I'm not an expert on the early Ultimas, but what I could find said to "Cast Y (up) here."

Welcome to the RPG Codex and it's awesome that your first post deals with my favorite CRPG of the 1980s, though I played it on an Atari 130 XE. I looked at my copy of "Shay Addams' Official Book of Ultima", which covers Ultima I through VI, and I just realized how horrible of a book it is with a lack of solid spoilers. The section on Deceit in Ultima IV merits a small paragraph, and it says nothing of any tricks to leave a room. Further, I searched website for hints and found this which states that Deceit should be an easy and straightforward dungeon: http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/Dungeon_Solution_for_Ultima_IV

I am unsure whether or not you found a glitch in the Apple version, but if you did I am also unsure how you can proceed.

I played Ultima IV on the Apple II when it came out.

If you could put the image on imgur instead of tinypic I may be able to help you - I can't see the image on tinypic and, frankly, am not about to try and figure out which scripts to enable to allow me to see it.

An alternative is if you could explain the problem? Oh, wait, enter the dungeon.. do you know the.. not password but the proper.. mantra was it?

Simply just enter the dungeon of Deceit, When I walk into a '' room '' for example http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/U4-Deceit-L2-Room-1, instead of finding enemies, I find that black screen with waves.

Mantra Does not have to use it in the Shrine after getting the blue stone?

If I need to use a password, i don't know how to use it

and I haven't even spoken to Lord British yet.

I'm not sure I can help with anything specific to the Apple version, my version of choice has been PC for decades now.

Is this happening with every room you enter in Deceit?

To me this looks like some kind of graphic/data corruption. Either the disk is corrupted, or the game is reading the data from the wrong disk. I know there were many tricks one could do on the Apple with the early Ultimas, by having the wrong disk inserted. You mention the disk isn't broken; are you playing from a physical disk, from an image you created yourself, or one you downloaded?

That is a corrupted file, no doubt about it. No such room exists in UIV. Thankfully, by the look of it, you are just starting the game. Redownload a new game file from elsewhere (if possible) and try that.

If that doesn't work, the cloud has a silver lining; you can get winvice and play the C64 version. You can thank me after you start playing it.

Hail, fellow noscript user. Tinypic is surprisingly straightforward in this regard: you only need to enable permission for tinypic.com, the rest is ads, social media and similar clutter that can safely be ignored.

I really like the Apple music for U4, I must say. If your emulator supports the Mockingboard, be sure to play it with music on.

Glad it's working now, have fun with the game.

Yeah, I was just doing a random youtube search and the Apple music for it (even though still quite primitive) it actually pretty cool, compared to the C64 music. The tones on the Apple are much cleaner and nicer.

I dont see him mentioning that anywhere? and he talk about DOWNLOADING a Disk 3, maybe he have a transfer system setup to get the file on a 5,25 disk, what do i know. *shrugs*
Oh... okay. I just used the GOG version. One day I hope to buy a working Apple ][e, but the only problem is, when I actually have enough money I probably won't be able to buy one that still works.

Huh, prices have risen since i bought my Apple IIe, i got that for 1500 SEK in total (175 USD + shipping for, i dunno, 40 USD? it was when the dollar was at its lowest point some years ago) so if these wont do (remember you get to skip on shipping prices) maybe go around fleamarkets or simply ask around on craigslist might help.

I always found the Apple II music to be 'whimpy' compared to the SID music, and this being the case even with a mockingboard addon card that cost the same as a new C64. Without the mockingboard, it doesn't bear thinking of.
