In October Vampire: the Masquerade was trademarked for computer games by White Wolf, now owned by Paradox and located in Sweden. About a week ago Vampire Bloodlines met the same fate!

Vampire Bloodlines has never been previously trademarked.

In other news: White Wolf has also trademarked MIND'S EYE THEATRE for "role-playing games; models for use with role-playing games; trading cards (card game); board games"

Isn't this just the usual thing companies do and not necessarily indicative that they're working on anything?
Also, I thought Activision had the rights to VtM:B?

Perhaps they own the rights to distribute the game still, but now Paradox can sue anyone who makes a game called Line of Blood.
Which is funny because there was one Castlevania Bloodlines for Sega and it was damn good.

I would be angry if the new Vampire game turns out to be Bloodlines 2 though. DON'T TOUCH IT. Or it was "open it"? :P
I'd be more than happy to pay full price for a new Vampire crpg, but Bloodlines is too precious for me.

Interesting. But like people have said, in this case, it's hard to tell if it means they actually intend to make something, or if they're simply grabbing the trademark "just in case".

Ummmm, if you'd look and see how Pdox games are going you'd have mixed feelings at best.

I'm hopeful, I can fully see this being a disaster, but prove me wrong, Pdox

Well, if Paradox forces a CURRENT YEAR approach to Vampire, you can't blame them. The pnp game has always been like that, and Bloodlines has been its best interpretation when it comes to roleplaying.

    You are.

Awesome news! Contrary to many Codexers I would love to see Bloodlines 2, I'm pretty sure that with Leo Boyarsky and Tim Cain at the helm (if they would be given that chance of course) a worthy successor could be made. And Bloodlines ending has left some hints that this wasn't the last time we heard about Ankaran Sarcophagus. Beckett said that if the sarcophagus is opened there will be a disaster and I doubt that a bomb was the cause of this. And with what dr Johansen said about Lamaste and Messerach a possibility that the mummy we saw was fake still remains (for example the vampire could have taken over Jack's body). There's also a possibility to make a sequel not related to Ankaran sarcophagus but focused on our character after he dealt with La Croix or just entirely new game with some characters reappearing (or not).

A trademark have to be used within 5 years usually... but I don't think there is anything stopping Paradox from registering it again, aside the loss of lawyer's money. So a very good indication that they are heavily thinking of doing Bloodlines 2 (but that was fairly obvious by now...).

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Bloodlines is one of those rare storyfag games that (like PST or MotB) has no room for a direct sequel. Not only would it inevitably shit on one aspect or another of its predecessor, but there's simply nothing of value that it could add.

Paradox could still make a totally kickass VTM RPG set in modern day; hell, even one emphasizing the same themes of paranoia, impotence, and obsolescence, but a direct sequel to Bloodlines? No thanks. Give me something new.

They could make a shopping game. Dress up as a vampire and walk around the mall.

Hopefully they'll be completely creatively bankrupt and do a faithful remake and unfucking of the game, but i don't hold out hope.

At least it's not likely to be a MMO again... right?

    Interesting... /Bertram voice

If they do make a sequel, I hope it won't be a remake, as that cannot help but disappoint.

There's a lot of mileage to be had in a WoD game set in the current day somewhere without having to recycle the tropes of Bloodlines. Stockholm in mid-winter? Not much risk of sunlight there at least...

If they'll make a sequel or at least a decent remake, I may move to Sweden and give them my tax money.

Is it really though? I never thought of Bloodlines as a storyfag game. It has pretty good dialogue writing (reinforced by those Source facial animations), but as far as plotlines, storylines, questlines go, I don't recall anything nearly on the PST/MotB level.

Personally, I think there are a LOT of things a Bloodlines sequel could achieve. I've enjoyed parts of the original game, but felt it was very flawed. If they could take the good aspects (the uber-cool and original - for RPGs - setting, the various playable clans and the robust skill/stat/ability system), and then improve everything else. Doesn't have to be open-world or anything, but surely they can expand the cramped tiny levels of the original where you ran into a loading screen every 10 steps. License and use a more mature game engine than Source before Valve's own games got released, make better animations that would make melee combat less of an eye-sore. Improve combat in general. Add a Thief-like stealth system for the Nosferatu or sneakier characters. Write a better main story than Bloodlines, I felt like with the wealth of vampire lore available, that game's plot was a snooze-fest. So, yeah, there is a lot of stuff that could be done.

The chance to get this was missed once CCP sold White Wolf to Paradox. Who better to implement that than a company whose main game let you dress up and walk around a space station.

Swedish vampires? I don't see it. Maybe during Viking days.

If it's set in the current year hopefully there'll be an option to massacre the local Starbucks and gorge on hipster blood.

Paradox is the fucking worst when it comes to ruining games with DLC milking. I'm not going to give them money no matter what game they release.

Maybe not a direct sequel but a game set in same universe with similar gameplay but different story and characters.
