I haven't tried but thanks for reminding as I do want to give it a try. In theory it should work for the whole game, right?

Yes, it should. There shouldn't be any issues, but no one has said that they have finished either game with the automap mod.

octavius should play through W6 and W7 since the last game in the series he talked about playing recently was W5. Maybe the Grimoire save game compatible super demo will be out by the time he finishes this series play through.

By seeing this thread cloudy memories of a Wizardry MMO appear in my head. Anyone tried it? Does it have anything to do with wizardry gameplay or is it just another off-the-shelf asian mmo grinder?

Wizardry 6 is awesome <3 I hate the level up system for it, just wish someone could do a port of Wizardry 6 into the Wizardry 7 engine.

You can probably show this post and tell them to click on the bottom two pics to see if they will allow really bad pixel breasts of the pc version that has the best text. Unless really strict, it shouldn't be a big deal. It's not in a sexual context.

The Super Famicon and Saturn version of W6 have bras if you cannot be allowed to play a game with some opponents having horrible . There is a translation patch for the Super Famicon that was mostly completed. That version has its own map and has decent controls. There is a gargoyle(?) without a bra but can't really make out a nipple. I wonder how it got tan lines.

I tried it and it was horrible. It got shut down after a year of service already since it was a pure pay 2 win fest. Also it had nothing to do with Wizardry - ok, you mostly ran around in dungeons but those were boring, empty and grindy.

W7 has skills separated into groups and each has their own pool of points. I think I read that W6 has required skill gains for each class that use up points unless maxed out. I don't know about W7.

Huh? Wiz 6 was superior, since you could assign the skill points how you liked. In Wiz 7 the skills points pool was divided into several categories and you had to spend points on Weapon skills instead of the much more important Magic skills. And gaining magic skills so slowly made it all the more tempting to abuse the class changing system to get more skill points.

You know is HAS been a while since I have played VI/VII and I may be remembering incorrectly. I still remember liking something in VII's system better though.

I'll let you know when I do my all Mook runthrough of VI/VII/8.... :M

My Pure casters in Wizardry 7 ended up gaining roughly 6-8 academia points per level up. There really is no need to exploit the multiclassing system in Wiz 7.

Hybrids like the Ninja though got them really slowly 2-3 per level up, made even worse by the kirijutsu skill.

The nice thing about the Wiz 7 skill point system is that some classes fare better in certain skills than others. A fighter will never be as academically inclined as a mage, a bishop will not learn weapon proficiencies as fast as a ninja.

Wouldn't that take, oh, 400 hours?
Not if you know the games, and where to go and how to solve the puzzles.

Well, I had mostly prestige classes transfered from Wiz 6, so I guess that's why I struggled somewhat. Getting Poisoned and Diseased was maddening when my guys gained so little magic skills, so I had to revert some of them back to base classes.

It's interesting to see how party balance shifted between the games. W6 was actually closer to the W8 concept of using specialist characters with few class changes, but W7 was all about (ab)using the class changes to build strong caster-fighter hybrids that could also hide in combat... even the spellcasters would benefit from switching to an appropriate hybrid fighter class to gain some toughness and melee ability. In fact, I don't think it's possible to beat all of the Gorrors without having ninjutsu on almost everyone, esp. the casters!

aside: I found some of my old save backup floppy disks from 1996, and I was amazed to find my very first party that finished Wiz7 in one of the backups (mook sam, felpurr monk, faerie ninja, elf valk, gnome priest, elf mage... yea, they only managed to kill the easier gorrors). I transferred them to W8 and they seem to be doing ok, though the raw damage potential is way down compared to some of my more optimized teams (ie. any party with a fighter or rogue in it).

:negative: thanks for info.

Anyways, does someone know what DW Bradley has been up to the last years?
Somebody told him already about this new Kickstarter thingy everyone's talking about? And that oldschool RPGs are flavor of the month atm?

I wish someone remade the 6-7-8 in a modern engine with overall art direction closer to 7 and improved content density in the final part, but with all the mechanical improvements from 8 (including free movement and formations), party banter and then some.

Call it Wizardry Trilogy or something.

I think such a product would do very well actually. It would also be released 10 years before Grimliar if started right now.

That would be a day 1 purchase until you find out that while they added the free movement and formations, they also added full healing/magic/stamina after each battle, quest compass, no penalties on death, redesigned spell system so that there are no more spell ranks and the only useful spells are healing spells and your favorite AoE nuke, real time combat, console UI, reworked ruleset for those 9999 hits, dialogue wheel and fixed protagonist voiced by Nolan North whose surname will always be Shepard (I know that Shepard was not voiced by Nolan North, but still).

Edit: Oh and they also removed all classes save for fighter, thief and bishops (renamed to wizards).

My point is, as much as I would love to see these games remade. Between the necrophilia against the series commited by the japanese

gnomes.jpg

and general butchery of the RPG genre by western AAA mainstream made for console devs, I fear that a remake would only add more salt to the wound. Maybe the best thing to do would be to let this series rest in peace.

Returned to Arnika road as full lvl 7 party (with Wheel key), was attacked by 17 higardi (75-80 hp each).

So if you unlucky road can be tough if you grind to lvl 7 in monastery (why would you, without grind you get around lvl 5 maybe lvl 6 max).

Also how hard is Expert mode, who tried it?

(i dont want to abuse skill/spell training by repeatedly charming NPCs/using knock-knock etc).

Just posting how awesome, cool and fun this game is.

Will probably replay with different parties and personalities several times more.
