I had 9 Int + 7 Cha and it isn't enough for Faelen.

Considering the maximum total points is 20 if you put 10 both in Int/Cha and 9 + 7 = 16, man that check must be REALLY high.

I just ate shrooms.

It's not like even 3 or 5 guys with daggers are unkillable for any half decent combat char.

As a Jew I just jedi tricked "this is not the gold you're searching for" assasin leader to kill the Rasputin for me. I wish there were more times in this game you could make somebody kill someone for you. More often it's you who's on the receiving end.

The dialog adventure for infiltrating Daratan palace compound with thief skills felt a tad too long for a single dialog sequence and it offers no way to back off. All paths leading to an audience with Antidas felt forced. I understand the alternative routes are designed as a way to get to Antidas without bothering with Dellar's crap, but it shouldn't be inconceivable that a thief would want to infiltrate the compound for reasons other than meeting Antidas.

So in my thief playthrough, I went in with the expectation that I could steal phat lewt from a noble house and sneak out. Nope. I ended up testing every single route in the thing, only to find out everything railroads you towards the throne room. That was the only real moment of frustation I've had with AoD so far.

After sneaking through the compound as a thief, I gotta say it's a shame it can't be explored more openly with shorter dialog choices here and there. Squeezing such a huge area into one huge dialog tree doesn't do it justice.

I'm pretty sure you can get to Antidas' vault if you have some skill in traps and high perception. Also, you get free gold and centurion armor + helmet if you got thieving skills and open the chest in the barracks.

One thing already bothering me when trying to roll a Thief is that without stat/social skills synergy, by trying to create a physically fit burglar with some of my own meta knowledge to boot (STR to get bag out of the well (treasures!), DEX to climb stuff, CON to swim...) any Thief would end up with more combat skills than Thief skills. You pump DEX and instead of Steal growing you get more Spears... unlike say good 'ol D&D 3 where DEX was added to these sort of skills.

Separate skill pools and +combat points for kills is genius (Sawyer cries), but it continues to bother me that pumping something like DEX does nothing to Steal/Lockpick/Traps etc. Even Fallout 1 did that.

I think Charisma must be the most glaring of the designed stats involving stat/skill synergy.

As far as I can tell, "Reaction Bonus" is a complete lie and never used for anything.

And then the game is completely inconsistent on what points it uses Charisma or not - sometimes you can use it to essentially act as Skill Levels for Persuasion/Streetwise and other times it's completely on Skill level and even a 4 Charisma character can pass the checks if they invested enough.

I hope eventually Tower replaces all checks with universal Stat + Skill design (or Stat + Skill 1 + Skill 2).

Thief has awesome way of dealing with raiders in Teron I gotta say. First time playing the game (and that's 4th playthrough for me) I actually felt I had my organization to back me up and someone doing actual favor for me.

My Thief stats after finishing guild quest by siding with Glabrio:

oXeYoNj.jpg

Did't bother with pointless loot since did not engage in any fights through game at all. That meant I was somewhat forced to join Glabrio though even if I could probably pump something like Alchemy and poison/bomb him.

What surprised me was how Critical Strike 6 solved last Maadoran quest in 2 clicks and also paired with high DEX+PER allowed me to text-quest Faelen to death. Not very Thief-like.

In D&D dungeon I disarmed some traps, jumped over garbage and then jumped over pit.

Overall I'd say Teron was the best for Thief in all respects, Maadoran ok-turning-strange and Ganezzar just meh.

There's also a lot of other things this character can do in the game: Loremaster (hybrid) thread

Btw the most useless skill in AoD for Thief is Steal :prosper:

I'm basically DOA right here. There's a few things I might be able to do and get a few more SP but its looking bleak.
Apparently the jump check is a whopping 10 DEX, I of course have 9 :negative:.

My lockpick, which was basically totally unnecessary in Maadoran is like level 5.

So I'm not quite done yet, but I just decided to eat it and spend the throw skills since there weren't enough SPs to go around to get my lockpick high enough.

Seems to have worked out though.

My Thief stats after finishing guild quest by siding with Glabrio:

I sided with Levir, but also did some combat. Got up to the Triarii in the Arena, not sure if it's worth spending some extra SP to use and try and finish it.

Only thing I regret a little is using SP on Persuasion / Streetwise earlier.

Did you do anything with the abyss?

During alternative playthrough where I betrayed guild for Gaelius I finished all these sort of locations. Not sure why you'd want them as a straight bro-thief tho. It's like spend lots SP to get less SP.

I also replayed thief-bro by siding with Levir, using Alchemy to kill everybody (Glabrio and his goons) including 2-3 droids in Hellgate.

Well I guess you can invest in it if you really want to especially if you avoid combat. With decent stats you don't really need that high skills for guild quest. And Lockpicking can be increased to 6 to explore well in Maadoran. So Lockpick 6, Sneak 6, Traps 6, CS 6, Streetwise and Trading 5, don't forget Climbing Claws, and Steal probably can even be ignored, maybe.
Then you could pump Lore to like 10 with all the SP you get.

Wow, what do I have to do in Ganezzar castle?

I killed Scolopendra, took the key from dead guard, got to the fork with two "magic" halls. The right one contains a door I can't lockpick (I believe I have lockpics=7). The left one has a trap insta-killing me:lol:
I have a more combat-oriented build with 10 crossbow.

Are there any other options?

Finally got around to finishing the game as a thief and I found Ganezzar thief related content to be pretty underwhelming, hopefully they expand it in future updates.

Glabrio seems like a dumbfuck, fortunately even as a thief with zero combat skills (aside from CS) I had no problem betraying him as he loses the fight without me lifting a finger, I just sat in the corner and watched the show (I wager if I had nets I could have made the outcome a no-brainer but why bother).

:retarded:

I have traps=1.

It's okay, hope you have 9 in lockpick lulz.

BTW. How come you have 1 in Traps, doesn't the guy that escorts you to the tunnels train you in traps (if you ask him for help)?

Edit: Actually nevermind, even with 8 (not 9, my mistake) lockpick there's still a trap ahead.

Ah. Well then grind lockpicks then.

Surprised they still didn't work more on D&D dungeon.

Oh, yeah, the dude trained me, but still my Traps are far from 6.

I have 7 lockpicks.

And the number of available side-quests are limited. I have the arena and Ganezzar Elias resque quest.

I don't think there are that many reasons in the game for now to pump Lockpicks above 4, even when playing a Thief.

4 is the magic number for Steal, Lockpick and maybe even Sneak. There are of course two Lockpick 6's, from memory:

Amaranthus extract strongbox & Hellgate door to Temple

I played TG after the update. In Gannezar you will need either traps 5 or lockpick 7 to complete the last mission. Also, traps gives you an extra option during the fight vs the boatmen in Maadoran.

Will the checks be the same if I started the playthrough
before the patch?
