Does this mean Cyberpunk 2077 will be released in 2016 (if we are lucky)?
It will be never released IF WE ARE LUCKY.

I played TW1 a long time ago, so I don't remember if the writing was better or worse then -- but TW2's writing was really bad IMO, *especially* the dialogues. In fact, it was so bad that it was the main reason I put the game down in chapter 2. The style was really... disjointed, switching between super-srs-bsns cliche-medieval English and modern English seemingly every second sentence. Also, something about the dialogue gave off a "non-native English speaker trying too hard" vibe.

Maybe it's a translation thing, though.

Seriously, wtf? Are you sure you don't have the two games mixed up? Witcher 2's writing is top notch.

Thou hath summoned me, oh powerfule Rabbi? Allow thine humble servant to shame Zetor with Ye Olde Btucherede Englishe.

And yeah, pretty much: seriously, wtf? I don't recall making a disjointed translation. Regional differences should be noticeable, as should those between characters from different social classes, but that's all.

I'm pretty sure I don't have them mixed up. TW2 dialogues tried to be hammy using lots of 'faux medieval' words (the VAs were pretty much chewing scenery all the time... that's not a problem by itself, btw), only to ruin the (exaggerated) mood by using modern colloqualisms in the next sentence. To me, that's a LOT worse than the consistently mediocre writing of TW1. Could be one of them 'opinion' things, I guess. ;)

But, like I said, I only played up to the second chapter; quit shortly after starting the storyline from the war camp. Also, I didn't really have a problem with the story / plot, it was almost purely the writing in the dialogues. Well okay, the fact that the combat system was terrible was probably a bigger reason why I stopped playing. And yea, I don't have any specific quotes on hand because it's been over two and a half years...

edit: Ah, I see, Storyfag was one of the translators? Well, I don't mean to rip on you personally or anything, but like I said, the dialogue had a definite "non-native English speaker trying too hard" vibe to it. Not every word has to be a brobdingnagian and/or sesquipedalian monstrosity! Anyway, there are many opinions, but this one is mine. And I stand by it. [insert random rpgcodex image macro here]

TW1 had some of the most hilariously poorly translated lines, "our babe sorceress", and tons of dialog that didn't flow from one line to the next. Like full stops, or grunts right in the middle of paragraphs.

I could overlook most of that stuff, but the NPC animations in dialog were insufferable.

They fixed a lot of the weirdness in the Enhanced Edition. I don't remember 'babe sorceress', was it one of the other Witchers who said that?

I actually find the animations to be not bad compared to the animations of, say, Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

TW2 had an interesting plot. But, as I said, I found the gameplay so lacking I couldn't push myself to continue.

Are you kidding?

I don't remember Desu Ex being THAT bad. There's this one animation in particular that Kalkstein does all the time, where he looks up at the ceiling and stretches his neck to grotesque proportions in the middle of conversation for no reason whatsoever - in the EE as well since I never played the non-EE version.

Yes, the oldest one, Vesemir. Although that was most definitely a translation snafu as "Dziecinko" - depending on the context - may translate to either "Babe/Baby"(attractive woman) or "Child" (a young person). I don't understand why they decided for the former when it seemed to me the latter was closer to the correct meaning.

Actually that's the style taken directly from original books.

Sapkowski likes to talk in interviews about staff of fantasy magazines from times when he was an unknown, inexperienced debutant. How big assholes they were and how they kicked his puppy. That's because editors really didn't like his style in published stories. The dictionary was changed to either completely archaic or completely modern.

But let's be honest. It's doubtful the translation team had enough brain cells to replicate this trait properly in international version.

I don't remember anything weird from TW2 dialogues.
As for TW1, I simply can't forget the line "abso-fucking-loutely beautiful"

I played it with KB&M and it worked fine - it's possible that it might be better with a controller, but it's definitely not a gamepad-only game like, say, Dark Souls.

Actually I'd say it's better with M&K. I tried playing with my emulator-controller when the game first came out, I found the mouse to be better.

Well, since they came clean about the bad deal they got with the console version, its become pretty clear that they used that garbage to hastily put together W2 - all with the cutup areas and QTEs and other console mechanics.

What is important now is that they are trying to make up for it. At least thats how it seems from info released so far.
Naturally, execution may turn out to be less then great in various parts of the game or its mechanics, but that we will get to see once it is released.

Even so, it will definitely be a better game then w2.

The Witcher has always been an overrated action RPG with floaty combat, reasonably pretty graphics, and not a whole lot of substance. It's just a coincidence that its only major competitor is BioWare, who took it upon themselves to drop the publishing of RPGs. It honestly makes these games look too good in comparison, because they're really kind of flat.

I mean, I've played TW/TW2 and I didn't regret my purchase but I never played them more than once. They aren't classics or marvels of design. They're average games you play once for the story and slog through the gameplay just to reach the end, not out of any true enjoyment for it.

I just hope the emphasis on sexxing Trist (or other characters in general) is dropped in the third game. I mean the first game was nearly a glorified porn trading card game and with how much more tasteful TW2 was I was kind of hoping TW3 would have some class. BioWare appears to degenerate with every release so I hope my faith isn't misplaced, but who am I kidding? Sex sells and CD Projekt isn't above money, as clearly shown by their recent GOG changes.

I would not hold out on 'de-consolization' if anything they're buying time to polish the console versions more because everyone knows that's how developers pave the way to success. DA:O was complpete and ready for its PC release but BioWare delayed making money on it for a whole year so they could do a simultaneous console/PC release. I'm willing to bet more of the same is happening here.

Im afraid that sex cards were much more tasteful then the 3D porn simulation of W2.

The first game was a very nice first time RPG, from a new studio - that left plenty of directions on how to improve that formula. Unfortunately, W2 went the other way and ended up as a mutilated console version ported to PC.
The delay now will most likely be spent on polishing both the PC and console versions. If they are separate i couldnt care less. Paving way to success? By console versions? :snort: yeah sure, - after the experience with W2, sure.

whats a bio...ware? I have no idea who you are talking abut. One of the EA branches?
DA:O was nothing but a console game ported to PC. Visible from miles away.
