We got used to people making fantastic claims about projects, which they could never finish. But among different ways how to cop-out eventually, I think this one is new:

http://ufotts.ninex.info/
It took me some time to write this news. Unfortunetly we are bringing UFO:TTS downloads down and stoping the development. It’s not because we don’t have the time, or that we got bored. Reason is simpler – legality issues. When we started the project we weren’t as concerned about this as we are now. We believed that if we are doing everything from zero and doing it for free – we are doing it legally. Turns out its more complicated than that. All the material that we studied on the internet points towards a simple fact that even things like ‘look and feel’ of any game can be considered intelectual property of their authors. As to the future of the game and the site… it remains open for discussion. The site will most likely remain operative. As to the game itself – we don’t know yet.

"It’s not because we don’t have the time, or that we got bored." Seriously!

Of course immediate action had to be taken, and all downloads were taken down.

That's why nowadays every game is original, has a completely different gameplay and style.

:insert screenshots from several nextgen FPS games here:

Also, fixed.

coincidentally, the explanation is in their previous newspost:

As we mentioned already in other news, we are developing another game at the same time, using different engine.
P.S: which will also never come out of course. See you again in 3 years when we make the announcement.

So what's the other game all about? Doesn't seem to be any info on it.

Would have been even more telling if they just brought up three screenshots from the same enviroment to make them look exactly the same. Shouldn't be hard.

A picture can say a thousand words, but those pictures just show that blood effects and a particular weapon are common to first person shooters. You may as well indict RPGs for featuring the strength attribute and chainmail.

Unoriginality must be distinguished against the common features that make something a familiar genre and setting. And simply preferring games that break boundaries and feature unfamiliar settings does not qualify as criticism of unoriginality.
