaked. Troika had to work with a prototype of Source, and it's quite different from the "official" release. One problem was its rushed production and the other this half finished engine they were forced to use. This is why Bloodlines doesn't have too many mods even when it has a rather loyal fanbase.

Maybe, if the rainbow colored brigade of gaming journalism was interested in actual activism and challenging the establishment instead of generating clicks and circle jerking. It's about maintaining the appearance and wholy embracing current social fads rather than doing anything actually relevant.

Does the unofficial patch add the shit-tier, removed for a reason quests? Or am I thinking of another patch/mod?

We use Wesp's Unofficial Patch 9.5 but only the basic no-content added version.

Yes, this is the UK version with the cut beheading, we'll see what we can do about getting the uncensored one out whenever we can but I have no ETA at all on that part.

Yes, about the whole debate whether the game is censored or not, there seems to be a lot of discussion about this and my personal conclusion is that the game may not be necessarily censored but it may also be exhibiting a legacy bug somewhere. Not saying it's censored but I am not declaring it uncensored but you do have to admit that there is no 100% adamant proof that the game IS censored...

The alleged censorship affects only the beheading or other stuff as well? Because in Hollywood you visit porn stores and topless bars...

Nah it's only the beheading. I remember the controversy from back in the day when the game was released because living in Germany I was always very sensitive to stuff like that.
The thing is, nobody knows for sure that the scene is actually censored, some claim that the full beheading was just a timing glitch and that, also in the US version, the camera was supposed to move just before you actually see the sword going through the sire's neck.

Anyway we're talking about a split second here and it's really a minor detail. Apart from that, there has never been any censorship in the game, no matter which country version.

Yeah, seems a bit ridiculous to think of censorship with the level of content Bloodlines has, so I'm inclined to believe in the glitch theory. However, people at the GOG forums are getting increasingly touchy about censorship, especially after the stuff with Hatred and Huniepop.

I still think this might be a glitch. I mean, you have blood everywhere (including it as a game mechanic) and a woman strutting around in lingerie right in the intro. It seems so fucking bizarre they would pick one scene and leave everything else intact.
But hey, it's the UK after all.

It might be they cut the beheading animations due to some very specific law or previous case that was raging in the UK at the time. So no beheadings, much like child killings in many countries.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here, it could be a bug to do with the PAL version or something.

Even if it is, it's nothing to lose your head over.

Where are you heading with that statement?

How stable is the game anyway? Are there still game-breaking bugs in it? Haven't played it in ages...

A handful of graphical glitches and a few missing textures if you look hard.

Doors are still fucking retarded and you need to wait a few seconds while they open lest you get stuck inside them. Sometimes you'll get stuck outside the game world after feeding or w/e, just go to the console and noclip a few feet back to solid ground. You also sometimes get stuck on physics objects because lol source engine.

Haven't had any crashes or anything that broke quests with the unofficial patch.
