Every time I see this thread bumped, I hope the Soul Hackers translation is finally done. Every time, I am disappointed.

I bet my ass that Gemini and Tom are working their tits off to bring another wapanese masterpiece to glorious english-speaking crowd.

Knowing them, this masterpiece is Rhapsody 2.

Does the existence of guns make the game as retarded as you'd expect it to?

Also, is the interface bearable? I really hate navigating millions of menus and stat screens without a mouse.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet had the time to give the game a go, and I probably won't in the nearest future. Damn workload. And from the looks of it, spekkio-kun didn't manage to get very far into the game.

Judging from what I've read about ST:A, though, the consensus is that guns are implemented fairly well. The difficulty is supposed to be lower than in the original Shadow Tower, but the exploration and atmosphere, i.e., what made the original Shadow Tower so fucking brilliant, are supposed to have been made even better and more varied -- now you crawl through poisonous swamp pits, scenic areas, and other kind of thingies.

Damn, I want to play this game so much. :( Shadow Tower is probably in my top 5 RPGs, and this one looks like a blast as well.

Sistah, do you think Shadow Tower (1) would be a good mindfuckery tool to recover from a horrible, horrible day at work?
I mean like, pop a vein in my head or something?

Dunno, it's a very individual thing, really. The game's slow and surreal, so if that's your kind of thing, then yes, for sure.

Amaterasu Translations has finished translation on "Forest".

It is... well... I haven't yet made up my mind on it.

GETCHU said:
"I am Alice. Do let me hear a story."

Here and there - in the space between buildings, in back alleys, perhaps even in the underground - the Forest bleeds into our world. The Forest is a forbidden place where the rules of our world do not apply.

Our heroes must struggle against the Forest, without so much as the hope of assistance or understanding from the outside world.

They do battle against the "riddles" the Forest imposes upon them with the aid of superhuman abilities known as "gifts."

And should they know defeat in their battle against the Forest, they will face that which they fear most - expulsion from Shinjuku.

Sounds like bizarro wapanese Changeling: The Lost (The Hedge being the Forest and Arcadia).

By the remakers of Recettear and Chantelise, "Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone" is out. Get it on Steam/release source/wherever.
Demo.

I'm curious about that one because if I'm not mistaken it is from another company than Recettear and Chantelise, but I guess that there must be a reason why Carpe Fulgur decided to pick that project up.

I'm in love with this game already!

It's basically a 2D action RPG/platformer hybrid that has you play a sword-wielding little girl. There are even combos of a sort, if only a limited amount of them. From what I've gathered, I'll get to use magic too as soon as I lay my hands on an elemental stone. The controls are a bit clunky, but not too much, or maybe I'm just not used to them yet.

I recommend everyone gives the demo a try, at least. :P

Ugh, this vile skeleton bastard was giving me one hell of a trouble... Killed off my sis... He's just so fast.

I did manage to bring him down though. But of course!

With that, I've beaten the demo. Looks like I'll have to buy the full game now! :P So much fun.

Heh, didn't even try the demo and decided to buy it out of trust. Carpe Fulgur had the good idea to bring Recettear and Chantelise, which are two good games, so I just trust that if they go out of their way to get the rights of FS, translate it and then publish it, there is a reason. By the way, the developper for Fortune Summoners is Lizsoft, not Easy Game Station — makes of Recettear and Chantelise.

Aroduc has finished translating... something.

For the third patch, you will have to defeat me in mortal combat to obtain it. It probably actually patches something. Maybe even something posted here! Although fair warning, it’ll only work if you’re completely installed and up to date, which may also be a challenge in and of itself given the internet as it has been recently.

It may also contain cats.

So what I’m going to do is… in about 20 minutes, I’ll be going out to dinner with friends at Outback where I’ll endure a greasy Bloomin’ Onion for a passable French dip Freedom dip and drinks. Then I shall come home an hour or two later, and… should you be clever enough to find me wherever I’m lurking on IRC for the rest of the evening, and be stout enough of heart to defeat me at MBAACC, there will be a patch for an unspecified game in it for you. And possibly pictures of cats. Be warned, I know at least three combos and can block 100% of the time when I see an attack coming. Also, I play on a wireless laptop, so you know it’s going to be an upper echelon affair. Priority will be given to whoever my herd of helpers (or anybody who somehow got an op) decide that they like the most. Sucking up and bribing is not only allowed, but encouraged.

Patch 1 - cats.
Patch 2 - inverted cats and thesis.
For Patch 3 you'd have to beat him up online, and he would post it on Monday anyway.

Actual game review from Aroduc
Some short read:

...
In the alchemist city of Yuidora, Wilfred manages to pass his final exam and open a workshop of his own. Soon after, a mysterious foreign swordswoman from a foreign land appears at his door and demands that he reforge and restore the magic in her sword. With the means unknown to any in the city and the cost prohibitive, he strikes a deal with the girl, Yuela, that she’ll be his escort when he goes out to collect materials and he’ll find a way to reforge her sword. Wil soon also befriends Emiritta, an energetic mage, and Selawi, a hippie elf, as well as any number of elemental spirits that all join his workshop, and also encounters a mysterious reaper that has both a connection to his parents’ death as well as Yuela.
If the above setup reminded you of one of Gust’s Atelier games, then you’re not far off, particularly Atelier Iris 3, right down to playing Pretty Princess Dressup. Kamidori is Eushully’s latest game and the spiritual successor to Himegari, but contains a much stronger focus on item creation and a much weaker focus on the protagonist raping everything with four or fewer legs, which was not exactly an appealing part of Himegari for me. On the other hand, if not for all the elementals pinning Wil down to… uh… deepen the bond between spirits and humans… I would be questioning his interest in females at all. He does seem to have an apparently insatiable urge to knit frilly dresses...
Install three patches correctly and fully to the game original, then install the patch.
