A couple of Torchlight 2 hands-on previews hit the web, let's see how Runic's upcoming Diablo clone compares to the mega-selling Diablo 3.

The Controller Online noted that Runic 2 didn't dumb anything down.
Gaming Illustrated think that Torchlight 2 improves on its predecessor in several ways.
Neoseeker believe that the game could use a bit more variety.
Gamer's Association apparently found their dream-game. It's perfect!

:hmmm: Wow, those are pretty positive. That's like...3.5 out of 4 positive reviews? Good enough for at least 85/100 metacritic, IMO.

Previews are usually positive anyway. It's the reviews that count (or don't depending on your opinion of the "gaming press").

And it doesn't matter how good the game is, it's still going to get a lower score than Diablo 3, because that's how games journalism works.

Precisely. That's how it went exactly went for Duke Nukem Forever, to mention a recent example. The demo preview showed it exactly as the mundane (albeit fun, in my opinion) shooter it would turn out to be, but somehow the entire press
acted outraged and surprised when it came out. So much for previews. And their usefulness.

Well, I'm assuming they all just got Beta access along with everyone else which includes the entire first act. Not like the game is going to change radically past that.
