If you are on linux, the number of games on sale on the front store page changes to only have linux game (I would assume the same for OSX too).

Well, on the upside, it's only the Thanksgiving sale. If similar numbers can be pulled during the Christmas sale, well then...

Introducing Steam Broadcasting

Starting today you can watch your friends’ games with the click of a button via Steam Broadcasting, now available in beta. When you see a friend in game, simply click on "Watch Game" from their profile or from the Steam Client Friend's List to open a window into their gameplay -- no game ownership, special fees, or additional apps required.

The beta is open to everyone on Steam who wants to participate by opting in to the Steam Client beta through the Steam Settings panel. For the time being, concurrent viewing may be limited as the beta is scaled up to support the broader audience.

As always, we want your feedback and ideas on how to make this feature better. Make sure to check out the Steam Broadcast discussions and FAQ, and let us know what you think!

http://steamcommunity.com/updates/broadcasting

See public broadcasts here: http://steamcommunity.com/?subsection=broadcasts

And sure there are anime and porn broadcasts.

Now this is lulzy. A new Team Fortress 2 update is out, the aptly-named "End of the Line" update, so named because over a year ago some guy started work on a Source Filmmaker short about a runaway train starring everyone's favourite band of idiotic mercs.

Seems that Valve picked up the update and flaunted it as a "community" update.

What the update was supposed to include:

# The SFM short.
# A new map based on the short, Snowplow.
# New weapons, based on the short.
# New winter-themed cosmetic items.

What the update actually included:

# The SFM short, which features NO VOICE ACTING.
# No new map, as it was pulled at the last second because Valve deemed it "too confusing for new players". (Read: Not a corridor with big-ass direction signs.)
# Only one new weapon, which is a reskin of the stock melee weapon.
# New winter-themed cosmetic items with new Unusual effects.
# A new taunt, only available in the Mann.Co Store.
# The Duck game, an event where players collect ducks to power up the "Duck Journal", an item that stores your duck-collecting amount, levels up and places you on some leaderboard. The Duck Journal is MANDATORY for the event, and it's 'only' $4.99 at the Mann.Co Store.

In short, TF2 players got completely screwed. The only surprise is a Pay2Win non-event. The forums were burning with rage last I checked, with some delicious tears being shed by many TF2 "veterans".

This seems to be the "End of the Line". For TF2, that is. If anyone reading this has anything of value in their TF2 backpack, I suggest you look into cashing out and unloading those valuables before the game goes under.

Here's the video for those who are interested:

I wonder how long it'll take before the SFM pornomancers use that Little Timmy in their animations...

And as a consequence:

Enjoy moving to another country and finding out your already bought and activated games don't work...

You bought in a "Region", you can only play it in that "Region".

Moving? Tough luck...
Wrong. The restrictions currently in place on all games are gift/trading restriction, not full region restriction (as in, a completely different package version for certain regions). As long as you get them activated, they will run no matter where you go.

A ton of games are gift/trade restricted, but almost none are fully region-restricted (and those that are are very clearly tagged). Even those though, I've moved between Kwa, Yurop, various parts of East Asia, and never once has this been an issue.

I would assume so. The lock is intended to prevent trading. I doubt they'd make it so draconian to cater to some niche workaround where a dude would move to Russia, buy all his games cheap, then move back to America or wherever they were from.

(one of the regions that is being region locked with this move)
ffs NOTHING is being region locked with this move, only gift/trade locked. Not a single game. Read my post again.

The only games you could possibly have a problem with (though I haven't, so honestly I doubt it) are ones that were fully region-locked already, which was something decided by the publisher on release. There are very few of those since most publishers realize that's a retarded move, and that has not changed. The only thing that has changed is that new purchases in certain regions cannot be traded or gifted to a different region, and this has nothing whatsoever to do with playing games already in your account.

Steam forums are full of morons who don't understand the difference between the two kinds of locking, but don't realise their lack of comprehension and are spreading false information in a panic. News articles written in unclear language by game journalist manboons aren't helping either.

TL;DR: This change doesn't make anything that would work before not work if you move. The only things that won't work after a move now are the things that wouldn't work before either.

Region lock tag was added to a fuck tons of games quietly yesterday. And yes, they zapped Southeast Asia and South America too. One only has to load up steamdb and spend 2 seconds to verify this. Or you can just read random shitty indie devs tweet:

TL;DR: Christmas is dead

EDIT: And yes, I realize you're addressing his issue about not being able to play previously purchased games but this was another opportunity to cry about having good things yanked from my grasp.

Don't be silly Destroid. If you're buying a steam gift to someone in thirdworldia, you still have to pay Tier 1 Jewroes pricing.

Wow. Just wow.

I get a notification that TF2 has updated, I read the patchnotes and get a wall of test detailing changes that seem to try to balance out the Demoman class in its entirety, plus some other stuff.

On a whim, I go check out the Steam forums and find a sizable chunk of forum threads that all sound the same:

Alright, Valve, I'll give you a reprieve for now.

Starting with calling you VALVe again.

I said some nasty stuff about what happened in EotL, but the Smissmas Update this year turns out to have a good amount of content in it, so EotL being so anemic doesn't seem too bad for the moment.

I'm not gonna pull a "sorry I ever doubted you" because I'm not that fickle; I'm still a little reproachful about the way EotL was handled and your general lack of activity/communication, but for now, thanks for the sizable update. I'm eager to try out that Mannpower mode tomorrow; it seems like a lot of fun.

And besides, it's Christmas. 'Tis the season to get off each other's backs, and whatnot.

I want to formally apologize to Valve, since even though I never publicly complained about them, I still had a suspicion in the back of my mind that they'd given up on TF2. Thanks for proving me wrong.

VALVE MERRY ME

*sigh*

This is why the online Valve games have gone down the shiitter. Because they have an above average track recording in the quality of their catalog, and built the Steam platform, people are willing to forgive them anything.

Maybe that's why Valve claims that it's focusing on multiplayer games from now on; so that they can troll their customers to kingdom come and STILL keep receiveing praise, worship and acclaim like they're the Second Coming.

I play TF2 a fair bit but I still have no idea what you're going on about. Any relation to the rubber ducks that flood the maps these days?

You seemed to have missed the rage when the EOTL update came out, which amounted to nothing more than a cashgrab attempt from Valve.

Valve is grabbing for cash all the time, what was so special about this time that made people rage instead of ignore it?
